That was amazing. I watched it in all. Thank you! I have one that isn't running and one that is. I think I WILL actually tear the broken one down.. It helps to see what to expect.
Happy Birthday Bill! Great vid! I am following the same steps you took to re-fire a 5.5 hp. Honda on a Craftsman mower that has sat for two years although always inside and dry in a garage. It's not worn out because it was only used 1/2 hour a week or so for 4-5 years (I'd doubt it has 50 total hours on it) and never used oil or blew smoke. I suspect a fuel issue given how quickly what we now refer to as gas goes bad and gums things up. Fresh fuel and a new plug sure didn't work though so Thanks for the tips! Honda tips from you or your viewers always welcome...
+tdmfan 750 Ok Dude, just relax. My frikkin mistake. I don't keep up with Birthdays but, when I hear of one, I extend my regards. Bad info, good intent. No insult or whatever you might imagine intended. Bill is an awesome YT producer and I am a loyal follower. End of story....
After 40+ years of my own experience repairing mowers, you would make a great instructor for young people. A moto-tool will clean rusty parts quickly with a sanding disk or wire wheel. You need a neon in-line spark tester too. Very handy. In a bind, use coffee filters as air filters until you can get the right one.
Don't think the rusty magnets would have any negative effect, but a rusted connection between the magneto and the engine block would certainly cause a poor electrical circuit when trying to fire the spark plug.
They say it's your birthday SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Good job on the push mower isn't it a good feeling when at the end you get her running? I liked it! Awesome patience I some times run out of it and have to walk away for a spell.
Disconnect the green wire to eliminate a broken deadman's switch. It may be grounded. This wire is used to stop the engine when grounded when you release the handle. The ignition coil module may be done for.
HI Bill great job of getting the lawn mower going you got the magic touch bud , hey just an idea for you on digging your potatoes , try using the stone bucket you made on the JD 110 you could go into the hills deep and lift and shake the potatoes right out it would beat digging them by hand , just a thought . take care .
when you get the mower up and running good and then have your son help mowing the yard around the house and in areas where the larger one can't get to . I use to mow the Nabors and our yard at the same age as him.
If there's no adjustment on that kill switch cable just unhook the cable, tie a knot in it, and hook it back up. Should take up enough slack to make the handle work properly.
Loved the zap of life electricity, how does it feel to be a spark plug. Then, the pull cord pull out too. Thought I was the only one all these things happened to. Great video.
What about punching a couple holes at the end of the hose to put the hooks from bungee cord/elastic cord and hooking it around the frame of the engine which will hold it in place and also it's quick to take off and put it back
You could use a drill & socket on flywheel before putting rope crank on it to spin flywheel. You didn't show cleaning spark plug contact. In most prime bubble applications, is bubble is bad, it will not let fuel continual flow. Congats on starting it, it's firing pretty clean. All that's left is sharpening the blade. LOL
just a suggestion re the blower pipe problem am sure you can get like a metal band with a closure lever on it and you just slip it onto the pipe put it on the other bit and close the lever then again i may be wrong about this item as described above
bill you might have to attach a string and hook around that pipe to hold it up when you empty your trailor so the weight of that steel pipe dont rip the plastic pipe
If the micro SD card reader supports only USB 2.0, it won't help plugging it into a 3.0 port, it will still be slow like 6MB/s. Oh, and by the way, Bill, you still haven't shown us your new computer!!!
I highly recommend you don't use Breakleen to clean out the plastic gas tank. It's made up of 45% alcohol and the other 55% is Acidone. That a recipient for dissolving plastic
that's what my grandparents always said..however it is not true. nocturnal animals sometimes come out in daytime. research it bro. also, as long as uve had booster shots, humans cannot get rabies..same thing as polio
For farm sim Saturday will you do 3 to 4 hours of farming? I like it when you do a long video. And I understand if you can't since your recording software isn't that good. +billstmaxx
I saw that but really in all honesty will you use it? Or if you do cover it up put it in a shed. Hey Bill at some point when showing a video could you give us a shot of your front porch that you fixed
What the freak Bill???? You have more tools than anyone I know and you don't have a really big screwdriver. Even I have two or three of those. Maybe you can get one for your Birthday...
I share your misery when it comes to the Tecumseh engine. lol I've got a 4hp Tecumseh on a self-propelled push mower. I know exactly what it's like with that dumb primer bulb. lol Since the push mower was lightly used and pretty clean (it sat for years), I just got a new carb off eBay. It wasn't much more than a rebuild kit. It took right off and runs pretty good, although, I rarely use it. It was given to me and I have a better mower I use. I hate self-propelleds. lol
+Robert Perrigo Honda, Kohler and Tecumseh are all good engines. Briggs and Stratton at one point in time used to be fairly decent but now days, they're are junk.
+Robert Perrigo I have a snapper blower with a 4 horse tecumseh from '86 and I like it vs. the Briggs. The throttle and governor lever configuration is simple and easily adjustable. It has a proper manual choke AND a primer bulb. It has an adjustable main jet which is also the float bowl screw.
+Robert Perrigo i have a 4.5hp briggs and stratton Murray mower my parents bought brand new in 2006 its still going today 9 years old now but she still runs good
I first thought that 1h on a lawn mower was too much, but I enjoyed it. Thanks
Super good job. You did good to the old mower. Maybe you can donate it to someone who can put it to good use.
That was amazing. I watched it in all. Thank you! I have one that isn't running and one that is. I think I WILL actually tear the broken one down.. It helps to see what to expect.

+Merlyn Sk for the love of god, IT INS'T HIS BIRTHDAY!!!!

hey here in the USA that saved $150 bucks , nicely done

+doc0455 Well if it's not then it's a belated (or early) birthday wish ;) haha have a good one anyway Bill!

Hey bill on piece of advice is to flush the lawnmower engine with seafoam and it will start like it was brand new
when you get the mower up and running good and then have your son help mowing the yard around the house and in areas where the larger one can't get to . I use to mow the Nabors and our yard at the same age as him.
hey bill try using apple cider vinegar i found it works well and it won't eat the rubber parts.
Considering how old it is and leaving it outside im supprised that coil wasnt dead.
Poor old machine, your a bad lad bill ha ha :-D
+zx8401ztv ya really eh
+BILLSTMAXX :) my dad taught me to use a pocket match book.
those mowers like that push mower you fixed are great for trimming.
If there's no adjustment on that kill switch cable just unhook the cable, tie a knot in it, and hook it back up. Should take up enough slack to make the handle work properly.
older ones are the best, we had one that had no safety and it was light as a feather, you could just throw that thing around
Loved the zap of life electricity, how does it feel to be a spark plug. Then, the pull cord pull out too. Thought I was the only one all these things happened to. Great video.
When you reinstall the coil, you'll need to set the gap between the coil and the flywheel magnet.
bill , maybe silacone the hose to the inside of the pipe and weld a handle on the outside for easy removal .
it was built in january 2001 bill i was a mtd tech here in the states for about 3 years
+dieseltech001 1 ahh so shes a bit old then
What about punching a couple holes at the end of the hose to put the hooks from bungee cord/elastic cord and hooking it around the frame of the engine which will hold it in place and also it's quick to take off and put it back
I like the new camerasettings, nice videoquality.
If the primer bulb is dry-rotted, cracked, etc., then it is sucking air after you push it, not gas.
its the same over here such a throw away society

Thanks that was a good watch
Starts easier than my Briggs & Stratton mower
I have my own lawn mower
It's doesn't take months for the smell to wear off. All you have to do is take a bath in tomato juice.
who the fuck sells that amount of tomato juice ?
+Randy Bobandy tomato farmers
+George me True.
If you come over to where I work on a good year, you'll find enough tomatoes to make that much tomato juice easily.
Donyboy73 reccomends using a regular business card for magneto clearance
+Braden Wuesthoff back in school it was a cigarette card board, ha
you almost tore that whole thing apart but u got it running u are a pretty handy guy u no what u are doing
The carb bowl is up against the block to serve as a preheater for the gas :)
+fillg gas doesnt need to be preheated you idiot
+Mack Thompson I know, that's why I included the little smiley face at the end you idiot.
Happy Birthday!
First video... Why is he outside a grave yard?
We works at a cemetary
What an "anemic" air blower , com' on! How about using a small block to support you emery !Use your noggin' ! Slim !
Good Day Bill
You might need a handle welded on that metal pipe that you adding to the leaf blower hose.
so the thumbs up made it run??????
TAKE IT TO HIGH SCHOOL SHOP CLASS. EVEN BETTER. THEY CAN LEARN WITH IT.
Good job.
ROUND FILE IN ONE SLOT. TIE KNOT IN CORD. WRAP IT AROUND AND PULL CORD.

Oh, and by the way, Bill, you still haven't shown us your new computer!!!
Put some new spark plugs in the push mower!
I highly recommend you don't use Breakleen to clean out the plastic gas tank. It's made up of 45% alcohol and the other 55% is Acidone. That a recipient for dissolving plastic

hay bill why u don't use Dremel to get the rust off it works for me
the stupid test yipes! lol
If you see a skunk in the daytime, it has rabies. Always assume they have rabies and act accordingly!
Interesting!
I never knew that! lol
that's what my grandparents always said..however it is not true. nocturnal animals sometimes come out in daytime. research it bro. also, as long as uve had booster shots, humans cannot get rabies..same thing as polio
well then YOU go ahead and mess with it, i'm not! always assume they have rabies! ! !
ok not hating on you, just saying rabies is much easier to notice in behavior rather than when they decide to roam

Those fox squires are so annoying in the morning.

I knew a women with a stink gland once? When she turned around, run like HELL.
Yuck! Tecumseh engines make good boat anchors . but Tecumseh makes decent trans axles.
+Robert Perrigo Honda, Kohler and Tecumseh are all good engines. Briggs and Stratton at one point in time used to be fairly decent but now days, they're are junk.

All I know is, after many years of wrenching on lawnmowers everyday, I see firsthand the good, the bad & the ugly.
+Robert Perrigo i have a 4.5hp briggs and stratton Murray mower my parents bought brand new in 2006 its still going today 9 years old now but she still runs good
Do you live in a fucking cemetery?! Cause that's what it looks like
