If I didn’t watch guides on what to do I would be so incredibly lost as a returning player, the game progresses so fast and throws so many features at you idk how a new player could keep up. Familiars, legion, link skills, inner abilities, cubing, star force, crafting, etc it all adds to the grind. The fact that basically every class finishes their tutorial at around level 30-40 (2nd job) and can usually get to 100+ within a couple hours is bonkers to me as someone who played in 2006 and had 1 character get to second job back in the day. It also makes the vast majority of content from 30-200 completely useless aside from a select couple questlines. The grind used to be leveling and the way the world was designed encouraged exploring as much as you could as you were leveling and doing quests which drove you to all the different regions which took time and effort to get to since traveling in the day felt like a real journey. Old Maple was far from perfect but in my opinion there’s never been a game that’s come close to the world building and feeling of adventure that it had. Now, it’s just about teleporting to the most optimal farming spots and grinding levels and mesos for gear to get to the next farming spot. I say all this as someone who just recently got back into the game, and I still genuinely think the game is fun despite all its flaws and to me I’m finally able to try out all the classes and go to all the areas I couldn’t get to back in 2006. The art design, sound design, and soundtrack are still consistently top notch, the skills and diversity between a lot of the classes is impressive, and they have smoothed over some of the rough spots from old Maple. The real problems are the predatory monetization and the prioritization of increasingly complex systems and unnecessary content that makes the new player experience an absolute nightmare. There’s some really simple solutions to make Maplestory more noob friendly, but I seriously doubt Nexon would do them for the pure reason that keeping players confused makes them more likely to spend money in the game. There’s a lot of things that they encourage you to spend money on that you can earn for free, but there’s no way to know that unless you really dig deep or follow guides online, so inevitably that leads to kids and new players spending money on pets, cubes, scrolls, and other things when they’re much more accessible than they make them seem. Apologies for the rant, just kept typing lmao, good video.
access to more skills and they are very flashy skills, more mobs, solo progression is an option, no more paywalls with reboot server, and still a very grindy game. maplestory is by far way better nowadays. i cant get over the fact reboot is a thing.. total game changer for a peasant like me lol. you dont even have to pay for a pet... unless you want the vac pet ofc.
To be fair a lot of us old maplers are grown up now. People still miss the exploring and the party quests. A lot of us felt inadequate when we saw people doing pink bean or killing balrogs back in the day. A lot of players want to make real progress and have a better understanding of how to get to that point. Maplestory isn't really built for the casual player anymore. I know a good bit of free to play players in regular server that are very funded just from utilizing events. You don't need 3L equips full starforced to enjoy the games content. Its pretty noob friendly
@@jessemoe727 the game itself has become objectively better gameplaywise, but it completely ditches what was a simple(even if unbalanced) and easier to understand experience as a reg server player I wish they just merged every world together, playerbase isn't big enough to sustain at this point. KMS can get away with multiple reg servers because there's still a lot of people that play reg(mostly because it has enough people to stay afloat economically, that and kms reboot was dogshit for a while).
I’d like to add in that even with guides it’s still incredibly hard. With very few new players it’s hard to expect content creators to cater to new players and the problem just gets worse as the trend continues. So many advanced concepts are used in videos that simply go over the head of the uninitiated. Star forcing, Nodes, managing UI elements…Even theme dungeons aren’t apparent to someone who has just never played before. It seems really hard to give fine tuned information about this game when the gap between veteran player and newbie is so damn wide.
playing Maple is like being kidnapped and bribed with drugs.. you can go home whenever you want to, but it's too hard to resist. so many times, when I'm ready to stop playing... a rune spawns, a daily mission arrives, an elite monster appears.
The solo gameplay part is pretty much on point. What made the older version of MS special to me were the party quests and seeing players everywhere at any time of the day. I truly missed that wholesome busy feeling where people weren't so focused purely leveling all the time or when people were able to help each other on every quests. I recently tried playing it again with my boyfriend and i honestly couldn't get into it because of all the forced solo quests to advance anywhere 😢 MS will always have a place in my heart though! I made so many friends in pre-big bang and made many memories there
There is party play in the game. Just not grinding wise. Things such as bosses, or party quests after lvl200 are all things you can do together on a daily basis.
@@ilikemycatsfried844 That's the thing though, most busy places are really in the 180-200+ lvl range. There is party play if you can actually find people which most of the time ive only seem them in higher lvl maps. Referring back to the point of the video, it's just not beginners friendly because of it. I've tried introducing someone to the game recently and it just wasn't fun for them because I wasn't able to do much with them. (PQs requiring a full party when we couldn't find anyone or not being able to share quests) :(
@@bomi9448 The PQs done today are mainly CPQ and Amoria PQ. Party-wise, it's common to party up to do weekly bossing ;) It is much easier to play now and progression has been sped up tremendously. Doesn't take a month to hit level 30 now haha!
@@ilikemycatsfried844 most of which, outside of bosses, are useless. They provide no good rewards for progression/cosmetics/flexing and feel incredibly outdated. Something can be fun, but if the end reward isn't good enough the replay value isn't high for players who intend to progress in the game. Considering all the daily mission time-gates, you're forced to make a choice between doing party content that's completely useless to your character progression or do your 20+ dailies so you can actually get to the fun boss fights the game has to offer. The new player experience is awful and overwhelming, as was mentioned in the video, making it difficult for any REAL casual and social players to get into the game resulting in party content, outside of boss fights, to essentially be dead. The one time we saw a massive resurgence in party quests was when Flames and other high tier rewards (for the time) were added to the Cross World party quest shop. During that event, the game felt somewhat like old maple. People chatting, socializing, enjoying the party quests. Some people trying to speed run for the best time, others using it as an opportunity to be engaged with friends and the game rather than just mindlessly 1 shotting mobs for 10+ hours while watching youtube/netflix. Party content helped bridge the gap between the multiple types of players. It was a way for Casual and social players to mess around, chat, and meet new people while still providing great rewards for those who wanted to progress their character
This really put to words how I feel about modern MS. I started playing back during the first anniversary and quit shortly after the Big Bang update. I'll come back every once in awhile to see what's new. The game just became so lifeless. I remember playing modern MS with some friends and realizing that we were being punished for trying to play together. Granted, classic MS also discouraged parties at times (EXP split), but I also remember plenty of opportunities where we threw that aside in favor of spending time together. You couldn't tackle a whole map by yourself anyway so why not? The excitement of starting new characters with your friends and helping each other until you reached Victoria Island where you eventually split up and embark on your own personal pilgrimage to get your job advancement, only to reconvene with everyone reborn as something stronger... It felt like you and your friends just went through a training arc in a TV show. Now, you're split up from the start and only meet up to show off your new gear. You're discouraged from partying up. You're discouraged from fighting along side each other. You're discouraged from doing PQs. You're discouraged from even fighting *bosses* with other players. Maplestory went from being a game where the community mattered, to being the most lonely, isolated online game I can think of.
It's the same with lots of mmo games, world of warcraft, RuneScape, turned into solo leveling, chats are dead, everyone rushing to endgame, social aspects are dead, good think they still have old versions released to revisit old era of these games, maybe MapleStory should bring old era servers back.
I remember hours of leveling my pirate as a kid, beating down mobs and then chatting with people and making friends hanging off of ropes as we heal up to go again. Real good memories, back before... how it is now.
bro this game used to be my favorite game , OST the PQ talking to new people making new friends farming for mesos because you only have like 20k mesos , traveling find new places all this just masterpiece i hope someday maplestory will be how it used to be with new updates & new pq .
i don't mind it being a solo grindfest as i don't have time to waste on party quests and stuff like 20 years ago, but the damn game feels like it is on life support, the news aren't loading, i tried the Cadena class and it fails to load a youtube video (seriously?), things are laggy or messy in some way, i will give it a try just for nostalgia sake.
What killed my love for this game is the amount of dailies and grinding I have to do to reach end game content is so messed up literally takes me months of grinding
@@randomdudehereandthere2445 old MapleStory you didn’t have dailies and if you want to be stronger there is other methods then hitting bosses every week
I'm glad Neople saw the writing on the wall and got DNF away from Nexon when they did. I just got back into DFO about three months ago and I absolutely love it. I played this game and Gunbound all around the same time I originally got into DFO....MS and Gunbound have both been long ruined. And that makes me sad.
Holy shit, don't I feel old now! I played MS back when the level cap was 200 and only a select few people actually made it to that level. Now level 200 is considered early level?! Also, I remember when the 5th class was added, Pirate! Their main weapon was a pistol. Now there's HOW MANY classes?!?
One of the key things for me burning out again, is that once you hit level 200 there is no variety for leveling…it’s literally one pathway for grinding with no variety. I find I get to Morass or Arcana and get bored with the journey and quit again
I’d say the biggest thing is the grind , my god the grind. Yes the grind doesn’t get bad til post 200 but it is stil bad, it is still a grind. If anyone from back in day remembers day grinding and getting .1, .01 per kill only getting 5%-10% per hour yeah that is still there the grind though delayed is stil there. So to any new players thinking of getting into ms , you have to ask yourself do I like grinding ? Other points the video touched upon are spot on as well, I think you wil be hard pressed to find a more solo oriented game than maple story. Because pqs and partying for Xp is seen as slow a lot of MS is a single player came within a multiplayer world.
I think that at least in reboot they could've made the server more party oriented with the introduction of pq's in the "early game" that way at least you'd have a choice of how to level up and not be forced to repeat the same 2 theme dungeons over and over again for legion
The level grind isn't even bad post 200, no way comparable to pre-bb rates. Especially with the upcoming 250 burn and all the +exp sources and totems we have now it's very easy to hit at least 250. And of course the grind becomes slow at some point, people aren't meant to hit the level cap at the moment. But you don't have to cap to experience all the content in the game
Well said. I can relate to this video from another UA-camr named Wizawhat who created a video called, *"My Favorite Game That No Longer Exists"* I recommend watching this 40min video as well since it really hits the spot on how it feels to know a game you've played in the past isn't what it use to be even as a returning player. 😯
I played pre-BB and the feel is so different now. IDK if I can ever play official or non-reboot servers. I also played vanilla WoW and I think that some of the same problems effecting it effected maple. As many people have pointed out in other videos, players are much more goal oriented now. When I played WoW and Maplestory, end game was something that I don't think many people expected to achieve. It was something you were inspired by and you looked up to people that had made it to end, especially in Maple where the grind was even worse than WoW. Games were seen as giant chat rooms and half the fun was hanging out and meeting new people. People were always "busy" doing stuff in every part of the game, and there were rarely any empty spots because of the slower pace of the game. You always had an opportunity to make a friend. I was an Archer and I ALWAYS had people giving me free arrows and even gold, and that's something that I'll never forget about OG maple. People were very generous with their time and resources. Going to a new zone was like discovering Atlantis or something. At some point, MMO's became less about the social aspect (((THE ENTIRE POINT OF AN MMO BTW))) and more about self-interest and "what can I personally get out of the experience." Sure, there was an element of that in all MMO's, but it was mostly just trolls that no one wanted to be around anyway. I remember when Big Bang came out... It absolutely destroyed this game and its community. I'm sure they're making more money now, but Maple went from being a beloved game that was one of the first (and best) F2P experiences, to being a lesson on how terrible F2P will always be because of greed.
I started earlier too. I think it was fine even after BB, if they hadn't gone full-out on p2w and sped up the leveling even more. It's a pity they don't offer classic servers, because it used to be such a good game.
@@oppai9611 its crazy how in every SEA adaptation of the game, rates were lower, game reward were lesser, and always have this strange mechanics called sparking and pity; its like you cant get a single shit unless you spent a certain amount of money to the game (doggo).
SEA server be like the hard mode if we compare with Global server especially as reboot server. Grinding is not my problem coz i always watch some netflix or youtube while im grinding. The real hard is price of all cubes in cash shop that are all high such as equlity cube price is really crazy and they never show the rate of tiering up at all. ps.sorry for my bad grammar
Another one of those videos: person doesnt play the game then complains about the game. Most of the things you complained about having been removed are either literally still in the game like party play and the economy, or obsolete in a 2022 mmo, like prequests. You complain that the tutorial is too long while lamenting that it levels you too quickly. You complain that the window is too small without just.. changing the window in settings? I'm entirely not sure what you're complaining about with the shadower cruel stab, but if it's the sound, you can turn that off, leaving monster sounds, bgm and voice lines in if you want. If it's the lines, you can change that back to maplestory classic too. Why are you complaining about the number of classes? The game has been out for 18 years. That's like complaining that league has too many champions. There are things to complain about in this game, but you touched on almost none of them.
for some reason every time i see someone complain about any of the like 8 mmos i play it's always someone who quit in whats considered like early early game but half the time they think they are genuinely halfway through the game. reviewers are wild man
Out of all the things he pointed out, the number of characters is the most ridiculous one for me. Is he expecting Nexon to hide most of the classes from new players so they won't be overwhelmed? Just pick a class that looks cool to you and have fun, it's not science. If you're taking the game so seriously that a large amount of choices ruins it for you that's on you, not the game.
The many classes maplestory has is a good thing, I disagree with that part of the video. Getting to 200 pretty fast isn't a big issue either, it lets you figure out if it is a class you'd enjoy playing. I think they shouldn't have made it so that you'd have to grind classes for link skill and legion stat bonuses. I never wanted to play mercedes and I hated doing so, but her link skill is too good not to pass up. Same with Evan. I also don't like playin aran, but the combo orbs are good for grinding, I just haven't found the patience to grind it to 210.
Nexon destroy their own game! I mean even if they wont touch it I think was still 200k+- online players right now... How they even destroy this pure game? Just update sometimes keep it rolling with party quests easy exp chilling with friends and your guild killing bosses... LIKE HOW THIS GAME BECOME A PRIVATE SERVER :///... If they was stick to the old maple story make more levels update some items make season passes and more im sure was be more then 1 million online.
Maplestory just needs , more party play to be great again, without deleting the solo play way, I would add hunting grounds like LKC Was back in the day, that was fun, also buff quests and party quests exp, without making them broken to the point that no one would solo grind anymore. I read something about this in the korean forums.
"Objectively better" wait what, that's almost like saying "objectively subjectively better"... For it to make sense you need to define exactly in which categories you're comparing.
I should’ve expanded on that, The end game consists of the following things: Bossing while holding 1 key and letting your pet do the rest Farming while holding 1 key and letting your pet do the rest Not playing the game but paying for leech since leveling up was the process mentioned above Lastly, Without HP washing some classes were unplayable in the late game. Referring more to de mechanics of the game in comparison to others
@@IsGreed maple bossIng is definitely some of the most involved out there wdym? Early Bossing is full of potion locks, but actually bossing has a shit ton of depth with how you approach and tons of ways to play based on classes.
patience is the problem now days because maple requires alot of it and it sometimes is a pain to try and figure things out in this game as a new player, so much information floods you
@@halalstoryjami9663 I disagree, not every game. Maplestory requires too much time and patience, if you don't want to spend any money, you would have to spend time playing up to 2 to 6 hours everyday for months doing dailies, legion, bossing, or Lvling on your main with dropgear+mesorate. It's just not worth the time to play this game, the grind truly never ends.
I just stick to private servers really. MapleLegends recreates nostalgia pretty well, has a good active community and balancing, it's 2x exp but still challenging as fuck. Most party quests are active, i've had similar experiences in MapleLegends that I remember having back then in original MS and it's a good feeling. Of course it's not the same thing, cause we're all grown up now but oh well
Try playing pre-bb, nostalgia isn't going to make you want to keep playing. Current maplestory is just better and a lot of people hate to admit it because of all their good memories.
@@hollow1742 Yes pre BB was fun back then, try playing it now and you'll hate it after a week. The novelty will soon wear off when you don't experience that "magic" again. Remember there was HP washing, archer/sin melee range, mass leeching, getting 1 level in 10 hours at coolies, tons of hackers, very little endgame, waiting half an hour to get to another continent, among hundreds of other inconveniences that would be very apparent after playing modern maplestory. Community was the sole reason why the game was so good back then.
@@hollow1742 do you play 1x exp private server tho. or biased 4-8x exp server with huge amount of cheap endgame items (legends etc) because try a 1x exp and see how interacting it is.
I feel alot of things in this video are wrong and just a clickbait. The game has been out for years you cant expect everyone to be in the same city that your used to. Says the games in a sorry state yet nexon releases there quarterly revenue and the game has never been more profitable. Says have to wait months for items in a “dead” server yet the ah in all the servers r full to the rim with legit every item you could want. The population isnt as big as it used to be in regular servers and party play was toned down to fit solo progression like pretty much every mmo except bosses.
Yep. If he couldn’t stand that then ol dude woulda never made it past lvl 120. IMO 60-100 is worse than 140-200 lol. Woulda never made it past lotusnpreq
@@borkguy we aren’t doing anything lol. My logic is that if you’re so uninterested and have such a squirrelly short attention span that you can’t make it through a 30-45 min tutorial on an MMO, then you would have never lasted anyway. It’s an MMO and MMOs are grindy, especially Korean MMOs(which is what this game is). Hell, at level 240, you gain a level every 2 totems, that’s 4 hours of hardcore grinding and that’s only if you have a totem active, 2x exp, 1.5x mvp exp, 10% increase from monster park potions, 30% from Mercedes’ link skill, etc. raw dogging it with absolutely no exp buffs and no totem? Idk, a long time. Maybe 10-12 hours and each level it gets longer and longer. Highest level in reboot rn is 289 and it takes him weeks to level up lol Not to mention all the learning involved. Some classes have combos, some have animation cancels, learning burst dmg rotations, learning boss mechanics, learning party quests, doing boss prequests, cubing gear, saving money to starforce gear, learning about hammering. The list is endless. If you can’t survive 1 hour, you wouldn’t last anyway.
After many years I downloaded MS again and quit after 15 minutes. Downloaded maple legends and never looked back, nostalgia through the roof and great little community. Really reminds me of what old MS used to be like
I really loved the content between level 1-70. Partyquesting / Theme dungeons and questing around. I started playing an new character and like this video said. You reach level 40 with an LOT of cutscenes. And even doing the 2nd job advancement without any test or so.
I played it over a decade ago and it was a, uh, experience back then. One of the first times I ever discovered what playing an MMOROG as a solo player was all about. No really, I could never find any players to team up with and I was always a dollar short of being able to buy the gear I needed. Played it for 3 weeks, reach level 30 and simply quit out of boredom. Played Flyff for a few longer only to quit when I hit the pay to win wall.
I really appreciate classic Maple because it showed the game as a whole new world that had a lot of hidden finds to it which incorporated a lot of party play that we obviously don’t see in Maple now. However, I think a lot of people are still living in the nostalgia that they would rather go back to classic Maple knowing how horrible the progression was back then. Everyone is so used to getting instant gratification now that if you don’t get to a certain level within 30 mins-1 hour, the game will feel like hell. Especially since majority of the players are in the early-mid 20’s, people need faster progression since we’re not young anymore who didn’t have to worry about adulthood back then 😭 And MapleStory was always P2W even before pre-BB. The introduction of pets was something that many players who weren’t of age to have a card or get those prepaid NX game cards from the drug/convenience stores made it inconvenient not to have one since you always had to loot every single item/meso that dropped from grinding.
My biggest gripe is how the game encourages solo grinding nowadays. There is a point in the late-game where you will have to select the best grinding spots if you wanna level up faster, and god have mercy on you if you chose to play in a crowded server! People will dispute these spots like mad, going as far as inventing their own sort of "etiquette" as to dictate when a map is rightfully claimed by them or not. Maplestory is the ONLY MMO I know where people will actually do whatever they can to grind monsters alone and shun any sort of help, because in this stupid game, partying up is actually detrimental since EXP is divided among party members with some shitty formula.
The sad thing is, early Big Bang was still pretty good. i personally liked the mechanic class with the big robot you could ride on and Evan was a cute concept. But it became a death by a thousand cuts where little by little the game became unrecognizable.
In 09, I was level 15 and had a full buddy list of people I would talk to on a daily basis. I tried to play again last year and went to level 70 without talking to a single person and quit due to boredom
I think the theme of your video is right how its just terrible for new players to come into the game, but for mostly all the wrong reasons. its so many other things that make the game horrible that are not listed here but i give u a 10/10 for the dumb cutscenes that are practically unskippable.
Weird video, cause it’s right and wrong. I don’t think old maple is a better game, but it’s a better social hub if that makes sense. It’s just as in not more grindy than the current. I do very much miss the party aspect, but it’s not like it’s entirely gone. It’s just backloaded, bossing is were the party content is now. Also most players hang around 200+ towns. Or Hene if you wanna chat with randos. As for the new player experience aside from long cutscenes, it’s legitimately wild how easy it is for them to get started if they go in knowing maple is a grind game(it doesn’t hide that, it’s the point). Also Reboot is very very Social oriented(complete solo progression is for the hard cores, 90% of players rely of guilds/party’s to progress) But I’m not gonna say I blame people for feeling this way, old maple was something special and I bet wanting to play that and seeing whatever the hell modern maple is, is jarring as fuck. But I really think Maple is still the exact same grind heavy shit it’s always been just wearing a different coat of paint. And NX should just merge all the reg severs there’s non point in having multiple since 90 percent of folk play in reboot.
Maple was always a grind, that's for sure. While the mechanics are better in the current version, when referring to the game as a whole (the experience) in its relative timeframe, I think the old version is much better than the game is now. Also, new players who are starting to play MapleStory now (regardless of age), are just trying to figure out what's happening. They will most likely spend quite a few hours playing alone before even realizing that guilds are a thing (If they actually make it to that point). Since the map is so large and they're mostly going to where the guide is showing, which are solo farming locations. I tried making the video not too long but I definitely missed some points. I think the best way for me to describe the current MapleStory would be something like this: If I were to tell you that I have a TV show where the first 6 seasons are confusing, long, and brutal but the 7th season is great, would you really start watching that show? I definitely see where you're coming from and I really do appreciate the feedback
@@IsGreed I 100 percent agree that it’s new player experience is rough. And it’s a shame that something that’s legitimately special has such a steep climb to get to it. And no prob, I thought the video was good with great points. Even if I have a different PoV
@@IsGreed That's because you're looking at it through rose colored glasses. If pre-bb maplestory released today it would flop pretty hard, the unbalance was ridiculous and mechanics were pretty boring. In the early days new players also struggled to know what to do, most ending up at their 2nd or 3rd job advancement. The socialization was better, but that was the same in every game (wow, runescape, etc.) This is coming from someone who's been playing since Broa release, and as nostalgic as I am I can clearly see maplestory as a game has been vastly improved but the mentality of the community shifted.
@@IsGreed did you even play a old version of the game recently? i played plenty of ps on launch towards prebb "endgame" and yes its a grind but its def less of a grind then current maple. i did 1-77 in 15 days (yes i played 16h a day like a degen) on a pre 4th job 1x exp server that didnt have 2x exp coupons. what made the old game "harder" was being a fcking 8 yo. balance wise old maple is a joke with classes like priest and dk outshining everyone. yes i love old maple yes i wish i could go back to old maple. but current version is def the better game overall.
@@IsGreed also you acting like old maple had any support system. maple just doesnt hold your hand well in progression it doesnt do it well now but even back in the day there was no hand holding. prob 50% of the players crying about how good old maple was played 1 year got to level 10-30 on 3-5 classes and prob didnt even do ap right on atleast 2 of them.
i remember when i got back into the game, i skipped a huge chunk of the tutorial; just for the game to softlock and i had to redo my character. let's just say i've never touched This game sense. I really loved Maplestory 2 more then i could ever do with 1, but with how MS1 is now, 2'd probobly have turned into the same mess eventually. Nexon always loves to do intresting things; then after they get bored half-ass, and if they *Slightly* don't make a quota they like; cancel the game.
Old and current player here, I dont think the game was ruined it was just changed, why was it changed? Because it had to. If we let nostalgia leave the room and are brutally honest with ourselves, old maplestory wasnt a very good game, the thing that made it fun was the charm, aesthetic and the friends. Now, how long can a game last solely on those things and not through actual gameplay and good game mechanics? Not a long time. Maplestory had to change in order to continue existing, nothing can change that, do I think every change was for the best? God no, Nexon is by far one of the worst gaming companies but god do they know how to make an addicting and fun at times progression based SOLO game. Although the change from party based gameplay to solo is one of the worst, its one of the biggest reason for the game being alive(and maybe dead for some) today. but as the charts suggest, more alive then dead for sure. So yeah thats my opinion
Cool video man! I’ve been playing since 2008, and i definitely agree with ur points. I’m mostly playing for the nostalgia these days… and that sweet BGM of course. Subbed!
The nostalgia is really the only thing that keeps bringing me back. But once I got tired of the solo grind I opted for private servers that hit on nostalgia even harder.
I honestly really missed the old maplestory purely because I could actually keep up with it when I played it a long time ago. Now, I feel awfully left behind and not to mention, you basically need to fund if you really want your character to be proper good.
Mabinogi is neat! Of course, they're currently doing some wild event where you can grind 1500 levels in a heartbeat if you're a new player, but it's neat! Oh, and you have to click "allow privileges" within a millisecond of trying to open it... but still, neat.
Yoooo I miss that beggining I forgot they used to do that! Dress up in the apple and go through that mini tutorial. Man maple was a legend back then. Now everything is just rushed...
I think the saddest thing about Maplestory 2 was that it was everything that Maplestory players wanted. On release, it had a beautiful, full open world with tons of exploration to do, emergent gameplay, just a chill game to grind mobs in and level up. But we didn't get that version. We got a version from like 2 years after the initial Korean release, by which point they'd solidly done the exact same thing to it that they'd done to Maplestory 1, adding in a long, slow, boring main questline that emphasized solo leveling above all else. Reach cap in about 40 hours of walking around clicking on NPCs and reading text, and then do your weeklies. That's it. That was the game. The huge open map they'd made, all those interesting zones, the PK area with strong endgame mobs to grind, none of it mattered at all. You didn't even need to visit half of the zones in the game, and of the half you did visit, it was usually just to walk through and click on one NPC and instantly gain a level.
I actually tried playing MapleStory again 2 weeks ago and there was just no one there to talk to It felt so empty, and there was a bunch of redundant quests and dungeons and bosses which felt so weird to me because it’s just wasted I quit after 1 day because I wasn’t looking forward to a mindless grind without any friends
Those are definitely good observations pointed out. I chose specifically to play in Elysium knowing it was a dead server because I didn’t want to fight for maps. I didn’t talk to anyone until I was 210 and that was after 4 months I started playing since Dec 2020. After a lot of people starting quitting at 2022, we merged guilds and I only logged on part time to talk smack with other guildies or boss to test my gear progression since that’s mega slow and I refused to buy cubes in CS other than violet cubes. I guess it’s a decent game you can play 1-3 hrs and then get on with your life as it doesn’t absorb too much of your life
Look ma it's me! 2:39 (TobenHasAGun). I play the game very actively and will say. It's absolutely terrible and I would never recommend it to anyone...yet Positive: It has a really fun gameplay loop (I enjoy the zen grind of killing mobs over and over with flashy skills and despite how it feels it's still 50x better than original maplestory even at 250+ unbelievably. You gained about 24% exp an hour at level 68 which is less than you make at 245 on totem.) and it's fun to group up and fight bosses in. (at least the later ones). Being part of two great communities helps a lot too. Also of course it's cute and nostalgic. Negative: Pretty much everything else. There's just too many toxic elements to Maplestory. The arcane force/sacred force system which requires you to do dailies for literal months. Every boss having drops so rare you'll be farming them for months. Then once you get them you have to starforce which is very RNG and you can put about 20 hours of active grinding into it and get literally nothing back or worse a downgrade. The other two upgrade systems are also RNG hellfest (cubing and flaming) and all 3 of them use the same resource mesos so you can't do all 3 (or money on regular server). There's just too many systems in the game that revolve around, "and you will get to use this in 4-8 months conservatively." Even most of the events are simply more dailies/weeklies to pile on your character. It has gotten a lot better with smoother exp curves, breaks in between 'events', more rewards to help you get characters get to fun content faster but it's still not enough. I think the exp is fine, they need to reduce a lot of the toxic systems. Semi-unrelated: I think the issue you feel about socializing in Maplestory is more of an issue of all MMOs unfortunately. Most communications have drifted to guild/discord. So unless you join discord you're essentially cut off of the world which kind of sucks but this issue also happens in other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV (That said anyone reading this thinking about playing Maplestory should definitely play FFXIV).
Being a 2005 player, I was used to grinding 8h per level at merely lvl60, so it’s still walk in the park for me.😂 So far, I hit 250 in 3 months and 6k legion, fresh account. But I can definitely say not many new players would want to put up with that
Wouldn't say Maple has ever been my favourite game, but I thought that the design of the older maps (most of what has already existed before the Big Bang patch, including Ereve which is understandably from a later era of the game because it introduced the Cygnus Knights) are beautiful. And the overall vibe of the game takes me back to the early 2000s (like 2000-2004; except Ereve and ToT, because those ones are quite polished looking) even though I only started playing in early 2008 (or at least before pirates came out). One of my favourite things to do is just to hang out with friends and not necessarily focused on doing anything productive. But since I love the maps so much, I would say my favourite aspect of the game is the exploration of the different maps. The wait time when travelling between the regions by ship really made me feel like I was on an adventure. And the music certainly helped create that feeling of adventure. I thought that the world was so beautifully designed. Getting lost in Ellinia and Perion felt surreal. Honestly though, I hated Perion but loved it at the same time because it really felt like being stranded in some boring barren place full of rocks and dangerous predator hogs. And as for Ludi, jumping off that long ladder was so trippy. That entire town is trippy AF, a dream come true for Lego fans. I also enjoyed traveling to Temple of Time. It felt like I was about to meet god or something when I travelled there lol. Of course I had to travel around with my thief account so I could use that "poof" skill or whatever it's called just to avoid taking damage. And the Orbis tower and Ludi towers... was such an adventure. I also really wanted to visit Coke Town and Night Market although they weren't made available in GMS at the time. I also had the BGMs downloaded in mp3 format because liked it so much. I liked the BGMs so much that I made an account to upload BGMs. At the time there were some BGMs missing from this website so I wanted to upload them just so I could share them. I think the most popular upload was the ToT BGM with over 100K views. I haven't logged into that account for a while now.
this video is meh, yes i agree old maple was the sht and my youth, but you are disregarding the game for what it is today. you didnt talk about any positive things of todays game/ any negative parts of the old game. Shit comparison overall. The fact that a 2d mmo this old has a bigger monthly playerbase right now then many many many recently released mmo's (yes even new world has less players alr then current maple) to then say this game is in a sorry state is kinda lame. Yes current maple has plenty of problems, but i 100% believe old maple had more. The amount of good things nexon has done in the past year and are doing in kms rn isnt even mentioned.
Might be because it was my first MMO back then but when I tried playing this some odd 15 or so years ago I couldn't even get out of the beginning lobby to play the proper tutorial lol. I don't think I was alone either since there were a bunch of people just hopping around in there trying to figure out how to start the game and I think someone eventually told me after lingering for a while but I only played about 10 minutes before stopping since it was late. Not sure why but I never did go back to the game after that.
not to mention how weird bossing is, i'd rather just buy the gear i need instead of waste hours and meso trying to obtain/strengthen it heck, you gotta have someone carry you most of the time in reboot lol i actually enjoyed MS2, i loved the customization and especially the exploration, sort of brought back that feel of playing MS1 for the first time (albeit i only started MapleStory when Phantom first released) i wish i was around for classic maple, i bet Nexon would make mad $$$ if they brought back a classic server too, quite sad :p
> heck, you gotta have someone carry you most of the time in reboot lol You don't, but it does speed up progression so massively that it's generally worth while to be carried. Kobe has an entire series solo progressing on KMS reboot. Which KMS reboot doesn't have totems, akechi/princess no, or gollux gear. And he didn't use guild skills until lomien iirc. Also they wouldn't make much money for a classic maplestory. As an avid OSRS & CWoW fanboy. Maplestory pre-big bang was an alpha game. It was no where near being a complete game. And releasing a "Maplestory Classic" wouldn't result in a *lasting* player boom like OSRS or CWoW did.
Oh, the free market back when I first discovered it, I honestly thought that place was a market to get free stuff but damn the name of that place got me back When I was new to maplestory.
No matter how much I wish there could be an official old school Maplestory like there is for Runescape and WoW, I know it wouldn't work out because the game has always been inherently flawed and wouldn't work today. A lot of the things we're nostalgic for would be considered unacceptable by modern standards. The tedious grind that forced us to party with strangers, the lack of easy fast travel that forced you to walk around the world and use transit stations with other people, the need to spam your merch at FM when you couldn't afford a merchant, etc., may have contributed so much to the community aspect of Maple that made it such a magical experience, but they'd all be considered a "lack of QoL" in MMORPGs today, and no one's willing to put up with that. Even with those pre-BB private servers, it's just not the same. The standards for MMOs have changed, the internet has changed, and people have changed.
i quit in like 2017 and never came back only playing a few private servers since 2020 main reason for never going back was arcane symbols and now theres even a new set of symbols T_T makes it really hard to compete as new account coming back, also too late to go for high exp leaderboards since i didnt have an account when they increased it from 275 to 300
yes yes FOOKING YES 100%! This Game got patched to be a gambling money machine and i dont know why people " accepting " it. But seeing those dislikes ... Maple Community is lost
as a maplestory player that still plays semi-regularly i can usually understand a lot of criticisms but this video is ridiculous. it’s clear you didn’t take over a day playing how it is now. opening a video with sfx turned up to the point where they overwhelm even the music and trying to use it as a negative point for the game is ridiculous. i’m pretty sick of people coming into the game playing for one day. making arguments that show their lack of experience. bizarre to me that you treat the game as if it isn’t supposed to age at all when developed for 18 years. yeah, fucking obviously there’s more classes now. it’s one of the main content points and as the game is developed more, more classes are added. take a game like overwatch, would you say that being able to pick from a variety of characters that have different play styles so practically anyone can find something they like is seriously a negative aspect of the game? yes, after completing the storyline to introduce your character, you’re a higher level. the leveling curve has changed greatly over the years and in my opinion for the better. there’s a lot of crucial mechanics in the game such as guilds and bossing that are locked behind a level wall and if the leveling curve was the same as it used to be, it would take days or weeks to reach such a basic part of the game. instead, now that there is a wider variety of bosses that are meant for players in an extremely large range of progression, they are accessible earlier. while reboot is more solo because of the lack of trading, the community is much more prominent because it is a more popular sever with more guilds, discords, and popular maps are usually full around the time new updates drop which is relatively frequent. also, the regular severs have a large market. i don’t know what the fuck you’re on about when you say that you could wait weeks or months for an item to come into circulation because that’s basically a lie. the game wasn’t better gameplay wise back then, and while the experience of big trading makers and pqs is gone the same experience can be had from bossing in a party or talking to others while training. trying to critique a massive game that been developed for over 18 years at this point a 3 minute video while being uneducated on most of the topics is a bad idea .
Unpopular opinion: People who stopped liking maplestory never truly liked the game, they just liked the social aspect. It's like saying you like hiking but you don't like walking, you just like the view. We have a better playerbase now with less and less people being 'henehoes'. Games either get shut down or they evolve. Ask anyone who played mapleroyals (a private server with early maple content). These people quit quite quickly as it's only purpose is to talk and soak up nostalgia.
Say it louder for all these Neanderthals reminiscing about the version of this game where there is literally no point, no end game, nothing. Hours to gain a singular level up. If you want a community and chat simulator go play roblox or something.
@@MrFloat777 Exactly, they are just like the elderly people reminiscing about their childhood saying everything was better back then. It was only remembered as better because we were kids. It's always been a grind heavy game but now there is an actual purpose to grinding where as there was no reason to pass level 120 or even 100 because mobs didn't go that high.
This is fallacious af. You're literally saying that anyone who played the game has to like how it's changed tolerate the changes and have no say in the matter. This is toxic
Actually, you're right about the first part, because MapleStory does not exist anymore, haha. The social aspect is only a part of what I liked about the game. I actually love the design of the maps, the music, and the traveling and exploration aspect. With the (late 2010s) new maple, there is no "traveling aspect" anymore. You just go to the grand tree in the middle of Vic Island and you can get to anywhere instantly. The problem with online games is that it's going to have legacy content that the game companies want to get rid of but could not. So all the old content come to be treated like warts that hindered their new vision for the game. Most aspects of the old Maple which I like, has nearly or wholly nothing to do with the game mechanics. And now on to the part where you mentioned hiking. The view is one of the most essential aspects of hiking. If you were walking stairs in a massive mall or an underground bunker, it would not be hiking anymore. The aspect of nature is as essential as walking itself. Both aspects make up what hiking is. Even just walking around a suburban neighborhood, I would not call it "hiking". I would just refer to it as a walk, instead. No slopes/hills and a lack of nature. That isn't hiking in my book. I did "quit" (I was never invested in playing the game full-time in the first place) Maple Royal and Legends quite quickly, but I get easily bored with all games these days. I actually explored all of the old maps and felt really fortunate to be able to experience that again. I think Coke Town was also made available...? That was like a dream come true. I might just visit Legends/Royals/etc. again soon lol. It's like revisiting my hometown.
not unpopular, but definitely correct. most "old players" only did PQ content. they avoided the mobbing grind at all costs to do some party questing. it's why the player count was so low once you got to level 60+, no more LPQ or CPQ or whatever was out by that time. now that PQs are basically gone, you have to grind or be a dailyboy, and "old players" don't like that. everyone just wants freebies. wow and ffxiv have destroyed the mmo culture, gotta get to muh endgame ASAP
I watched the video and honestly I am so dissapointed. Not a hate comment or anything but dead ass you're giving out opinions on the game when you haven't even breached VJ and it kills me inside a little to know that this video is getting views and influencing others for the worse that don't know better.
People are 100% nostalgia driven with old school maple. The maple that is today is much better. All you have to do is join a guild and you'll see that the community sense is very much still there.
Same when people make statements of 'it used to take hours to get to level 30' Well buddy, try grinding over 250. That will take hours too 😂 and you are right im more active in guilds now and its so enjoyable
@@remon.d8341 The whole point of it is to feel the progression even if its slow every level is an accomplishment and you could actually tell you improved with a single level up. they killed the early game experience which was so awsome between level 1 to 70 you grinded! but you felt rewarded for it! checking a player's profile and see a level 75 would make you admire him and it gave you motivation to grind even more i cant say that about todays maple.
@@p0wer672 you still progress with every level up through hyper stats node slots upgrades, extra nodes main stat new arcane river maps etc. Instead of admiring a lvl 70 back in the day now you can admire lvl 270
i believe there still is a sense of community within the maplestory today. its no where like it was back in 2009-2012 era but if you find a cool, supporting guild, it can still be a fun game. there was never any pressure to swipe regardless of how hard bosses are. progression is always up to the player. there are some gating aspects to the game like certain content being unlocked at 250,260,265,270 but its not necessary to have fun with the game. it sounds like you had a hard time finding a solid group or guild to play the game with instead of your friend that picked up and dropped the game within the hour because of the “unskippable” tutorial/walkthrough (which are skippable for some classes)
I feel old maple gave people a falsehood of community cause most people who talk about this never made it pass lvl 100. The pqs is the main thing people talk about when it comes to community in the game and honestly it was just bad design cause each server could only allow one party at a time it forced the community to interact to steal spots etc. You cant expect people to just sit there and joke around in maple like before be ayse there are so many other ways to communicate. Some guilds discords have easily 30 people in voice chat just laughing and joking instead of talking in game
Idk what everyone here is talking about. Reboot is more popular than any server ever has been in the games history and that’s a fact and you can check it for sure, in Reboot, on a Saturday afternoon, go to mushroom shrine when someone calls an MVP. Better have a good computer or you’re lagging out, that’s how many people will be crammed in a single map. Don’t even get me started on when destiny first dropped. It was intense. Any map above lvl 210, good luck finding an open channel, infact, reboot was so populated during this new event they had to add 10 extra channels. Can you think of a single time back in “the old maple days” where “there were so many people” where nexon had to ADD channels? No.
@@MrFloat777 old era it’s lower quality costumes, skills, there for require for each player on screen is less than now, surely you saw a chair that’s entire map big before right?
I play maplestory 2 but never play maplestory 1, once maplestory 2 closed, nexon made gifts for the players who went to ms1 after the closure but my friends from ms2 left after a week because the game was more aggressive in progress, compared to ms2 which was almost giving things away , even ms1 veterans asked ms2 fans not to play the game because of the high farming it has unless you play in rebbot, I never played ms1 and now I realize that I shouldn't do it
i somewhat agree with all of this, but smth they could do is they can just... bring back sengoku? bring back ghost exorcist? bring back dark lords? permanent totem? hmmmm? sorry did you say you havent played during big events like pink bean x yeti to get the bis title? too bad, sorry but you can get the monster park title... after 11 weeks of doing a annoying daily... 7 times, yes, 3-4 months of playing for 15 minutes at a time every day to get a title, or smth dont forget current endgame which is grinding the same map for over a month to gain a single level
Hi Greed, I respect freedom of speech, and this video is a good example of that. Though in my opinion it feels like this video is just another attempt like many others did to discourage new people to try out the game without even trying it because of salty and negative-nostalgic intent. Looking at the references you've put in your video, it shows you've barely even played the game as it is now. Aswell as how the game works in terms of starter settings, you seem to put bar-low effort in trying to make the game playable for yourself, the unstretched screen could be fixed by a simple ''ALT-ENTER'' input. It's unfortunate that you're trying to be malicious to a game that's a whole new game nowadays. It's like playing League of Legends and saying it's shit because it's not like Dota 2. If the game now isn't for you, leave it, these kinds of videos are unneccesary if you're not putting the proper research in it. The only opinion i share with you is the fact that the regular server is extremely ''pay to win''. But Reboot really makes up for it. It's basically an Iron Man mode in runescape, but then as a server. I would love to see your reply. Im always open for discussion and conversation, though i feel like this video is not a serious and/or important issue for you. Cheers! -FriedCats.
@@takejisan808z Exactly. There's certainly a good amount of party play in Maplestory nowadays. (CPQ, Mid/late game bosses and even old PQ's for achievements.) The game was a great social hub before because, we didn't have Discord or Whatsapp. Now Maplestory has become an actual game rather than an enhanced chat box.
And now this company demands that people go to jail for making a private server and they threaten to sue Discord for refusing to give personal user info
People who play maplestory deserves to put that on their CV because that shit is a full-time job 💀 all the endgame players practically are working to fund their maplestory accounts
I never played the original but I tried maple story 2 because it looked neat and lost interest so fast because of the long intro quests for classes. Didn’t know that was also part of the original. Still wish it had kept going though since the art style was so cute
Just like any other MMO there is a lot of grinding. Slowly working on equipment, learning mechanics for harder bosses, and going through new content is what makes it worth it.
firstly you can skip some of the quest lines after completing them at least once on one character such as the Explorer and Vanishing Journey quests. You no longer have to do certain quest lines on multiple characters such as Silent Crusade for Arkarium (to get dom pendant). *More than 40 classes many of which are new player friendly such as the explorers, cygnus, Jett, Kana, Luminous, AB, Resistance (excluding Blaster due to complexity), etc. A lot of people returned via destiny and the game even got a massive influx of new players. Ignition kept that going as well. Game is more new player friendly than you think, but I can understand certain things may seem convoluted at first. Not everything needs explaining if you just read, and explore the game's theme dungeons so you can get a better grasp of the routines of the game. It's still pretty grindy, and you still have your hene hoes but yeah - the game still offers a lot especially if you play on reboot. Our guild does help new/returning players until they get the hang of the updated content and meta, and in fact, many guilds do. The only downside to this is the level requirement being 101 to even join/make a guild (idk why), but it isn't that difficult to do nowadays. Anyway, just thought I'd share some thoughts.
Maplestory is a game I will never play again. It was years ago I decided to try the game out. I found a party to group with. Suddenly, everyone left the party. I instantly received an automated ban for no reason at that point. I will never play this game because it's moderation system ruins anything which might be good about the game.
I just don’t like the gameplay loop they adopted. Once you’re rushed to level 200 (rushed, relating to most MMO progression times) you grind in map A, then B, then C, etc., and you do daily bosses, u tip you reach the next zone. And then you repeat that recipe for the next zone. Grind on map A, map B, map C, while also doing daily bosses, and then once again reach the next zone. There is so much time spent doing the same exact grinds that it just seems like a waste of time to me.
i played this game mostly solo, for a very long time... but i never got past the early/mid game because things like cubing, starforcing, bossing, and 5th job are so confusing. Also i'm a terrible introvert and could never bring myself to ask someone to carry me through CRA so uh yeah never really gonna get anywhere even at level 200 because the gear is all bosses lol
Decent video although you're understanding of the game is very outdated. Modern maplestory is very different from the old days. Many of the things you said that modern maple lacks are extremely untrue. Large communities reside on discord and some would even argue that the game is more social than it ever was. The grind is much more streamlined and is a uniquely attractive aspect of the game for many people. This is coming from a player who has played parts of beta, pre bb, post bb, covid era to modern maple.
@@roymarthkirby428 i just accidentally made my characters on my more recent-ish account on a reg server and then regretted it when reboot got massive so now i've gone deep into the sunk cost fallacy
@@roymarthkirby428 what are you talking about? Up to level 150 you probably won't talk to anyone. Compare to old school maple where you start pq at level 10 Just see the communities in private servers.

I quit back in 2012 me and my sister use to play all the time i remember she said dont log on they jave new hax out and just by logging in they cant steal your shit. I logged in anyway thinking it would be rare or something next day my character looked fine i had a lik bandit had the maple helm pan lid all that. I started fighting n was like why my dmg so shitty. Thoses mfers took my orange 8atk glove (high atm before all the different scrolls we just had the brown scrolls not the blue 70% and all that) never played again that game use to always be a hack fest wit vacs but a login hack is crazy i was so mad
But I loved Maplestory 2. With a passion. It is still the only game I have ever smiled 100% of the time just by going to the log in screen. For context however, I never got to play MS1, and I played MS2 on NA rather than KR. Regardless, there has never been a sadder ending for a game for me...
as someone who has played maplestory 1 on and off for about 8 years i gotta say that maplestory 2 was a really fun casual experience with alot that it did right and i found enjoyable to play through. it felt like i just couldn't stop until suddenly i hit the level cap and was looking for anything left to do(never got those super OP weapons that i assume you do have to grind for though) wish it could've stayed around... i have a friend who doesn't like grindy games but he totally coulda play maple 2 with me it was so much more casual and fun than the usual mmo
when it comes to the content and the presentation i'd say that maplestory is going nutty atm, but the community aspect is certainly stretched thin due to the sheer size of the game and generally unfriendly levels of grinding to get anywhere past lvl 200 causing it to be a little hard to find anybody to talk to and do stuff with i'm level 226 and i already feel like i've sweated when i know that every 10 levels in arcane river requires like way more xp per level than the last so i'm probably still in the baby range
At 226, one level takes around 15 minutes. I get that's quite long but compared to old maple where it'd take like a month to hit level 30, I think this pace feels nicer. Play a little yet still progress.
@@Samosayummyyay what kind of 500x xp are you on where one level takes 15 minutes at 226? with double xp and abusing runes and pendant it takes me like an hour to get 10% if i was really going at it the whole time.
@@tspancakes8574 Totem, 2x exp, 50% MVP exp, pendant. If you're only getting 10% an hour, then you're missing an extreme amount of gear and must not be capable of one shotting the mobs. If you need carries just ask, reset happens Wednesday, I could give you CRA or Lomien carries if you need them. (that is, if you're a reboot player. Sorry if you're a reg server player, can't help.) On totem at 226 most people train on OS2 in Lach, just an FYI if you're not training there. Off totem probably the same map, but I'd have to look up KMS guides to see where they train at 226, since KMS doesn't have totems.
I remember hitting my breaking point when my progression got locked by gear requirements. Why would I spend two weeks killing the same bosses once a day for gear that would be obsolete 20 levels later?
Apologies for the rant, just kept typing lmao, good video.
access to more skills and they are very flashy skills, more mobs, solo progression is an option, no more paywalls with reboot server, and still a very grindy game. maplestory is by far way better nowadays. i cant get over the fact reboot is a thing.. total game changer for a peasant like me lol. you dont even have to pay for a pet... unless you want the vac pet ofc.
you summarized exactly how I feel about this game at the moment. old returning player like yourself
@@jessemoe727 the game itself has become objectively better gameplaywise, but it completely ditches what was a simple(even if unbalanced) and easier to understand experience
as a reg server player I wish they just merged every world together, playerbase isn't big enough to sustain at this point.
Choosing to play maple in 2022 is like choosing to go home with a stranger offfering candy instead of taking the bus home
That literally makes no sense. Y’all just be out here tryin so hard to make a memorable analogy lol.

Maple is it's own game now, nothing compared to the game it was in 2011, it's perfect as it is, and king of it's own genre.
playing Maple is like being kidnapped and bribed with drugs.. you can go home whenever you want to, but it's too hard to resist.
so many times, when I'm ready to stop playing... a rune spawns, a daily mission arrives, an elite monster appears.

MapleStory was my favorite game for years, and I still have days when I want to go back, except I know it's a shell of its former glory. RIP.
Real good memories, back before... how it is now.
bro this game used to be my favorite game , OST the PQ talking to new people making new friends farming for mesos because you only have like 20k mesos , traveling find new places all this just masterpiece i hope someday maplestory will be how it used to be with new updates & new pq .
and then wake up
The one thing that made me quit was there were too many story lines thrown in your face all at once.
I remember when 4th job was dropped in gms. Damn I miss being a clueless kid lol
i don't mind it being a solo grindfest as i don't have time to waste on party quests and stuff like 20 years ago, but the damn game feels like it is on life support, the news aren't loading, i tried the Cadena class and it fails to load a youtube video (seriously?), things are laggy or messy in some way, i will give it a try just for nostalgia sake.

What was it 2006 when gms released and the level cap was 200. It's 2022 rn. And 300 lvl cap. Seems right.
One of the key things for me burning out again, is that once you hit level 200 there is no variety for leveling…it’s literally one pathway for grinding with no variety. I find I get to Morass or Arcana and get bored with the journey and quit again
hello mmo players! Heres a trailer for our new content! that you wont experience until you are 260+ !!!

I also don't like playin aran, but the combo orbs are good for grinding, I just haven't found the patience to grind it to 210.
i missed the simpleness of it all. Old Maplestory we miss you... please come back..

I liked Ms2, there's dozens of us!
I should’ve expanded on that,
The end game consists of the following things:
Bossing while holding 1 key and letting your pet do the rest
Farming while holding 1 key and letting your pet do the rest
Not playing the game but paying for leech since leveling up was the process mentioned above
Lastly, Without HP washing some classes were unplayable in the late game.

Especially since majority of the players are in the early-mid 20’s, people need faster progression since we’re not young anymore who didn’t have to worry about adulthood back then 😭
And MapleStory was always P2W even before pre-BB.

I’m playing Phoenix rn and the server is amazing for people who want to experience the old gameplay
star force is literally Gandalf on mega steroid destroying any new players with "YOU SHALL NOT PASS"
Also Reboot is very very Social oriented(complete solo progression is for the hard cores, 90% of players rely of guilds/party’s to progress)
But I’m not gonna say I blame people for feeling this way, old maple was something special and I bet wanting to play that and seeing whatever the hell modern maple is, is jarring as fuck.
The socialization was better, but that was the same in every game (wow, runescape, etc.)

i remember when i got back into the game, i skipped a huge chunk of the tutorial; just for the game to softlock and i had to redo my character. let's just say i've never touched This game sense.
Great video btw I loved it

Hi, just a question:
Why can we be happy about Maple Story 2 being closed?
I actually tried playing MapleStory again 2 weeks ago and there was just no one there to talk to
It felt so empty, and there was a bunch of redundant quests and dungeons and bosses which felt so weird to me because it’s just wasted
I quit after 1 day because I wasn’t looking forward to a mindless grind without any friends
I guess it’s a decent game you can play 1-3 hrs and then get on with your life as it doesn’t absorb too much of your life
It sucks that we lack in players so the market can be a pain, but yeah, not fighting for a map is really nice in Elysium.
i didn't even know Elysium was considered dead, i started playing before the merge though, in Zenith 🤔
Look ma it's me! 2:39 (TobenHasAGun).
I play the game very actively and will say. It's absolutely terrible and I would never recommend it to anyone...yet
Positive: It has a really fun gameplay loop (I enjoy the zen grind of killing mobs over and over with flashy skills and despite how it feels it's still 50x better than original maplestory even at 250+ unbelievably.
Being a 2005 player, I was used to grinding 8h per level at merely lvl60, so it’s still walk in the park for me.😂
So far, I hit 250 in 3 months and 6k legion, fresh account.
But I can definitely say not many new players would want to put up with that
Damn, it took me 6 months to reach level 60
HPQ, KPQ, CPQ, LPQ, EPQ, OPQ, LMPQ
Don't know how the madlads reach way past it to reach the leech levels
Went back to play for nostalgia - really valid points here. Don't know how long I'll keep it up.
Not sure why but I never did go back to the game after that.
lucky
not to mention how weird bossing is, i'd rather just buy the gear i need instead of waste hours and meso trying to obtain/strengthen it
heck, you gotta have someone carry you most of the time in reboot lol
i actually enjoyed MS2, i loved the customization and especially the exploration, sort of brought back that feel of playing MS1 for the first time (albeit i only started MapleStory when Phantom first released)
i wish i was around for classic maple, i bet Nexon would make mad $$$ if they brought back a classic server too, quite sad :p
> heck, you gotta have someone carry you most of the time in reboot lol
You don't, but it does speed up progression so massively that it's generally worth while to be carried.
Best game everrrrr
Ya could someday do a FusionFall vid If you like the game
Oh, the free market back when I first discovered it, I honestly thought that place was a market to get free stuff but damn the name of that place got me back
When I was new to maplestory.
Phoenix is pretty great
i quit in like 2017 and never came back only playing a few private servers since 2020
main reason for never going back was arcane symbols and now theres even a new set of symbols T_T makes it really hard to compete as new account coming back, also too late to go for high exp leaderboards since i didnt have an account when they increased it from 275 to 300
yes yes FOOKING YES 100%!
Good luck with your channel
329 salty P2W whales that have no life have disliked this video.
People are 100% nostalgia driven with old school maple. The maple that is today is much better. All you have to do is join a guild and you'll see that the community sense is very much still there.
Same when people make statements of 'it used to take hours to get to level 30'
Well buddy, try grinding over 250.
Maplestory needs to do what WoW did with the "classic" thing and release the game like brand new.
i believe there still is a sense of community within the maplestory today. its no where like it was back in 2009-2012 era but if you find a cool, supporting guild, it can still be a fun game. there was never any pressure to swipe regardless of how hard bosses are. progression is always up to the player. there are some gating aspects to the game like certain content being unlocked at 250,260,265,270 but its not necessary to have fun with the game. it sounds like you had a hard time finding a solid group or guild to play the game with instead of your friend that picked up and dropped the game within the hour because of the “unskippable” tutorial/walkthrough (which are skippable for some classes)
@@unbiasedtruth3413 Very underrated comment. Good
I play maplestory 2 but never play maplestory 1, once maplestory 2 closed, nexon made gifts for the players who went to ms1 after the closure but my friends from ms2 left after a week because the game was more aggressive in progress, compared to ms2 which was almost giving things away , even ms1 veterans asked ms2 fans not to play the game because of the high farming it has unless you play in rebbot, I never played ms1 and now I realize that I shouldn't do it
i somewhat agree with all of this, but smth they could do is they can just... bring back sengoku? bring back ghost exorcist? bring back dark lords? permanent totem? hmmmm? sorry did you say you havent played during big events like pink bean x yeti to get the bis title? too bad, sorry but you can get the monster park title... after 11 weeks of doing a annoying daily... 7 times, yes, 3-4 months of playing for 15 minutes at a time every day to get a title, or smth
dont forget current endgame which is grinding the same map for over a month to gain a single level
I wasted so many hours on this game I could have been a scientist
Hi Greed,
I respect freedom of speech, and this video is a good example of that.
It's like playing League of Legends and saying it's shit because it's not like
Dota 2.
Cheers!
-FriedCats.
Thank you for saying it
Big agree, although bossing in reboot is way more fun than before pq's, and that can be done with parties
@@takejisan808z Exactly. There's certainly a good amount of party play in Maplestory nowadays.
(CPQ, Mid/late game bosses and even old PQ's for achievements.) The game was a great social hub before because, we didn't have Discord or Whatsapp. Now Maplestory has become an actual game rather than an enhanced chat box.
i miss maplestory so much but i will never go back to play it :(
And now this company demands that people go to jail for making a private server and they threaten to sue Discord for refusing to give personal user info
Still wish it had kept going though since the art style was so cute
same, played it until the shutdown announcement.
loved the Thief class
At least it's not the playerbase rejecting new players like SpaceStation13
"that were objectively better" xDDDDDDD i expected something more... dramatic, that maplestory ruled them all, but no xDDD
Adding to that, Reboot has the best communities and reg servers are relics of the past filled with people who can't move on.
@@roymarthkirby428 i just accidentally made my characters on my more recent-ish account on a reg server and then regretted it when reboot got massive so now i've gone deep into the sunk cost fallacy

But I loved Maplestory 2. With a passion. It is still the only game I have ever smiled 100% of the time just by going to the log in screen. For context however, I never got to play MS1, and I played MS2 on NA rather than KR. Regardless, there has never been a sadder ending for a game for me...
as someone who has played maplestory 1 on and off for about 8 years i gotta say that maplestory 2 was a really fun casual experience with alot that it did right and i found enjoyable to play through. it felt like i just couldn't stop until suddenly i hit the level cap and was looking for anything left to do(never got those super OP weapons that i assume you do have to grind for though)
wish it could've stayed around... i have a friend who doesn't like grindy games but he totally coulda play maple 2 with me it was so much more casual and fun than the usual mmo
it was run by idiots who didnt know how the game works. they did ms2 very dirty
if you’re new to maple in 2022 onwards you actually deserve to have a hard time what the hell were you doing with your life before
I cannot agree more with the fact that there are too many fucking classes
Maplestory 2 was actually fun though
Fr it was a step up. Too bad the support for it was non-existent because Nexon can never commit to a single gaming experience.
when it comes to the content and the presentation i'd say that maplestory is going nutty atm, but the community aspect is certainly stretched thin due to the sheer size of the game and generally unfriendly levels of grinding to get anywhere past lvl 200 causing it to be a little hard to find anybody to talk to and do stuff with
i'm level 226 and i already feel like i've sweated when i know that every 10 levels in arcane river requires like way more xp per level than the last so i'm probably still in the baby range

On totem at 226 most people train on OS2 in Lach, just an FYI if you're not training there.
Off totem probably the same map, but I'd have to look up KMS guides to see where they train at 226, since KMS doesn't have totems.
Hey I like your ideas. Don’t limit yourself to only talking about maple story. I think your channel would do well if you reviewed other games too
Private servers baby! v62 and v83 are the good versions of the game.
I remember hitting my breaking point when my progression got locked by gear requirements. Why would I spend two weeks killing the same bosses once a day for gear that would be obsolete 20 levels later?
