Thanks for watching Everyone! What are your thoughts on Creme de Cassis? As always the recipe is in the ^^^Description Box^^^
Glen & Friends Cooking I really enjoy Crème de cassis especially in the original tequila sunrise. Found quite a few locally made crème de cassis that have deep fruit flavours and some not as sweet.
They have such a beautiful and healthy (or so it seems from the outside) relationship.
Inb4 some armchair relationships expert explains why and get a bunch of upvotes
So I am not old enough to drink in kind of alcohol. But I love learning the different styles of cocktails you’ve done over this series! Everything for assembling them and providing some back ground on the drinks (whether that’s historical or just the history of the contents!) I just want to say I appreciate your work and am always glad to see your videos in my UA-cam feed! Thanks for the hard work! Have a Great Day!
If your not old enough to drink you can make some really close mocktails something like a grass hopper is really easy to make and really close if you use flavoured Syrup i use dark chocolate in mine and can't tell the difference if I make it properly, there's some reason good non alcoholic vodkas as well
I love Bombay Sapphire - especially in a Gin & Tonic.
At least I'm not the only one
Beefeater is probably the best mass market/generic gin, I always keep a bottle at home. Tanqueray No. 10 is very good as a higher proof option. I'm personally very partial to Malfy, specifically the lemon and grapefruit varieties. The lemon is great in a negroni while the grapefruit is excellent in a G&T.
My favorite gin is Hendrick's. Apparently they use roses to flavor it which gives it a slightly floral, aromatic quality. Goes great with St Germain and a splash of sparkling wine, or in a French 75.
Tanqueray, or Bombay Sapphire. I love a good gin martini with bleu cheese stuffed queen olives. GORGEOUS!!
Super light on the dry.
Hi Glen ;) If you like Cassis, you should try some of the simpliest french cocktails: Le Kir et le Kir Royal.
It's actually a mix of creme de cassis and white whine or champagne (for the kir royal). Fun Fact: Cassis (In France we rarely say the "creme de") is mainly produce in Burgundy (Bourgogne) in Dijon (just like the mustard) Enjoy ^^
Kir Royal is simple but very nice. It became famous in Germany because a succesful TV series was named after that.
Made it at home with just some cheap $15 gin, spent more on the cassis. Really love the taste! more gin cocktail recipes would be appreciated!
I love gin. I was in Amsterdam once and bought a bottle of gin distilled from it's original recipe. It was the strongest gin I've ever tasted.
I'm sure you could get the Dillon's gin at Total Wine or Bevmo.
One of my favorite gins is Tann's. It has a wonderful springtime botanical flavor with cucumber being in it's profile. A gin and tonic made with that gin, tonic, a thin dice of cucumber, a splash of cucumber soda, or lavender soda, and garnished with dried lavender, or better yet lavender bitters. It's great for that winter is over springtime is here taste.
There is a video of Heston Blumenthal making a gin and tonic. Don't worry, one can actually make that recipe without needing a laboratory or spending a fortune.
I also like Cassis. It's great in champagne. A Kir Royale.
I was wondering if you ever heard of Butterfly Pea? It's a flower from Thailand. People make drinks with it. You use it like you would tea. In fact it's called Butterfly Pea tea. It's wonderful on a hot day when you want to drink something that's not just water, or a soda. It's good for your hair and skin. It also has a blue color. However if you put any kind of acid in it, it turns a gorgeous violet color. I'll drink it with some club soda, or tonic, or seltzer. Or ginger ale, white wine, or champagne. You can buy it on Amazon. You should try it sometime. It's basically a small dried deep blue colored flower.
I love that you used Beefeater, not bc its known but bc these are older cocktail recipes and I read a lot of historical fiction and beefeater is mentioned a lot so I feel it is appropriate for this cocktail
I'm from Quebec and my folks love Casis! My dad often serves sparkling white wine with a drop of Cassis at the bottom of the glass. It's very tasty!
Creme de Cassis and Champagne is wonderful. It's called a Kir Royale. If you just have white wine it's called a Kir.
@@nellgwenn that's right! I had forgotten. Once the wine comes out, im happy 😆
beefeater has orange and lemon notes, thats why you can taste citrus x)
Hendricks summer solstice gin is amazing for martinis. Clean and very slight hint of floral without being floral. For mixing, Bombay sapphire ...
New Amsterdam Gin is an excellent value. Very good!
Love Botanist from Islay in Scotland. Available in most liquor stores in the US. Great stuff.
Much like others have said...tanqueray for everyday widely available gin, Hendricks for a more unique gin but I like cucumber so that makes sense. Bombay would maybe be third.
Plymouth for London Dry
Nolet's for something really unique
Bluecoat and Plymouth gins are my top two besides the local distillery’s that I also enjoy quite a bit.
Beefeater is a favourite of mine because I think it has a good balance between the juniper and the citrus. It's a good all-round gin. Also there is no relation between the Mississippi Mule and the Moscow Mule, because the category of drink that the Moscow Mule exists in is called a Buck. So a Moscow Mule is really a Vodka Buck. Mule was never to my knowledge a drink category.
I cannot say how the Beefeater generally behavies in cocktails with lemon juice, such as a White Lady for example. I have a very low tolerance for the sourness of citric acid, so I do not drink cocktail with lemon juice in them unless it's in something like a Bloody Mary or Tom Collins.
Black currents AND Julie! This video is a winner even before having the drink - with a freshly squozen twist! 😎😎🥇🥇👍👍 Now I will buy Creme de Cassis! Thank you!
I don't drink a lot of gin, but I like Botanist well enough to sip it neat.
I think you need to revisit this with both a Hendrix and a Bombay gin.
My new favourite gin is Roku. Just love it!
Cadenhead's 'OLD RAJ' Gin is my absolute favourite.
My go to gins are Hendrick and Malfy. The Malfy especially for when you want that lemon hit.
Cassis for a Kir Royal. Champagne and cassis
This drink is right up my alley! Thanks! I do have a bottle of Crème de Cassis, and I use it somewhat regularly. It does go nicely with gin for me. My gin preference is to have more than one in the house, but our default choice is to have a bottle of Hendrick's (which has notes of cucumber and rose, and less juniper than some other gins). We often also have samples of locally-distilled gins from Minneapolis (from Lawless or Dampfwerk).
I'm a strong believer in buying local product. A gin made in Perth, Ontario is Top Shelf. It's available in my local LCBO, so if not stocked in your local, you can order it for store pickup.
Ford's Gin is very nice in a cocktail
Bombay Sapphire is my gin of choice.
I have never gotten my hands on Creme de Cassis but I think I would like it. I really like black and red currants. My Aunt had a few bushes for the birds to eat and as kids we would grab a handful to snack on when we were outside playing all day. She did the same thing just for us kids with cherry tomatoes as well.
Beefeater is my favorite gin! It’s my go to martini gin!!
I have a few options for Gin Aviator is a botanical heavy one I have found recently that is good. I am also a fan of new amsterdams gin if you want something more neutral. The other two I get would be harder to find for you since they are produced in smaller numbers in Alaska They are Fifty Fathoms and Denali Spirits gin
Made it with Costco’s Kirkland gin and DeKuyper Creme De Casis. Accidentally over poured the casis to about 1/2 ounce. Had a definite citrus taste to it. Looking forward to trying it with a better gin and Drillaud Creme de Casis.
If you like Currants, I would highly suggest Brockman’s Gin. I just discovered it this past Christmas. The currant notes are very prevalent the moment you open the cap.
Really enjoying it so far.
I love Hendricks gin with my tonic
I like Berkshire Mountain Distillery Ethereal gin.
It's great, and every batch is different!
I really would like to try Dylan's but, big fan of The Botanist in a lot of the drinks I make. Great video as always
My go-to gin is Sapphire. Hendricks is lovely as well. Going out to get Cassis 💃
If you like Cassis, check out Mona et Fille (Ile d'Orléans, Québec). That is where I get mine from. They have lovely products made from Black currant ranging from condiments to wine and the crème de Cassis. Bonus: it's Canadian :)
My favourite workhorse Gin is Plymouth.
I enjoy Copperhead gin very much as well as Hendricks. Both very high-quality gins that you should definitely give a try.
before Gin there was (G)Jenever which i go for (G)Jenever, yes i am Dutch ;) Bokma, Olifant, Boomsma all 3 brands do grain-disstilled spirits. those are 3 of my favorite brands.
Ford's Gin is probably my most favorite Gin.
Härnösand, a swedish gin that i love 😀😀
I enjoy gin. I've tried a number of them, and I have an extra bottle hanging out in one of my cupboards that I haven't gotten to yet. So far, my favourite gin is "Big Gin" from Captive Spirits in Seattle, but I don't think that's distributed very widely right now. For a basic, inexpensive gin, I usually choose Boodles. It's not complex, there's nothing insanely special about it, just a simple and straightforward gin that makes a decent G&T.
I have tried Aviation, which I don't like, because it leans into an anise flavour I don't like.
Hooray, Julie made it home in time to appear in After Dark. Her mic was a little crackely, dunno if it was low battery like you had the other day or it it was just rubbing against her hair and scarf. Regardless, any time both of you get to give an opinion on something is great.
For all of you cheap booze drinkers like me: 1 1/3 oz Kirkland’s gin, 3/4 oz DeKuyper Casis, 5ml lemon juice. This combo resulted in a much more balanced cocktail. But then, I’ve been drinking Casis since I was a teenager bumming around France and I’m old. I may have a flavor bias.
Kirkland booze is excellent
Bombay sapphire gin is my favorite.
try Gin Mare its awesome
If you can get Roku Gin you should give it a try, it's my personal favorite Gin even just on the rocks! It's a Japanese Gin.
The world's best Gin and Vodka comes from the 1911 cidery. Yes, vodka and gin distilled from apple juice. It's REALLY good.
Gin - Bombay Sapphire.
Hello, I like the full apron you are wearing! How do I get 2 of them? I also enjoy these videos, for the occasional time that I may drink I would like to try this one.
I bought the apron from Search and Rescue Denim.
@@GlenAndFriendsCooking ok, thank you. I would have loved to have your logo stitching as well.
You could just ask them to stitch it the same - they probably still have it on file?
For generally available gins, maybe try Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray? Both _a lot_ better than Beefeater or Gordon's
My favourite gin would probably be 204 GIN (204 Spirits distillers based out of Winnipeg). No idea if it's available in southern Ontario, definitely not available in Nebraska where I'm located now. Also a fan of Proof's Minion Old Tom (based out of Fargo, ND).
Not a huge gin fan. But fir commercially available, Bombay Sapphire. And for small batch, Blaum Brothers Gin out of Galena Illinois USA. Also available in a barrel aged version.
I don’t really like beefeater that much but LOVE SIPSMITH - if you can get a bottle of that or any of their varieties I really encourage you to give it a go guys!
You COULD do this with vodka, too. I might try that.
I don't know how wide their distribution area is but Deacon Giles's Original Gin is fantastic. (They're from Salem, Massachusetts)
My favorite gin is Bombay Sapphire.
I like when I google the word squozen your videos show up
Hey Glen, love your channel. Have you tried Ink Gin, made in Australia and it’s delicious:)
Most London Dry Gins are too harsh for my taste, but I do like it's contribution as a secondary flavor. My favorite so far is the Costco brand. Thanks for recommending Cassis, it sounds like something I'd really like and I wouldn't have thought to find it in the store. Edit: Tried this- the combination taste pretty good but the Cassis does not smell very good which doesn't make it as enjoyable as I think it could be.
Before Gin became fashionable and all of these independent distilleries started to pop up the default answer to favourite Gin would be Gordons. Beefeater not so much.
Stephen Morrish like when, in the 60’s?
@@bryangillett2685 I'm in the UK, It's only in the last few years that all of these small distillery gins have become fashionable. Gin And Tonic has always been a popular drink with Gordons at the top of the heap. These days you can expect to see a dozen different brands of gin on sale in the shop, 10 years ago there would have been fewer and all from large name brand distilleries.
I use a good Creme de Cassis more in sauce for duck breasts, where the intense fruitiness does fine work. I find it cloying as a drink on its own. My other use is in a Champagne cocktail. As for gins: I like Tanqueray for gin and tonics, Beefeaters with tomato juice cocktails and a London Dry Gin in a Martini.
Hi, it is possible to do this cocktail with vodka or pisco? I can't drink gin, it just make me sick. Thank you
Favorite gun works have to be Barr Hill Gin.
Wow, that cocktails book by Christopher & Co. must have been given to whealthy customers, as the Maiden's Blush recipe expressly asks for Cusenier Oxygénée absinth. Back in the time, that was the most expensive on the market. Still today, a bottle again costs around 250 euros. I think, Christopher & Co. is still around.
Four Pillars Navy Strength... Awesome Gin.
Hendrix Gin is so smooth with the hint of cucumber and im digging Ryan Reynolds' Aviator Gin but I will so Aviator is a big bold gin and not everyone likes it
Monkey 47 is an amazing gin. 47 botanicals!
Hendricks is probably my favorite, but Dillon's is great.
Ryan Reynolds' Aviation Gin.
Do you live in Ontario Canada? I live in St.Catherines about 20 minutes away from the distillery!
I mostly drink Prairie Organic gin. It's local (Minnesota, USA), gluten free (made from corn), and makes a decent gin & tonic.
Robert_MN lol all liquor is gluten free!
@@bdsisti Nope. While most is considered gluten free, to someone with celiac disease, wheat based alcohols still pose a risk.
My favorite gin is Hendriks, but again the only gin cocktail i like is a gin tonic.
I don't know why I only get Bombay Sapphire, and it always goes into G and T in the summer. Guess I should branch out a bit...
Roku Gin.
Check out Wine Enthusiast's review.
I generally use Tanqueray, but Beefeater is usually second choice.
Last week, I bought some Tanqueray and the guy at the liquor store looked at it and said, "Dry gin? I prefer wet gin."
I now know to never take his advice.
You have no sense of humor!
My absolute favourite is the Sipsmith Lodon dry gin. However, I dont know if your able to get it in Canada
Do like Sipsmith.
I absolutely love Harris Gin, from the Outer Hebrides, though I barely want to add tonic to it, never mind using it in a cocktail
I will say tho.. I'm pretty rusty.. Started tending-bar at 18.. I'm now 34. Lol I stopped bartending roughly 4-5 years ago.. But for some CRAZY REASON I still buy bartending essentials. (and I don't drink .. Anymore lol)
Citadell Gin from France
Nikka Gin from Japan
I’ve legit never heard of beefeater. I want it now because of the name that’s all lol.
My go to gin is Uncle Val's
Being allergic to juniper, the cocktail is not for me. The mule reference relates to the "kick of a mule".
So, why fight over the dredges, when you could just make a whole new batch...
I hate gin! But I like Creme de Cassis, especially in a Kir Royale (Creme de Cassis and Champagne)
.... maybe: less lemon and more gin (Beefeater) 😉
No favourite gin. I’m like you I prefer certain guns for certain function. Some are citrus forward others are local botanical some many to choose from
More wireless mic issues.
Nope... something different.
So stupid question. I thought a mule needed ginger beer (or ale) and citrus with any spirit...
Not a stupid question at all - a buck or mule has become known as a cocktail with ginger beer, citrus, and spirit. But waaaaay before that, there are several 'mule' cocktails that are wildly different. So as much as today we think a mule 'must contain X' - history is laughing at us.
@@GlenAndFriendsCooking that's for the info that's interesting.
hate gin
