I have also ridden the S.S. Badger 3 times, a round trip in 2022 and a one-way ride in 2021. It's a great time playing Badger Bingo on the way across Lake Michigan and it's a 4 hour ride. It's expensive but it saved me quite a few hours of driving instead of going around Chicago or across all of the U.P. to get to Duluth. It's truly historic and has great views of Ludington and Manitowoc as it's pulling into each of those Harbors. The trip back to Ludington in the evening will sometimes feature a great sunset view from the back deck as the sun sets in Lake Michigan.
@georgekn3mp sounds like you would recommend. I'd like to do a one way and explore more of northern Michigan. It was so beautiful and we left a lot unexplored. Thanks for the insight!
We are going to have to do that Ferry! Would be a great way to get to Northern Michigan. We left so much more to see. We generally go to a motel. We have done air bb. Great to hear from you!
The Grand Haven lighthouses, all three of them (the outermost building is the South Pierhead Entrance light and it used to be the Foghorn house) are owned by the City of Grand Haven since the Coast Guard deactivated them in 2009. The city owns them now and they are not an active Aid To Navigation anymore. So that's why it does not light up or sound the Foghorn on foggy days....but the catwalk lights up at night and the two Lighthouses on the South side do shine in red and white flashes. I have a picture from 2021 on a foggy evening of it doing just that. All the lights lit up at the same time...inner and outer lights and the catwalk too
The lighthouses along lake MI, at least here in Grand Haven & Muskegon, had foghorns; deep low loud foghorns. I could hear Muskegon's horn all the way in down on Mona lake. nowadays it's all electronic I guess. lights do no good in the fog. look at how long it took before you saw the lighthouse

Fun video. The ferry ⛴️ is a great ride. We did 4-5 years ago. Thanks From Wisconsin PS do you camp / air bb or motel?

@georgekn3mp Thank you so much for that explanation. It would sure have been cool if they were lit up!

That is the first explination that made sense. Thank you!
