I had a 200 cc Zundapp Bella. What a great scooter. Well balanced, low centre of gravity, gets off the mark like a rocked and I could ride from Sydney to Bathurst and half way back on one tank of petrol. The electrics where called 'elastics' in Australia. The later versions had a 'double battery box under the dash board, and the 'boot was just for tools.60, 65 mph ??? With the starting jet out, I could get to 80mph!! and I don't give a stuff if you don't believe it. I wish I still had it.

When I was in high school back in the 60s a friend had a Bella and I rode it a few times. It was definitely a step up (to me) from the contemporary Vespa and Lambretta scooters, although I've always been a Lambretta fan. With the 200cc 2 stroke engine it would hit 70 mph pretty easily, if the speedo was to be believed. We had a BSA/BMW/Royal Enfield/Zundapp dealership locally, and two of my friends rode Zundapp Super Sabers too. The good old days.

I miss my old girl ,we had it for years and all my kids squeezed into the bambini sidecar that was fitted to it and Mrs on pillion .I had a small collection of various makes but Gerty was the favourite .I eventually sold the rest but kept her for old times sake but she was used often pottering about when the car wasn't needed. One year i tried to find new piston rings ( the late 70's were not the easiest times to find spares once you bought all the local stock at the bike shops! Easy now online!) Anyway i couldnt find the 2mm? Ones only 2.5 so took the step of getting the slots lathed out ,seemed fine for 6 months then bang bike stopped . On getting it home by local farmers trailer i found a hole in the crown of the piston i presume clamping it in the lathe weakened it? Anyway nothing available anywhere so it was retired . Then i moved and reluctantly sold it 😢 worst thing i ever did she was part of the family !Now i am retired how it would be to relive my youth and do one up to potter about on but my basic rate pension wont stretch to another so i will have to just relish old times instead ,i still have her key😢

I borrowed my brother in law's Zundapp Bella R 200 in Sheffield, 1965, just before I went to Germany. I was impressed with it's 200cc engine up hill pulling power.

I have a Bella in the 60's.Dont know what happened to it. I wish I still had it Wonderful bike. The only thing is that the Exhaust pipe use to rust out quickly. Twice a year. Not fast but built like a tank.

I had a R200cc Zundapp Bell, what a great scooter. It would leave a 179 Holden for dead off the lights and stay in the lead to 50 mph (80kph). If I opened the start jet I could get it up to 80 mph (115 kph). The scooter has a very low centre of gravity and was brilliant cornering in the city and on twister country roads but it’s not all that brilliant at 50mph. I MISS the little blue streak, it was lightening blue

I really enjoyed this video. In 1965, a guy living next door to my friend had one of these, it was finished in matt battleship grey. I thought it was the ugliest bike I had ever seen. Seeing your bikes beautifully restored in lovely colours shows just how good they look. They seem handle nicely too. Let us know how that re-build goes and enjoy!
