Having worked at KPMG, Sharan decided to quit during the lockdown and focus for a few months on his content creation. Reaching 10,000 followers due to one viral video, Sharan looks back at his journey and tells us how he wouldn’t have left his job at KPMG had it not been for COVID-19.
As he shares, he knew he was due for a promotion, only everything was halted due to the lockdown. As it turns out, during this time, Sharan got headhunted by PwC and finally has been accepted into Columbia Business School this August.
Sharan shares how working on content is not really easy and creators have to find their niche by differentiating themselves and offering value to the community to stand out. He shares how he needed to keep reinventing himself until he found a formula that worked on his social media channels.
The journey from following trends to becoming the trendsetter depends on the format of one’s content and how it is presented. Finally, Sharan touches upon how it’s necessary to be extremely diligent when working on financial content, as he is responsible for helping people with their money.
Sharan shares how he struggled as a content creator and how it’s not easy to earn through social media. He tells us how, with 10K followers you might earn up to 30-40K per year, but if you have 100K followers, you can earn upwards of 30 lakhs and if you have a million followers you can even earn up to or more than a crore!
Touching upon his insight on content creation, skill sets one must have to stand out, even in the job market, and more, this conversation is a candid treat that’ll make you think.
Some highlights:
→US clients consider consultants as their partners, whereas Indian clients consider consultants as a vendor.
→Content creators package existing information about finance (or their niche) in a format that is easy to understand for the average person.
→More than the information you are sharing, (as a creator) you need to finetune your delivery method which is unique to you.
→The genesis of a content idea, which comes to most content creators (in finance), comes from reputed newspaper publications.
→Some people say don’t read the comments section; I read every single one of them.
→Sometimes you may spend 100 hours on an idea and it doesn’t turn out to be feasible so you reject it.
→When someone attacks you online, try responding with love, or don’t indulge in mindless chat fights.

Something many fail to mention or realise is the time bandwidth an influencer has to work in. There’s always going to be a next “in” thing pushing one out. Tread carefully and think for yourself, don’t JUST be influenced.

Columbia is one of the most expensive colleges in US. More than Instagram, one must have funds, which I guess he does. Doing education abroad is always better.

dude they are need-based, if a family earns below 100k dollars per annum, he will automatically qualify for full scholarship including housing and eatery nd all the diff stuff. if he needs more money on travel and stuff like that he can mail them for tat too

First build basic with investopedia like what is EPS , price to earning ratio , book value basically financial ratios then you will understand the book
Sharan did Mechnical engg. but after some time realized that that was not his cup of tea. What the hell he took Mech engg. instead of finance.
How do I get passes to these in person sessions?
My take away is content creation is the king in today's time. What I come to understand is one must do though research so to produce some of it.

In KVB I went to open a savings account. They've asked me to pay RS.6000 once the account is activated I can withdraw Rs.4000. Is it necessary for me to pay that amount..? Please guide me. Need your input. I was really disappointed with their policy...
