  • Meet Sebastian. He is a young boy with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. His family wants to help me share treatment suggestions to help children like him across the world. My clinic, Child and Family Development, in Charlotte, NC, allowed me to use their facilities and their equipment to showcase Sebastian's skill and charming personality. We review techniques to reduce stiffness, encourage strength and control. I think you'll love spending time with him. Thank you to this family and my clinic for allowing this to happen.
    I also have available 3 children's educational books, "A is for Autism," "D is for Down Syndrome," and "C is for Cerebral Palsy" available on Amazon. I have forthcoming "Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises for the Hips". If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com. Please note: I am unable to provide treatment suggestions for a child I have not personally evaluated.

    This woman is awesome! I am so grateful for all her help. My little one had low muscle tone but with yhe burocracy in medical system it took months to get help and I knew the time was precious. Found this one by pure luck and used all the techniques she showed. Loved it as I did not need any special equipment- just what we already had, i.e toys and furniture. Now she is happily toddling around. Who knows which development stage would she be now if it was not the help from Amy. Thank you so so much. Good luck with your chanel to help more families that need you!🤱👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

Same spelling and everything!! I've only ever met one other girl with the same name but spelled Lyliah.

      N K Yes, when a person has extensor tone I do try to break up that tone by bending at the hip or bending of the knee or bending at the foot. If you Externally rotate the legs in criss cross sit, it often helps to break up the tone/ stffness

    My son used to stiff his legs when we put him on stand or walking.. This also leave legs scissoring while walking...waiting for you to upload something related to it
    Apart from this I only follow you from last 1 year and get noticable improvement in my son... He can now sit, stand by himself holding furniture, walk assisted using afo.. Thanks a ton for everything

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  4 роки тому +1

      Your comments made me so happy. It sounds like your son has done really well. Have you tried whole body vibration. I did do a video on that in my low tone series. Whole body vibration decreases stiffness in legs. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/dF8l0eZ7JMQ/v-deo.html

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  4 роки тому

      Sorry I did not see your message. I am sure the vibration platforms are available. Weight bearing thru the legs in a stander or otherwise, vibration, strengthening and stretching work all help with stiffness. Some clients get tone reduction with warm baths. The vibration should help levels of stiffness in the ankles and the hips. So I have seen it help scissoring. Try stretching the adductors before walking and see if that helps.

    Ty, that's what my granddaughter has and she's making great progress with her PT, but her neck and head need work. She's almost 3 and is about to get her first gate walker we hope before her and her twin sister's birthday in June. They were 28 weeks. her sister is twin a and has Idk how to put it but let's just say she's up there on the autism spectrum and she is nonverbal. The 2 disabilities are extremely difficult to manage and sometimes I'm at a loss for what to do. However this helps with daily work on Olivia's neck control. ty

      I think it is important to find therapists and doctors who are affirming and helpful. Sometimes reaching out to support groups locally can give you recommendations for local therapists and doctors that they recommend. I think that some therapists and doctors may not have the experience or knowledge to recommend things like this. I hope you find this playlist helpful for you. I am wishing you the best.

    Hi there, I am a new graduate of a physical therapist assistant program. And I am currently about to start my first pediatric job in the home health setting. I love all of your videos and I can’t give you enough credit for letting me follow the hard work you’ve put in for others to be able to treat patients to a higher standard. I do have one question, I understand what you’re doing with these patients, but I don’t quite understand how to document what I’m doing for the patient. Is there any resources you can point me to that could potentially help me understand the reasoning behind the documentation for the insurance to not kick it back?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  3 роки тому +1

      Sorry I am just finding your comment. In documentation you need to document what you did, how the client performed the activity, and what you did as a therapist that required therapy level intervention. Your detail needs to be enough that you remember what you did the next session but also enough detail that if another therapist read your note and had to see the client for you that they would know what you did. Hope that helps.

    my 2 month old baby had a brain haemorrhage, this is his 3rd day in NICU and it's still going on to this day. the doctor said that it was likely that he would have cerebral palsy. Can I do this movement after 3 days he has a seizure when he has a fever? I want to do the best for my baby as early as possible so that my baby can be healthy as usual.

      Hi! It is nice to meet you as well. I am so happy that you have found my channel. The things you do when he is young is the most effective in helping him be the very best he can be. I love your dedication. Unfortunately, your child’s medical history sounds fairly complex. It is unethical for me to provide treatment recommendations for a child I did not personally evaluate. I recommend you find a local pediatric physical therapist who can help you. Check around to find out who other people recommend. A good therapist is essential.

    Hi Amy, my name is savanna, I have just subscribed to your channel, I think you are an amazing physical therapist, you do very well, have some questions for you, when it comes to you doing physical therapy with your special needs kiddos. Do you have a Facebook page that I can find you at, and on? I would like to learn about your experience, based on your adaptive ways of getting your special needs kiddos to exercise.
