I'm an Australian with 2 Italian parents and 4 Italian grandparents, all from the Veneto region, and both grandfather's fought in WW2...... I cannot say that I had ever heard of Bella ciao until I watched the money heist series recently, but the song definitely resonates with myself... So I went to my parents tonight and asked them if they had ever heard nonno singing the song around the house.... My father asks me to play him the song, and before I could start, he started singing the first line.... he said ihis mother used to sing it to him at bedtime.....we both had a goosebumps moment at the same moment and now I know why this song resonates with me so much

Just to clarify, even as a non italian, people should know the true meaning behind this song. I’m danish, and I always grew up listening to bella ciao from a very young age. Bella ciao is an italian song, which became the anthem of the anti facism movement. It was especially popular with the partisans. Bella Ciao means “goodbye beautiful” in italian. So for gods sake, don’t go around crediting La Casa De Papel for Bella Ciao, know the true meaning and history behind it.
Actually i can’t believe that most of the people who know this song is because of a netflix show (i actually really like it) but bella ciao is what people call “a war song” or a song singed by soldiers or during times of war specially when the Italian resistance fought against the facists and nazis

I believe that it can be used in the context of another Resistance for social justice, and I think that a show does a good job in promoting this fact. The sad part is that the meaning and the lyrics don't get as much recognition as its "catchy tune" and "upbeat rhythm". I couldn't tell you if Money Heist does a good job, I haven't seen it. I just hope it does.

As an italian myself i deeply hate the fact that you missed out to say that this song is the manifesto of the communist movement here in Italy. There were 2 fronts back then: the fascists and the communists. Fighting against the fascists meant that you were communist. Because there weren't any other movements. Thousands of people got tortured in the nazi camps here in Italy to defend our freedom and Oh bella ciao represents all of those who sacrificed their lives for us! My grandfather's sister was shot in her head in front of her family in the main square because she was a partigiana when she was only 15. Her family never recovered and it's the same story for the most of our grandparents who weren't fascists. So let me be honest the last minutes of this video are deeply disrespectful because of the blood that was spilled. It's not a party song. People were tortured and burnt alive for this song.
I think the maker doesn't have any idea about the actual threshold of the plight and torture, that's why he was not being able to interpret it correctly.

My Sicilian great father in law was born in Italy and taught this song to all children and grand children. My husband taught me and we play it all the time for daughters, especially if one is going on a trip or has important day ahead of them, as means of good luck. This is something fascist usually said, and something Who didn’t study history said because they heard it. but absolutely is not true. During nazi occupation in Italy and the mussolini’s dictature the resistence was joined by different people, different ideology. There were comunist, repubblican, Christian, some people Who don’t follow any particular parties and other. So, yes. Comunist people sang it during resistance with their fellow but they weren’t lonely. Now, italian communist (they are not many, but they are, in Italy is not illegal to be comunist) sing this song during manifestation. With many other people. Because this is a song of hope for a better future, a song of resistence for the freedom, a song agaist dictature, racism, homophobia. So yes. I sing bella ciao, one of the most important song of my Italian history, and I cry everytime, cause this song move something in us. hope you understand the importance of this song.

Every time I hear Bella Ciao in the show I get chills. It is really interesting that it could be used in so many contexts. As a song of happiness, a song of family spirit, of battle and of course grief and sympathy.
