Thanks for the activation James and everyone else. I was pleased to work you on 40m the other day. I went to East Mersea and West Mersea last summer, it's a nice area. Have you found a pub who does deliveries? 😂 73, Bob. M0BOB.
Unfortunately none of the pizza places would deliver to us for some strange reason. Something about their delivery drivers not wanting to get wet! The closest we could get was "Kevan's Powerboat Deliveries" which could get supplies from the local petrol station if we got desperate but only at certain times of the day, depending on the tides!
Happy to have got this recommended. Guess you all come from a long line of ham-atuers. Was interested as a teenager had a transceiver but never got it working(army surplus). Wish I had. Helped me get a job in telecoms though.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I can't speak for the other guys but there are no other radio amateurs in my family. I'm the first. It's never too late to get started in the hobby if you want to! I got my foundation licence back in 2008, upgraded to intermediate & then full licences shortly after. I ended up taking a break from the hobby for a few years before getting back into it around 5-6 years ago. The process to getting your licence depends which country you are in. Not sure if you live here in the UK but if you are it's pretty simple for us these days:- The study book is available online & the material isn't that difficult. A few safety related bits, a little (very basic) radio theory & a little about the rules & regulations (ie what you can & cannot do). A couple of evenings self-study (literally most people should be able to get through it in 2-3 evenings) before doing a multi-choice exam which is carried out online (costs around £30-£40) & you are good to go. I think it can take a couple of weeks to get an exam slot but potentially you could be up and running within 2-3 weeks if you wanted to. You'll probably want to do the intermediate before too long as the 10 watt limit on the foundation can be a little restrictive & frustrating unless you only ever want to operate 10 watts portable, although the intermediate exam isn't that much of a step up (in terms of difficulty) from the foundation to be perfectly honest.
Fantastic video! Looks like a great place to play radio! Thanks to Chris for directing me to your channel. Subbed 👍

Thanks. It was certainly an interesting experience!
Great location and very interesting. Sorry if I missed it but what was your power source? I believe you were not using the generators?
No generators. We were on batteries. I used a 22ah Ultramax lithium battery.
