    I'm no chess master (yet) but I personally think that everyone that can dream has the potential to play blindfolded chess. Think about it. In your dreams, you visualize a lot more complex things than a chess board. You recall homes you've been in, places you've gone to in full detail without even trying. Now imagine if you trained your brain and actually tried with a chess board. Even when I play videogames, I catch myself dreaming and walking through the different maps in my sleep and those maps have detail, routes and textures to it. Just a thought.

    While there is no way I could ever do this, I did find a trick that worked for me. Instead of looking intently at the board, I kinda blur my vision. I can better see like where the knight will land without counting the squares. The diagonals are also easier to see. Then look regular to find the pieces.

    • @MrSupernova111
      @MrSupernova111 7 років тому

      I think that's a good idea. I noticed I can think faster when I don't stare at the board. I also like to visualize where I want to attack or what position I desired to have after several moves and then count the moves per side that it would take to get there.
      For example, in a king + pawn game ending if in a best case scenario it takes 5 moves to get a new queen then I count to see how many moves the black king would need to stop me. Otherwise, I rely on what winning position I need to win and count moves from there one side at a time instead of alternating.

    I find there are 2 halves to visualization first the act of being able to do it effectively and the second knowing how to use it as such it is useless if you skip steps in a long calculation, for this reason I find the better I get with regard to visualization the less effectively I can use it and the worse I perform is there anything I can use to improve the aspect of using it?

    • @HiFisch94

      I can tell you how I do it:
      I watch a short lecture of the opening with the most common moves + what's important. After that I mostly play them for a week, if there's the opportunity. I have the moves next to me to begin with and then start to try out some stuff around the move orders and try to reassess what went well and bad after the game.
      It's a pretty simple approach to get a few openings pretty good into your head, but it won't take you to the level of an fm, im or gm. I'd say it's pretty nice for amateurs that are
