your thorough explanations of the different lines available to you and your decision making is very much appreciated. i wish your approach was more common in the MTG sphere
Tried this deck vs the Traditional Ladder. Ran into a lot of Rakdos Midrange and Azorius Control. Unfortunately Fable of the Mirrorbreaker is a bit too strong and Siege Rhino is a bit too fair.
in bo1? languish seems like it would completely hose rakdos midrange if used at the right time, I don't think my deck has a creature that's bigger than 4/4. In bo3 rakdos will just sideboard in 8 discard but seems good in bo1.
@@dac2007 Kroxa isn't even the thing that gets you in that matchup, it's Fable of the mirrorbreaker making too many treasures and redrawing them two cards that gets you. The only thing that can answer it almost cleanly is Knight of Autumn, but they still get the treasure
@@hykoru193 The problem with Rakdos is they pressure your life total while grinding out value at the same time and none of your removal is a clean answer except for your sweeper which costs 4 mana and doesn't answer hive/kroxa/Fable/planeswalkers. You can probably get a 2-for-1 every time you sweep, but you have to hope they didn't grind out enough value before and after. So your plan is to save removal for Fable of the Mirrorbreaker, hold off the other creatures with a 5 toughness Rhino, and hope it survives for more than 1 turn. If you can do that, you finally get an opportunity to turn around and pressure their planeswalkers.
If there is no target for Michiko's Reign of Truth the other player is forced to pump your creature. Just something to remember when you are playing the card or playing against it.
I'm honestly of the opinion it needs to be banned. Turn 1 discard anything but a land and see what your opponent has and plot around it all for 1 black mana is just an egregious offense of a card.
It's essentially blacks version kf a Counterspell Black can't interact with artifact or enchantments so it needs to snipe them before they're on the stack or in play
I hate MtG arena. I’ve been playing paper since 95/96. You make arena look (I don’t want to say it but fine!) bearable. You are the only arena content I’ll watch.
At 6:55 is there an argument for attacking with the trespasser so that opponent either takes 3 or they gain 3 life but you kill an extra zombie with languish?
Is this Pioneer legal? im not sure but i think i have this whole deck in paper. ill have to look when i get home i might be missing a couple lands at most. This looks awesome! Abzan has always been my favorite! Good job bud!
Match 2 around 17:40 couldn't you have not cracked the clue and then cast meathook for 1 (after assigning damage to creatures so they have 1 hp). This way you would keep your creature land as later threat and heartless act to answer cave of the frost dragon. Also there would be some possibly relevant life gain from meathook In hindsight, this would also allow for a languish to clear through the collected company Edit: I now understand that damage assignment does not work this way. However, it might still have been benefitial to not crack the clue and wipe the board with a meathook massacre for 2. This way 2 hp is gained, cave and tokens attack for 5 (-3 total). Then hive could attack, languish could clear collected company and heartless act deals with cave. This is probably too speculatory though to consider during play.
@@joaquintristan4373 No, what LVD frequently does is to not assign lethal damage to a second blocker, e.g. if your 3/3 is blocked by a random 1/1 and a Shambling Ghast, you can choose not to kill one of the creatures, thus keeping your 3/3 alive.
@@MondSemmel This is correct, I misunderstood the rules. A creature without keywords needs to assign lethal damage to each preceding blocker before moving down the order of announced blocks as per rule 510.1c
Wow, that's a LOT of (mostly) creature-based removal. Like, is the format really that heavy on aggrodecks? I honestly don't know much about Explorer and the current meta, but that seems almost excessive.
Angels, Goblins, elves and Boros Heroic are all creature heavy decks, and they are also some of the most popular decks in the ladder , you barely see midrange or control in comparison
Depends on if you are a best of one or best of three player. You'll get ground down by all the Rakdos Midrange and Azorius Control if you try to best of three with this deck. Best to just stick with best of one.

The Rhino is not as good as the removal tribal built around it. I really hate this deck. If you like playing linear fair creature decks vs. this one... forget it. Direct train to salt city.
"Siege Rhino?" *takes long drag of a cig* "Havn't heard that name in years..."

Isn't all the removal in this deck more than enough to deal with Rakdos threats? Plus you have exile GY for Kroxa

I can always tell when a new LVD video is out by the influx of new opponent decks into the queue.
The only UA-cam channel I follow. Quality and quantity of videos. Thank you for your time 😘
I appreciate that you show the other cards you are talking about instead of assuming that we know all the cards by name.
Siege Rino always stays a good card nostalgic of Tarkir standard great video
When Abzan Aggro was king! i miss those days

Good point!
There is nothing in Mtg quite like getting some Siege Rhinos in play. What a card
YES! Abzan again! Dream coming true for me! lol Thanks Legend
Earliest I’ve been. Stuck at home with Covid so excited to have something new to watch! Thanks for being so consistent
love the deck. wasn't around for the siege rhino era so it's nice to use it these days.
You’d run Roast in the sideboard of red aggro to get it off the board but the drain 3 was pretty back breaking
Didn't get the flavour of Graveyard Trespasser till you said "virtuoso in the graveyard for trespasser to snack on"

@LegenVD may be it's better to swap one push and act for 2 abzan mythos?
I think I would like to see a Sorin, maybe in place of an Emperor or sweeper, but otherwise love the list!
Sorin was definitely on the shortlist!
Will you be recording/uploading a video of a Gladiator brew when the community spotlight queue comes? That would be really cool

I would have to double check the rules, but I don't believe you can put damage on a 2nd blocker until the first blocker has at least lethal damage.
