    "Afghanistan-Washington's Secret War" by Phillip Bonosky

    The way Hakim describes Sharia sounds exactly analogous to Jewish law (Halakha). Covers every aspect of life, mostly boring things like how many times does an ox have to gore something before we call it an "ox that is liable to often gore things" etc., and has so many differing opinions on each issue that it can be hard to ever say "this is the law on this matter" sometimes.

    if you are planning on eventually doing episodes focused on all of the former Socialist states of the 20th century, I'd love to see one of the People's Republic of Congo (1969-92) I can hardly find any sources about it, but it was one of the major self-proclaimed Marxist-Leninist states in Africa at the time, along with Angola, Ethiopia and Mozambique.
    also, I can't wait for a Cambodia focused episode, that one would defiantly be ... Interesting. lol.

    Workers of the world, awaken!
    Break your chains, demand your rights.
    All the wealth you make is taken
    B y exploiting parasites.
    Shall you kneel in deep submission
    From your cradles to your graves?
    Is the height of your ambition
    To be good and willing slaves?
    Arise, ye prisoners of starvation!
    Fight for your own emancipation;
    Arise, ye slaves of ev’ry nation, in One Union Grand.
    Our little ones for bread are crying;
    And millions are from hunger dying;
    The end the means is justifying,
    ‘Tis the final stand.
    If the workers take a notion,
    They can stop all speeding trains;
    Every ship upon the ocean
    They can tie with mighty chains;
    Every wheel in the creation,
    Every mine and every mill,
    Fleets and armies of the nation,
    Will at their command stand still.
    Arise, ye prisoners of starvation!
    Fight for your own emancipation;
    Arise, ye slaves of ev’ry nation, in One Union Grand.
    Our little ones for bread are crying;
    And millions are from hunger dying;
    The end the means is justifying,
    ‘Tis the final stand.
    Join the union, fellow workers,
    Men and women, side by side;
    We will crush the greedy shirkers
    Like a sweeping, surging tide;
    For united we are standing,
    But divided we will fall;
    Let this be our understanding-
    “All for one and one for all.”
    Arise, ye prisoners of starvation!
    Fight for your own emancipation;
    Arise, ye slaves of ev’ry nation, in One Union Grand.
    Our little ones for bread are crying;
    And millions are from hunger dying;
    The end the means is justifying,
    ‘Tis the final stand.
    Workers of the world, awaken!
    Rise in all your splendid might;
    Take the wealth that you are making -
    It belongs to you by right.
    No one for bread will be crying,
    We’ll have freedom, love and health,
    When the grand red flag is flying
    In the Worker’s commonwealth.

    55:47 Honest question: wouldn't they take that kind of anti-religious measures in order to disempower patriarchal tribe/clan leaders who (just like the old Orthodox Church during the Russian Revolution) joined reactionary forces against the socialist government? Because from that perspective it could be explained (and somewhat kind of justified).
    58:33 Funily enough, the Afghan socialist experiment sounds a lot like the right-wing propagandists sell how any socialist revolution is: top-down urban elites throwing a coup d'etat, imposing measures against the popular masses through violence, implementing collectivization through force, etc. But this is particularly funny because the Afghan socialist experiment is the example on how to NOT do a socialist revolution (unlike the many other socialist experiences of the 20th century - with maybe the only other exception being Cambodia).

      @Ajente02 2 роки тому +2

      He refers to the banning of fractions in the 10th Congress of the Russian Communist Party (Bolshevik) in 1921. You can read the full resolution in the MIA, as _"On Party Unity"_ (dated 16 March 1921).
      It was basically a measure to ensure unity of action during the critical moments of the Russian Civil War, in the context of several fractional struggles inside the party hindering the discussions and decisionmaking process. Some Marxists, especially Trotskyists, argue this measure was temporary and especific for the conditions of the Civil War (and show as proof the tolerance of fractions in the party between 1917-1921, and after that between 1923-1927), while many others, especially Marxist-Leninists, defend antifractionalism as a core principle of any vanguard party (going even further to say that Lenin himself defended this).

    well, i mean, religious fundamentalists' opinions ARE less worthy than ours because we believe in and go by dialectical materialism and science and proven things and they just go by whatever their holy books and priests say. we don't have to be like elitist atheists but we don't have to pander to the religious ones either and we can't let them have their islamic or christian republics and laws, especially not here in the balkans. faith is a personal thing, people can believe in whatever they want and celebrate whatever they want (i also like and celebrate the holidays but don't believe in the religion and am a marxist) but they can't group into teams like soccer fans, fight each other, and demand laws according to their religion, especially not in multicultural regions. and anything that contributes to that is a no and can't be allowed.
