Yes, you got lucky. Chris Craft Roamer's are tough quality Express Crusers. Called Cabin Crusers back in their day. It'll cost $$$$ to restore her but there's a market for old Chris Crafts. I owned a 37 ft Roamer 1967. Loved it. But, twin engines are expensive so now I sail the great lakes.
The 427 FE engines have crossbolt mains. The engines are worth selling. The reverse rotation on one is a cam and timing chain swap. Get aftermarket heads with medium or high port heads and nice machine work, and you got something special. Let's not forget the distributors.
I have 2 rebuilt heads for a 1967-8 460 heads with screw in studs but no rockets or nuts! They might work! They have surface rust from sitting years! In California if you need them?
At 9:47 the regurgitation reflex gagging almost made me do the same 🤮 . But Wow, You have some interesting marine stuff there, that somebody may want, or if not the scrap'yard will certainly take the bare metal. It would be a pity though, those 427s are not getting any easier to find. I really do wish you well :)
Thanks, we will probably take the good stuff off of the boat and then back whatever is left into the woods and call it a cabin, then modify the trailer into a car hauler
Great start. My take is, find a pair of ~100 hp diesels to install, then it will be a boat, you can afford to run, plus will have a resale value. JMTC. Best wishes all.
Does your roamer have a steel or aluminum Hull? The aluminum holes are more rare. They weigh a lot less than the steel hulls. She should make a pretty good turn of speed with those 427 V8s. They are low horsepower high torque engines. Transmission should be Paragon hydraulics 2 to1 reduction geared. These engines are very hungry though! Looks like a very interesting project. At least you don't have to worry about dry rot because it's not a wooden Hull.
They built the PBR boats of the Vietnam era , the boats length was 31 ft , two Detroit diesel at a 180 hrspwr ran through a jet drive due to slick river muddy conditions . The shielding on the vessel was mostly around the gunning and driver stations , they made use of newly developed ceramic shielding and ballistic blankets to line motors , tanks and drive systems . You found something very unique with a gem of yesteryear .
Being in Ag country, I guess its not that unusual to have tractors towing all kinds of "equipment" down the road. I cant imagine me getting away with something like that in my neck of the woods.
Pull engines and rebuild, provided no cracked blocks. Yes one engine will be reverse of other. My boat the starboard was reverse. What that means is timing is opposite. Port engine was 5 deg BTDC whlle Port engine is -5 BTDC. What BOAT stands for "Break Out Another Thousand$". Have fun you will learn a lot.
@@davidmann4533unlike aircraft engines, boat engines dont run opposite rotation- twin outboards just use the gearboxes to rotate opposite. I expect inboard motors are the same. Larger boats with inboards use twin propellers that counter rotate on sterndrives.
So, Engines should be soaked with trans fluid and seafoam in each cyl. They'll turn then. Also, All yachts suck down fuel. The hull design of that model actual makes it more fuel effecient than a deep V hull. And, to sell it try contacting Mitch Lapoint's web sight and other Chris Craft enthusiasts site's. It'll sell eventually....
For us, who know very little about boats, I think it’s too far gone to go back in the water. Also the guy we got it from wants a couple of parts off of it. I got some marvel mystery oil too poor in each cylinder which looks suspiciously similar to ATF so hopefully that works.
this criscraft roamer is rare unfortunatly ist not aluminum .those are rare and worth $$$ you may want to get on a criscraft forum you have good parts there to save another roamer i see your MN im northern WIS been in the marine industry for 35 years here on lake superior
They make nice jet boat engines if you can find a jet boat with a bad engine in it but a big block that was in it? That would work guys if everything else is there?
Before you even start on repairing that boat get a proper boat surveyor to look over it for you as don't think for one moment it's just clean ,change oil ,put new Battery's turn key away she goes oh No it won't remember this a boat is a hole in the Water where one pours money into . Now please if you know nothing about boats get someone who has had a boat for years teach you the Rules too many of you Yanks with big dollars buy boats take on water start key then shit out of hell out to Sea knows nothing on how to drive a boat do it the right way and you will have fun knowing what ,how ,to look after your boat plus keep your family safe
Absolutely no such thing as a free boat. It pretty much signifies that Jesus doesn't love you anymore. Okay, I thought Y'all were considering getting that thing back on the water. I'm guessing that has an aluminum hull that's a + but the Ford motors are a kick in the nuts. 440's would have been soo much better. Irregardless, he is still severely pissed off at you.

I think this one is also a 1967
The top bunk probably drops down to make a sofa back cushion......
Cool, we’ll have to try that out
Just found ur channel. Very interested in how this project goes. Good luck 🍀👍
Welcome aboard!
Put it in the barn or large shelter that it would protect it from the weather

Wouldnt it be simpler to just reverse the prop direction using the gearbox and an opposite prop?

That would be kinda cool
I wouldn’t take that boat for free is just one big headache😂
That boat is worth good money
Pull all the spark plugs and PB Blaster all them cylnders as well lubricate the linkage
Love the window aircon!

The aluminum holes are VERY rear.

Who built PBR's during VN war? Do you think that this is a PBR?

When I saw the cop I thought it was all over
@@hicksgarage3448As long as you are leaving town with this treasure he’s not about to get in the way.

It means the engines are counter rotating with different cam shafts I don’t think you really know what you’re talking about buddy

People love those and they are getting rare
I was getting a little queasy watching that yacht going down the highway, seasickness maybe?
Gas was 31 cents/gallon in 1967. Granted 31 cents was worth a lot more then, but at speed this boat ran in gallons per mile, not miles per gallon,
Cut the belts so only the crank moves.
Those engines would be great to put in old ford trucks
Yeah, we are kinda thinking the same thing

I really think you shouldn’t be around boats when you don’t know a single nautical name for anything 😂😂
Free is free
@@hicksgarage3448 The most expensive boat you'll ever own is a free boat.
I'd invest the time into restoring it if you have water nearby.
It's a chris craft those are expensive yall are lucky

ok kids i will give you a try. good luck
Thanks
If it's holding water, that means it's not leaking... Also means it may need a new bildge pump.

Air B&B. After the cleanup work ie money maker!

That is why we are pulling the motors and putting them in cars
Tool is paint scraper
Helm it’s called the helm
You could fix the deck and rent it out if you take the engine out?
I kinda want to turn it into a cabin
That’s a paint scraper scrape paint off the walls
Oh, good to know
Whats this do?, Its a paint scraper.. I bet there glad they seen that go.
You may of done the person you pick it from to get that off their property.
Slow is good, not like your gona do 65 with a Tractor
Pull the motors and sell them, they are worth more than the boat is restored.
We are going to pull them out, but we want to use them in our own projects, and we will probably flatbed the trailer.
do you know that the boat motors spin opposit than normal car motors.
How much you want for it? What state are you in?
Minnesota
No what .
I'm afraid this thing is beyond repair .........
Yes
No wrong e everything is repairable its only fiberglass easy fix
@@dustinfrost5214yeah that rusty fiberglass is very easy to fix
