The devil makes many appearances although out Scottish folklore, mostly the dark prince appears to trick the simple or seduce the greedy. He has been known to appear on Scottish soil many times, whether it be hunting a promised soul, dancing and feasting with his followers or granting power to a devoted individual. The history of this land is overflowing with witches, warlocks and wizards, who could count on the devil and his wicked influence, but it is uncommon for these great practitioners of occult and esoteric knowledge to meet and it is only, rare occasions such as this that they did. The devils payment.

I recall exploring the ruin of Ardvreck Castle - a very lonely, magical, evocative place. I wish I'd heard this story beforehand, but it was in the 1970s - before your time, by my reckoning.
yeah, that is before my time, yet Ardvreck is still beautiful.
The lesson was for him and he fell short. He would not have understood if someone else paid the price, these are great teaching stories.
Isn't that what Christ did though? Take the blood price on humanity's behalf? You think a Catholic would know that.
A lesson to be learned, for sure. Gossip is an evil all its own, especially when you spread rumours you know aren't true to hurt others.
loved it thank you for keeping the past alive and amazing story
Love these stories
the old woman was full of ill will, it tells of how things are, thanks for the stories
Another of your wonderful tales of Scotland
What a great story! Thank you. This was a very thought-provoking video on many levels, and a cautionary tale.
Your accent and cadence brings back comforting and mysterious stories my grandmother would tell me as a boy in the early 60's from our home in Boston, Scottish/Irish heritage, some of it I couldn't understand but it was hypnotic. Thank you for the ride back in time.
Thanks for watching
Keep up the good work : I’m still listening. JaneR
For a moment there I thought there was goin' to be a twist involving the orphan. Perhaps it was just because she was baptized but still can't help but wonder. 🦇
she's another story....but who will tell it?
Why is it always wizards that put the devil in his place, never priests?
Always be nice to people...of all ages....E...
Great story. Thank you
What an amazing story, thank you for all you do!
That is a lovely tale, though bit hard on the poor wife who did nothing wrong. Sigh.
Beautiful story; thank you 😊
loved it thank you for keeping the past alive. I wonder what deity what the shadow was originally?
That was a ridiculous thing of the younger brother to do. He not only proved to his family that he was black magician but also inadvertently killed his nephew. I'm surprised he wasn't accused of witchcraft or sorcerery and burned at the stake. It's always women it seems who were bore the brunt of the accusations of witchcraft during the middle ages early 16th century. Never the men, who by all accounts and historical records, were just as skilled or proficient in magic as there female counterparts.
gossip, back-biting, and malicious lies are what creates and drives madness
Wonderful telling and story.... But i can't help but wonder what happened to the orphan? Thank you for telling this. 😊😊
Another wonderful tale. I am just wondering what happened to the orphan girl. According to the story the Devil said he dared not touch her. Makes you wonder what was with that.
Did the poor wife have any more children?
I am not sure, honestly. the sources didn't mention much after the child was taken. thanks for watching
I've always wanted to take a vacation to Scotland and Ireland to see the country of my ancestors.
I might have been because the servant girl meant nothing to them.
fan of primus by any chance?
hahaha, Yes, I wondered if anyone would notice that haha😆
@@LiathWolf hahahaha, excellent, i just immediately found myself going "TOMMY THE CAT IS MY NAME... and i say unto thee..."
Don't they know less is Morgoth
What happened to the orphan girl when the castle burnt down?
Is there a story of a fae getting a mortal woman pregnant?
Yes, quite a few. If you look at old tales of the Kelpie, you will find that near all of the creatures apperances are as an attractive young man that would enrapture woman with his presence. This would often end with a pregnant mortal and a half fae child (Urisk, Glastig, etc) hope that helps, Thanks for watching
@@LiathWolf Yes it does thankyou.
