Good review. I have a little over 1,000 hours in each game and I think you did a good job. Some suggestions would be: S44 has (much) larger maps, as a result the world is generally less detail to compensate. The larger maps are more realistic and allow the player to experience actual engagement distances of WW2, whereas HLL is more of a compressed experience. The iron sights are completely adjustable in S44. S44 sets the bar for sound design not just WW2 milsims, but the entire gaming industry imho. It's absolutely superb. One of the biggest differences between the games is you can't always get the kit you want in S44, it's essentially a race at the beginning to get it (similar to HLL) but there are far fewer since you're forced into an actual accurate squad position dynamic, where ~70% of players are using bolt actions compared to HLL where it's considerably less, probably closer to 20-30%. And lastly, there is a _lot_ more to do in S44 than HLL. It has a lot more content. Logistic squads can build entire bases. You can build emplacements, bunkers, you can build 88's, Flak 34's, 20mm's, MG emplacements, multiple AT guns, mortars, etc.
I play mostly armor in both games and like you mentioned the difference between the two is almost a waste of time to compare them. The tank driving in HLL is nothing short of terrible. The gear changing is just simulated, the RPM of the engine means nothing (it's just a bs gauge that goes up), the whole "feel" of the engine is non existent. The turning is silly and hard to control at times, and the speeds of the armor are all artificially slow to compensate for the smaller more compressed maps. Maps clip some obstructions and not others (it isn't consistent between the maps) the tank will get stuck occasionally and must be abandoned (you can't reset it at all). The hit registration in HLL between armor sometimes feels RNG even for experienced players. Sometimes I feel like it's just using a random probability if a round penetrates or not. It's still a mystery to me with 1,000 hours in a tank and way over level 10 commander. The angle of armor, location, etc. is almost pointless. It's front and rear and the rest is just random. In S44 the engine responds exactly how you expect, the tanks have the proper gear count (both F and R), the tanks have the proper ammunition for the model and year, they have the proper optics, cupola glass, you can open the hatch and look out, the tanks move at the correct speeds, etc. HLL has about 2-3 tanks per faction, S44 has 15-30 per faction. Again, there's just no comparison. The tank audio in S44 is superb, the handling, everything. I could go on for hours. Suffice to say if you want to know what it was like to operate a tank in WW2 there is _no_ game out there that scratches S44. The engagement distances are accurate (sometimes firing a mile away, for instance). The tactics and movement are correct, camouflage on tanks works, etc.
As far as the visual differences, this gets a little tricky. S44 has the best particle effects you will ever see in a game, it is nothing short of incredible. The lighting effects in S44 are also better than HLL. I feel HLL has a smoother more polished feel to it, and the levels are more detailed in the micro. S44 is updating the maps and it's blurring the line even more. I will say when I compare to two in my head, I feel like S44 is a more accurate depiction of WW2 combat, and HLL is more hollywood and condensed.

squad 44 is 100% my choice the only issue i have with it is the textures. in honest i think squad 44 looks better than HLL. HLL is far to bright and the general design of the game seems a bit cartoony, but when you get close to things in squad 44 they are all very flat and dull. HLL has brick buildings that look very great while most buildings in 44 are just flat painted walls, as well as general level design, the maps just play and are designed better. Other than that like he said Squad 44 is a much more hardcore game which is why i love it so much, id say its way more immersive and requires you to think way more about what you do to take an objective compared to HLL and the tank combat in it is just perfect. Its probably the best tank combat in any game that isnt soley devoted to just tank combat if that makes sense.

Squad 44/post scriptum is by far the better mire polished game.
Be aware that i may use bith names interchangeably since ive put so much time into the game before the name change its a bit difficult to get used to the new name at times
Gameplay: the movement is a lot more fluid, more intuitve, and just feels less clunky.
Weapon handling is much better and weapons dont feel like your playing goldeneye N64 edition.
Tanks actually work. They are playable and fun, since destroying tanks isnt based on a healthbar but on the damage roubds do as they interact with the armorm a non penetrating hit can still cause spalling, a riccochet can cause the round to break up and the armor to chip off, injuring or killing infantry. Shaped charges shoot an actual jet through the armor so placememt is key if you dont want it to blow through a part of the tank with nothing behind it.
Sound: sound is just plain perfect. Having been on the recieving end of artillery in real life, that is the only thing that doesnt aound excatly like in real life, but everything else does. From tanks, to rifles to machine guns. From the crcakle of rounds passing. Nothing will ever beat this games sound design.
This video doesnt do it justice, as it seems the capture program he used on pc is subpar at capturing sound
Graphics: now this one may seem counter intuitive. Hell let lose looks a lot better.... From a distance. The ambient occlusion makes it look better at a glance, but if you look closer youll find a lot of low poly and low res models and textures, even worse than in post scriptum.
Weapons: besides the sounds mentioned earlier, hell let lose features hit scan, no matter the distance, if you left click, an enemy inline with the barrel will die instantly. You do not need to lead a target, and it feels super unrewarding to basically have a laser gun. Post scriptum features ballistics what else do i need to say?
Teamplay: Teamplay is a lot more important in post scriptum and vital if you want to win. You dont always need to communicate but you should at least listen to your squad leader so your swuad can place rally points and such to shorten the walking distances.
Im pretty sure the main reason for hell let lose being so succesful with post scriptum having rather few players, is that hell let lose is on console, and that besides arma Reforger its the only sort of milsimesque game on console.
It also appeals more to the battlefield and call of duty crowd, a bunch of solo running around, feeling like rambo, sniping people at 1200meters with ease using Hollywood logic when it comes to weapon handling and physics.
The next point is marketing. Periscope games never did a lot of marketing, before they fell apart, offworld Entertainment is now thankfully fixing that mistake at least somewhat.
So id recommend squad 44 over HLL ANY day of the week.

A totally biased opinion. Squad44 may be more re hardcore but overall HLL is the more polished and visually appealing game. Forget the console gamers and compare the two games on Steam. There's a reason why HLL has far more positive reviews than Squad44 even though it came out 3 years after! 81k compared to 16k. There's a reason why HLL has a larger player base. There's a reason why HLL is above Squad44 in rankings. The numbers don't lie. 🤷

@@IndigoJoe28 the reasons why there are some negative reviews for the then called "Post Scriptum" were because they were almost always focused on the low player count, creating a vicious cycle leading to less player count. HLL is going downhill atm and S44 only looks to be improving, with even a Japanese faction coming. Call of Duty WW2 V2 will always interest a larger audience and this player disparity between them mostly revolves around this, not how well the games are made. S44 will eventually grow its player base, but it will always be handicapped by the plethora of backseat gamers.

HLL has a massive problem with communication. A lot of criticism has been placed on the new developers, and rightfully so, but that isn't what is killing the game. What's killing the game is that: Nobody. F***ing. Speaks.
I can't stress enough how important it is for a game like this, as I'm sure you know, but even basic communication is missing. Enhancing immersion and liveliness aside, it is a HUGE catalyst for so many headaches.
      1. Zero coordination. Team/Squad is all over the place.
      2. No call-outs. Prepare to die constantly to things you don't see. It's also incredibly easy to ping targets, so there is really no excuse. It is especially infuriating for Armour squads. There's a big f***ing enemy tank, sat in the same spot for 5-10 minutes, and it would've been very advantageous to know that information as you roll to the frontline.
      3. Lack of spawn points. Prepare to be met with deathly silence as you request someone to play the Support class and help you set up a garrison for the team.
      4. Getting rolled. Games are often so one sided. This is because the majority of people want to push and attack. You will finally hear a SL, often a part of the attack, talk in the command
channel "umm... we're losing X." By which point it's 50% taken, your garrison has gone down, so there is no way of saving it. How is it that a guy checking the map, miles away, is the one to call that out? All it would've taken is ONE person on the defensive objective saying to his SL "there are a ton of enemies approaching from the north/south/east/west" which can then be relayed to command. Again though, the few times this may actually happen, nobody will listen or volunteer to fall back.
I honestly could go on and on. Communication is so essential to enjoy a game like this, and nobody does it. I don't even do it anymore. Who wants to speak up, get ignored, and feel like a twat? I'll join server after server, trying multiple squads and probe with a "hello hello" and nothing. Nada. Silence. MAYBE one or two people say hi back, but you'll find that is the only correspondance.

For me to main difference that made me choose between these games is the ticket system. I left Squad (not 44) to HLL because of the boring ticket system, forcing you to wait a doctor FOR MINUTES when you're down. The second i tried HLL and it's capture point system instead of ticket, i never went back to Squad again. So when i tried Squad 44 and saw there was the same horrible ticket system, all squad 44 good points were instantly erased, and i uninstalled it after 2 games. Hope one day they'll change that, so i could play it again.

Yeah that’s fair enough. I know not everyone is a fan of the ticket system and I understand why. Personally I do like it, I think it makes you try to play your life more and think more before just running and gunning.
Then again, it’s nice on HLL that once you’re downed you can immediately respawn and get back in the fight without any consequences for your team

    • @kevinp5325
      @kevinp5325 12 днів тому

The ticket system is arguably the reason why Squad 44 is played in a much more realistic manner compared to HLL - a player with limited lives is more apt to be cautious and deliberate in fire and maneuver. I've played HLL, in addition to Squad 44; the player base just seems a lot more casual in terms of tactics and on-map behavior, which is totally fine if someone prefers that. The people who gravitate towards Squad 44 are the same who gravitate towards Arma and regular Squad - they're after greater levels of teamwork and immersion, which exists in spades with Squad 44.

i've had both for a while but play HLL much more. Squad is a bit too hardcore for me and needs a lot of fleshing out i feel. Biggest problem with squad44 is that it has very few well populated servers.

Agreed mate, SQ44 is definitely the more hardcore of the two. I must admit I played when it was post scriptum and I thought it didn’t even compare to HLL that I was used to, since the new devs have taken over I’ve noticed massive graphic and audio changes, smoother gameplay and a growing player base! Let’s hope they keep it up, thanks for watching!

Well, i have both games since a while so i would like to let here opinion if it is useful to somebody. Both games are really good games, Hell Let Loose has better graphics and Squad 44 has better gun play, sounds, etc. I have played way more hell let loose as the perfomance in Squad 44 is trash and that is what It kept me away from it many times, for what i heard i just uses 1 nucleus(or whatever it is called to run It) so apart from Hell Let Loose being way better optimised than Squad 44 i think that It is more suittable for begginers than Squad 44 as well. Armored gameplay is stunning on Squad 44 thought.

After 1000 hours in Hell let loose and only 37 hours in squad 44 id say squad 44 I've had more fun in squad 44 in the 37 hours than the 1000 hours in HLL. Hell let loose is plain and repetitive. Hell let loose its pretty much every man for himself

Squad 44: Has 16 servers, excluding those that are locked for clans. Out of the 16, there are on average ~2-5 servers that are full with 5-15+ waiting in queue, lest we forget taking region into account due to high pings. After all is said and done, I am left with around ~4 playable servers (based in US) with over 15+ waiting in queue. That is simply irrational. Why would anyone wait for those queue times. Daily average of S44 has under 1K active players at best. Lot's of updates. Fails to grasp the reigns when it comes to captivating the HLL community and onboarding their player base. Game has potential, but nah.
HLL: Many servers. Over 5K daily active players. Will go down in history as one of the top 10 if not 5 WW2 shooters in FPS. Shorter wait times if any and typically under 5 people. Jump in and play. Very accessible, but hardcore game. Be challenged or stay challenged. Shit development studio. Lack of updates. Like, really there have been no proper updates since T17 took over. Neglects community feedback, seldom hitting the mark.

Squad44 may be more hardcore, have more in depth vehicle gameplay, better audio, but that's about it. HLL is the more polished and visually appealing game. Forget the console gamers and compare the two games on Steam. There's a reason why HLL has far more positive reviews than Squad44 even though it came out 3 years after! 81k compared to 16k. There's a reason why HLL has a far larger player base. There's a reason why HLL is above Squad44 in rankings. The numbers don't lie. Not to mention Squad have the flawed ticket system. This puts an emphasis on getting kills and can ruin battles and the need to push for points. Not fun. HLL focuses more on territory and team cooperation. Not kills.

Squad '44 is the worst War game iv ever tried. it's even worse than before and i was in game a few sec and uninstalled it so so bad! an awful experiacne of a game removed instantly.
it's so just bad, from loading menus, bad menus terriable Ui worst map ever created in any game, stuff loadding and rendering in so bad, awful controls and customiszation, infantry sucks, movement, gunplay etc its endles. its clear to see wh ui never got into this, will never get into this game, and why it died and was rebranded from Post Scriptum to Squad 44. some people enjoy poorly made game and a small few enough this poorly made game but its a poorly made game, that is No Fun to play, unless you like poorly built games that are not fun to play. the very low player numbers also prove that point and it's not got lower player numbers Cos its "a Niche Game" that's (Bs block anyone saying Niche game they are an idiot or fan boy it's got low player numbers cos it Sucks! and that the the bottom line and not just my opinion, it's the popular opinion, low player numbers prove beoynd any doubt or argument.

Thanks for your opinion. I too downloaded squad 44 when it was officially post scriptum and agree that it was in dire need of some work, I uninstalled after a couple of hours and thought I would never install it again.
I will say that since OWI has taken over who of course are the same devs for squad it has drastically improved.
It’s by no means the finished article but if OWI continue putting the work they have done so far into it I see it becoming very popular. The player base is growing day by day which I think speaks volumes.
I’m excited to see if the devs can turn it around and convince others that may have given up on it that it’s a great game and only getting better.

    • @JohnnyLAW
      @JohnnyLAW 3 місяці тому +7

Crazy how you are able to form such an opinion on the gameplay and mechanics of the game when you were "only in game a few sec and uninstalled it". I have a fair amount of hours in both HLL and Squad44 and I will absolutely say Squad44 has far more accurate weapon sounds that HLL does. Furthermore the attention to detail in weapons is far greater then that of HLL. HLL does in my opinion win in overall level and map design with a focus on a war torn map rather then Squad44 choice of a bright, prebattle map design. Movement is different for sure but in no way gets blown out of the water by HLL, both are different but neither of them are better than each other. Personally never had an issue with the loading of assets and rendering of maps ever consider this could have been a hardware issue rather than a game issue?. Multiple users have stated HLL is better for poor performance PC's rather than Squad44 and I'm inclined to agree since I started on HLL with a poor PC than made the switch to Squad44 after.
My overall point is you cannot review a game you did not try, you had one bad experience in one round and uninstalled and formed your opinion based on that gameplay. I can't tell you how many games of HLL I have played where I can form that exact opinion.
