I love this - gave me goosebumps. My best friend growing up in Australia was Italian and I know what they are like and they are lovely, warm, generous people with big hearts! Americans (like me) need also to grasp that defeating fascism is each person's responsibility, and that fascism isn't necessarily foreign. Italians and Germans get that very well, but we in the US learn a simplified version of WWII in which the each nation was either fascist or not, and the sides had already been chosen up. Maybe this would be a good time Americans with immigrant ancestors to see if they (living or dead), and/or their modern descendants, have some insights we could use.

They use the former to argue against the latter.
