  • Commercial Fishing in the Gulf of Maine.
    Though still imagery has always been my focus, I have taken videos whilst out to sea. This is some that I have taken over the years. Although I have 10s of thousands of photos, I wish I had taken more videos...

      I’m trying to say the people in Government think we only take with no regard for the sea life around us. They forget the precautions such as whale safe lines . And the fact we allow observers to monitor fisheries from our boats. Then u got liberal radicals who wanna take us out the ocean totally. So an act like that portrays a certain regard for other life and nature. Not just a tangled turtle .

    When it's too rough on the water you're jeopardizing lives by still fishing in those conditions

    • @13WhistlingPigs

      We're all fully aware of the risk. In fact, most of us know men who have died doing this very job. But I suppose that's what separates different types of men. There are those who are willing to risk everything in order to provide for their families, and there are ones who feel the need to state the obvious in the comment section...

    Great video! Thanks for sharing.
    I’m curious, Why do they make you set out like that? I’m sure you guys know what you’re doing, just seems like their are easier and safer ways

    • @13WhistlingPigs

      Because it's a fleet fishery, and contrary to what you may think, most of the captians, especially the one who made us go out in that shit, are insecure children who would much rather make the boys go out in that kind of weather and risk their lives, just so the other fleet captains would know that he was working when they weren't.
      So yes I agree, there are most definitely easier and safer ways.
      But then again, safe fishing makes for boring video...

    Nice vid! What depths are you fishing at? Cause in Sweden we usually never fish lobsters on depths deeper than 30m and mostly on rocky bottoms but isn't it mostly flat trawling grounds out in the open sea?

      Rivers in Maine get over 30 to 40 fathoms. 70 meters or so. The coast off Maine is completely irregular. Jagged cracks, drop offs, gravel banks, mud. Furthest I've ever fished for lobsters was close to 2,000 feet 600+ meters dropping off the continental shelf. We found them deeper occasionally when crab fishing, but the traps weren't set up for lobsters to get in easily.

    • @13WhistlingPigs
      @13WhistlingPigs  2 роки тому +1

      The pay all depends on the boat that you're on. Some boats do better than others. Not sure what you mean by "benefits". Do you mean as a whole what are the benefits? Or do you mean insurance type benefits?

    • @ryanm5555
      @ryanm5555 2 роки тому

      @@13WhistlingPigs Yeah im talking a bout insurace type,i would assume not but I dony know, and thanks for the response. and if you dont mind me asking what was the pay like on you boat per trip, and I know they had problems with drugs in the past is it still the same?

    • @13WhistlingPigs
      @13WhistlingPigs  2 роки тому

      So, we aren't employees, we're subcontractors. Because of that, there are no benefits.
