This was absolutely sublime man, thank you so much to both of you for sharing. (The intro was indeed Bad Ass). Really cool to hear about Jake's early influences too, he actually reminded me of French Fred and how I was obsessed with his stuff when I was in my early teens cus of how different it felt to any of the other skate videos haha!
Super useful to hear about the benefits he found in taking his time with the project and where it lead in the end too. Slow and steady!
Looking forward greatly to a lil run down from you on your upcoming exhibition at some point in the future ;)

Thanks, Will. Always appreciate your thoughts.
Exhibition video should be fun. I’m getting the prints today actually. Hoping they turn out great 🙏🏻

INSPIRATIONAL. Jake is very able to talk about his process. His description of the elements of a book - type, paper, loose pages, paired with the photographic is a joy to listen to. Thank you for sharing!

I was literally just thinking that I hope you make another one of these portrait of a photobook videos - doubtlessly some of the finest photography content on UA-cam.

Thanks, dude. Hope to make many more in the future. I would love for it to be a thing where it could coincide with the release of some books to get even more eyes on the work.

Man! You’re killing it with these. So inspiring. These always make me get up, grab my camera, and walk outside.

Porridge, coffee and a Bryan vid on a Sunday morning. The ritual complete. Thanks again Brian (and Jake, excellent work!).

I love the effort and detail that goes into videos where you’re shining a light on someone else’s work as if it were your own. That’s the kind of love for photography we should all carry! Great video mate!

The Skateboarding->Photography pipeline is such an interesting one that I wasn't really aware of until learning more about contemporary American photographers (I'm based in the UK so this is all stuff I've had to actively read about). It sort of seems like an arbitrary convergeance of different cultural threads that has produced somthing extremely fertile. I'd love to read more about it.
Thank you for continuing to make these high qualirty videos. I'm so pleased we have a seam of photographers who use youtube but fart in the face of the algorithm. Focus on quality and everything else will follow (eventually (I hope)).

      Algorithms can get lost.
The skateboarding thing is real. I didn’t even skateboard but the way that most videos were made (in an artful way) pushed me into picking up a video camera that eventually led to picking up a photo camera. I’ve seen that so much with people. Skateboarding is an art itself but combine that with the laid back personality of most skateboarders and you have a recipe for creativity.

Love seeing these videos! Exploring photo books and new practitioners is always so fascinating to me. Hope there’s more to come in the future :) also congrats on the solo exhibition.

Yeah I’m not sure who has any over in Europe. I’m sure you could reach out to Jake on instagram and he could hook you up with something with a shipping charge. I know it gets pricey though!

You had me at “bad ass intro”

    • @BryanBirks
      @BryanBirks  12 днів тому +2

That intro song got my video demonetized even though I got the song through MusicBed. Reason number 17 why MusicBed sucks. Currently in escrow now. I really need the $32 dollars I’m going to get in ad revenue 😂
Edit: They already reviewed it, and they're saying the song is stolen. Reason 18 why MusicBed sucks.
