For anyone wondering why he captain didn’t sound the horn it’s because they only sound it if the vessel may require assistance. In this case, the ship only had to go back to the nearest port, so no other ships were needed. The captain was also likely to have notified other vessels in the area, in the event of having to abandon ship.
So proud of how RCCL workers handle the situation and hats off to the passengers for staying calm through that situation. I use to work on RCCL ship and I know the crew members go through a lot of training that as you can see paid off.
Thank you for uploading and sharing this video. Its nice to see that people appeared to be calm, even though this was surely an unnerving situation. This is why I will always cruise with RCI.
+Star Mapper It was recorded using a GoPro with the waterproof case on so it didn't pickup sound well. I actually had to boost the sound in editing so you could hear some of the conversations.
+AnimAviation True and especially much better than how the Captain of the Concordia handled the accident. Thats why I am going on the Independence to Cozumel next month actually in less than a month
+Catherine Glick All of these major cruise lines always have a fire on a ship, but Disney have never since except for the disappearance of a crew member, but they're overall the safest in terms of incidents.
jinga roblox disney only has 4 ships where as Carnival and Royal Caribbean have 26 ships each. if Disney somehow got that many ships you would hear of incidents from them. It's mechanics, it's almost guaranteed to happen at some point.
jinga roblox As a person who has sailed Royal Caribbean International 7 times and counting, I can confirm that they have a passenger drill and a crew drill on every cruise on separate days from each other.
did you see the flames at all? I don't think anyone was able to obtain video of the fire itself. when I saw it, looked out my window when the captain told us it was in the aft section of the ship, I saw that it was confined to the port corner of the stern. Tons of fiery smoke billowing out of that area, and then as we watched a rather large explosion - I thought our sliding glass door was going to implode and ducked. Luckily it did not, but after the explosion, the fire seemed to have spread
We didn't end up boarding them. They lowered them, we thought we were going to. But then they lifted them back up and held us in the auditorium because they felt they had the fire under control enough. We stayed here until we departed at an unscheduled emergency stop in Nassau.
QU4YL3Y2K12 the horn is only used to alert other ships around that you will need help. It works like an SOS message. In this case the situation was under control, no backup would be needed
No the horn should sound at the same time as the alarm to warn other ships that you have an emergency and that you MAY require assistance. The passing ship will then wait nearby to help you. It comes under maritime law.
I didn't see the flames. We were on deck 7 not too far back. However, the guy standing with us was on deck 3 aft and said he could see the flames when exiting their room. What level were you on?
It's been so long I forgot where the fire was exactly. I think was on floor 7. It was in the rear of the ship. Someone in the comments linked the report on it before. When we did our muster drill they don't hand you life jackets and have you wear them. But this was my first cruise so I'm not sure if that's the norm. This was also at like 2 am. They lowered the life boats briefly and I was prepared to board them. But after some time they raised them back up. They determined the fire was enough under control to have us remain on the ship until it could make an unscheduled stop in Nassau escorted by the coast guard.
It was definitely the bridge. I have learn't that they have access to all safety controls. The captain can activate all alarms and declare an abandon ship.
The ship left from Baltimore, MD. It took us 2 days to get to Florida. The fire started about 2am the morning after we left Florida for the Bahamas. We never made it to our island, we had to make an unscheduled stop at Freeport, Bahamas to evacuate the ship.
The passengers? We did not end up having to board the life boats. However, we did make an unscheduled stop at Freeport to evacuate the ship. We were flown back to Baltimore from Freeport, our flights were paid for. But they lost a lot of people's luggage.
Robert Graham to get on the ship you had to have some form of ID so I don't think that would of been an issue for anyone. However, some of my stuff got thrown out because I could not bring it on the flight e.g. large shaving cream etc. We were not planning on flying so we didn't pack to. Royal Caribbean reimbursed us in full for the cruise and gave a certificate for the same amount to use on another cruise within 1 year which we ended up using. They also paid for the flights. A big hassle was that the airline lost a lot of people's luggage. They were in an unexpected rush to fly everyone to Baltimore and didn't seem to care if your luggage was on your flight or one that arrived 8 hours later. We had to drive back the next day to find our stuff.
nice way of recording, very steady and clean. just got back from carnival paradise, we lost power in tampa for two hours before living port, but all came back ok, nov i am taking a 14 day one on niew amsterdam, holland america. to many boats out there, of course thing can happen, but is the way you deal with it at the end.
Funny thing is this happened literally less than a month before my first cruise on the Explorer of the Seas. That didn’t stop me from being nervous for going on the cruise I had a great time!
No. we thought we were as they began to lower them but we ended up staying most of the night in the theater room while they fought the fire. Hours later they had it under control and we were allowed to walk around the rest of the ship until we docked in Freeport.
i went on a cruise 2 years ago and the first day, around evening time, some fat lady got sea sick so they had to turn the whole baot around and go back we were eating dinner so everyones plates slid off the table XD I was pissed that we lost a day but it was nice cuz the day we missed was sort of rainy so we were able to sort of skip that day and go scuba diving the next day cuz it was so nice and sunny out if they didn't turn the boat around we wouldn't have had anything to do haha
They normally don't turn the boat around for sea sickness... carnival liberty has a shop where they are sea sickness bands... also that's kinda rude I think to say fat lady
I feel like this video's sound was dimmed. The alarm is much louder than this, and it's weird how not one soul talked or complained.. Compared to Carnival and Costa situations, this was much more.. peaceful.. It's suspicious.
There are elevators and transport blankets to get from the upper floors if needed. As for if they had to load people into the life boats, I'm not sure. I assume crew would assist.
Them people were so ready for that boat sinking they looked so ready they we not panicking god if I was on that boat you would see my saying ITS THE END WERE DEAD GET TO THE CHOPPER wait I mean GET TO THE LIFEBOAT!!!
I don't understand why people risk their lifes for such a stupid prison fun... U r trapped onboard,, just for some food and seeing places for sum hours is like a bad idea, life is at high risk on cruise, u never know wats gonna hapn d next moment.. No one's gonna help u,, even the crew will save their own life first bfr saving others,, just like wat hapnd on Costa Concordia..... Think twice bfr Goin on a cruise... Stupid idea
Concordia was idiotic and careless actions of the master of the vessel and lack of training and direction towards crew members. Working for a cruise line there are all sorts of incidents that not even most crew members are aware that have happened let alone guests. Cruise ships are not a death trap, they have well trained crew members (Well at least the company i work for) that can deal with any situation that arises and 99% of the time you wouldn't even be aware anything has happened. I agree with @exaggerated Stories that have you a better chance of losing your life if your plane was to crash than being very unfortunate to be caught in a Cruise ship evacuation, even then when mustered to assembly stations on a cruise ship you are mainly mustered in case they need to potentially abandon ship. The best life boat you have is the vessel it self and not the life boats / Rafts. Abandoning ship is the upmost last resort and will be very unlikely that you will abandon ship. Cruise Ships have Bravo Response teams that work on a rotation for a on duty team, but in instances like this all teams would be activated to respond to the location. All Bravo response teams are trained in; Fire, grounding, collision, oil/chemical spill and man over board. The equipment they have to use is also most likely better than you would find on land. Every engine room and machinery and electrical space is equipped with HI-FOG, CO2 suppression. They are regularly drilled on different situations on at least a weekly basis if not more.
Depends on the company, the flag of the ship and the nationality of the ship. I know a few companies and flags i wouldnt set my foot on as a passenger or crew member. Good rule of thumb: the countries youd fear to drive in are roughly the same nationalities you wouldnt want to sail under. The more chaotic traffic at home, the more chaotic on the workplace. Most passengerships however have great safety systems. I can guarantee you that you wont find a quicker fire response team in a hotel or mall than you do on a ship. Takes 5 minutes tops until you have smokedivers with firehoses ready to use. The large amount of fireposts ireposts reach anywhere on the ship without a problem. Takes 5 seconds from a fire post being closed to get water shooting out of the nozzle. The crew will not save themselves first, that doesnt happen. In costa concordia it was the Captain and Chief officer who left. I believe it was a senior 1st officer who took over the responsibility on the bridge. The two Italians (hint) are an exception, not a rule.
I don't see an orchestra playing lively music on the deck.
Admit you heard it, while other people did NOT
It´s the "Nearer, My God" that was played on Titanic, i recomend you to listen to André Rieu - Nearer, My God, that verison is so good!
Lols everyone seemed so calm so I think there was no need for it
Causr they were locked in the "poor levels"
Only on the titanic buddy
bet there were people still at the buffet asking for more food

jinga roblox As a person who has sailed Royal Caribbean International 7 times and counting, I can confirm that they have a passenger drill and a crew drill on every cruise on separate days from each other.
They did a great job handling the situation. I was disappointed the trip was cut short because this was our first time on a cruise.
Carnival liked this video
RawTissore Chicken
XD
Retro Junkyard oooh shittt
Hahahaha
Carnival Freedom liked it especially 😂
Everyone was calmer than I expected.
I would definitely go again this was my first cruise and it was cut short. I want to get the full experience.
Have got to says the crew handled every thing extent ly and tendered for every one well done
So happy all is well
I'd never thought this would happen on Royal Caribbean!
Doesn't matter the cruise line. Fire happen anywhere.
Back then all cruise lines kept on having fires
It's supprises me how calm everyone was
Glad everyone just did as they were supposed to do.. Panicking gets you nowhere.. Well done to all of you passengers and the crew.

This happened 9 years ago today. Today is the 9th anniversary of the Grandeur of the Seas fire.
Geez, has it been that long already
@@MarylandDevin yea it doesn’t even feel like it! I remember seeing it on tv like it was yesterday.
When the captain (I'm guessing) activated the alarm, how come you could hear no horn to accompany the bleep?

The Carnival Sensation stood by in the unlikely event they had to abandon ship.
QU4YL3Y2K12 did i sink
No the ship did not sink, it was heavily damaged at the back of the vessel.
This was on Granduer?
There was on Independence of the seas also..
This is very scary..
I’m sure there was an up charge for the extra excitement😂
Ha ha probably
I didn't see the flames. We were on deck 7 not too far back. However, the guy standing with us was on deck 3 aft and said he could see the flames when exiting their room. What level were you on?
Not gonna lie but this looks like a drill to me. Where was the fire? Why weren't y'all boarded onto the lifeboats?
It's been so long I forgot where the fire was exactly. I think was on floor 7. It was in the rear of the ship. Someone in the comments linked the report on it before. Do you know if there were any pets on this cruise and did they get lifejackets to keep them safe?
I know this comment is from a year ago but only approved service animals are allowed on cruises
@@TheDel4873 Good info! What are the emergency protocols for service animals?
@@kevinbowman8259 honestly I’m not sure. That’s a good question though.
This is why I only take White Star Line.
@Aidan Bavinton Oh jeez... It was a joke.. why are you so mad..
what did the elevator look like ?
I can not remember. most ppl took the steps who could.
mk.
good to see everyone was calm and collected and the crew also seemed to be doing the right thing as well
That’s crazy lol
It was for sure! Probably a better story than we would of had if it didn't happen
Must be a very depressing feeling to stand there waiting to see if you will survive the disaster or not.
At least this captain stayed with his ship! And he got all th passengers ready to abandon the ship if need be,,
Instead of "accidentally" sliding down an emergency escape chute into a life raft. :)
This looks to have been handled really well by RCCL!
Was anyone else on this cruise?
This is why i only go on stena line or irish ferries
I guess you are an adrenalin-freak!
Seem like a well drilled crew keeping you where you needed to be. Kudos!
Yeah the crew was great! They even still put on their shows even though no one slept that night
Will you cruise again? I have a cruise coming up on Serenade of the Seas in February, my 3rd with Royal Caribbean. I absolutely love that line.
Serenade was the best :D
Who activated the alarm?
I'm guessing the captain
The team in the bridge, so it was most likely the captain or senior officer
It was definitely the bridge. I have learn't that they have access to all safety controls. The captain can activate all alarms and declare an abandon ship.

I'm trying to recall. I don't think I ever saw any though.

Grandeur of the Seas, we left from Baltimore Harbor

was just wondering.. if theres a fire and everyone is supposed to use the stairs..how do the ppl in wheelchairs get out

good to know :)
the passengers in wheel chairs go to the stairwell and crew members will carry them from there.
did they stay on board
