Fun fact once a bunch of mathematicians went to a casino to stay the night and ended up costing the place a fuck ton because they, as mathematicians were easily able to find an exploit with the system: They knew that every time they hit the lever they would lose money on average, so just didn't. Instead they spent all day gorging on cheap food and liquor while never spending a single cent on the slots. Needless to say they're all permanentely banned from ever staying at that casino ever again.

hi, i know i am quite late, but i have been re-listening to a lot of the older episodes, and i really felt the need to correct something. I'm an aboriginal girl who grew up in tasmania which i will be referring to by it's original name 'lutruwita' throughout the rest of this comment, although my mob is the ngiyampaa people from up in NSW.
one of the more common myths about lutruwita, is that there are no palawa (tasmanian aboriginal) people left and that they all went 'extinct.' this myth is very hurtful to the palawa people around today.
i understand it's probably too late to amend this correction, but i think it's important for you to be aware of this regardless. :)

omg i used to do the casino thing with my friend in high school when we skipped classes :D
we would take 40 dinars, which is around 40 cents (that used to be the lowest amount) and then play 1 by 1, just black and red. and we would get as much coca cola as we wanted. there weren't sandwiches in that one, but some high school boys that also came always had chocolate or chips that they gave us (the casino was next to the high school)
they later upped the minimum amount to 100 dinars (around a dollar), which is still cheaper than a drink at a cafe, and that's for the two of us together + we had the hope of 'earning' something (sometimes we did, but 10 dollars at best) + we met all sorts of characters :D
