  • Declutter With Me + Tips I've Learned from @DanaKWhite
Branch Basics NON TOXIC CLEANER I love: Discount with link www.heyshayla.com/branchbasics/
I'm currently going through a 30 day decluttering guide (that is taking me longer than 30 days): fragrant-leaf-332.myflodesk.c...
I have no affiliation with her, I just found her on IG and really like the guide!
But in this "Declutter With Me" video we started with blankets and sheets. Boring right? But I did it on purpose. First, because I have SO MANY!! And I thought it would be a relatively low attachment and easy to accomplish while reducing A LOT of volume out of my home.
I also share some great tips I've learned from @DanaKWhite with her book "Decluttering at the speed of life" (amzn.to/47HEqWR) and having her on my podcast (heyshayla.buzzsprout.com/1819...)

The Minimal Mom has GREAT resources on her channel for families in every stage of life! I'm not a minimalist by any means but her advice on how to declutter for peace of mind is so helpful. Highly recommend her content, she'd be a great guest for the podcast!!

      Hi Amanda!
I agree - she has great resources and tips.
However, don't you feel she keeps eternally decluttering? I mean, at some point you're left with just enough and can stop.
It makes me wonder if I will ever be done.
      Cheers ❤

@djamburere You're always decluttering because you are always bringing new things into your house and over time your needs change naturally. Your systems of organization won't stay organized without regular maintenance. It's just like cleaning - just because you deep clean a space doesn't mean it stays clean forever and you never have to touch it again - you have to maintain it. Decluttering and organization are the same way.

This type of decluttering video is my favorite. I find it very helpful to listen to someone's rationale for keeping or parting with their items. It helps me work through my own stuff.

I enjoyed! Not only is this my favorite decluttering video I've seen because of your down to earth personality and pleasant voice, but also a lot of helpful anecdotes that made me think about my behaviors. Definately guilty of buying "organizational items" that just end up taking more space

And yes, Loved and enjoyed it!!
We also used to have a goal to have a drawer or shelf empty in each space si whenever something random came it was able to go there and whenever we organized we again made one empty. Worked like a charm and made me feel so light and calm ◡̈

I decluttered my sheets recently and it made me feel free! It’s crazy cause they are just sheets, but man they take up space so much space! I use different pillowcase patterns in attempts to “style” the rooms. They take up way less storage space too.

I’ve heard Dana k white say “you can keep anything but you can’t keep everything.” When I start decluttering I’ll put everything similar into a pile (like sheets in one pile, blankets in another, etc.) and I ask myself what do I want to keep. I feel like that’s a lot easier than asking myself what I want to get rid of because the stuff you really want is always easy to identify - then what’s left over are things you know aren’t your favorites. Hope this helps!

I enjoyed this video! Seeing my fave UA-camrs declutter definitely inspires me to do the same as I want to have less "stuff" in my life. Also a great tip not to bring organizational things in as it's just more stuff... I've totally been doing that!

Hi, the funny faces you make when something annoys you make me laugh so hard!!! and the story about your partner spraying himself with cleaning supplies to check if it burns was hilarious 😂 thanks for these moments. I really appreciate your optimism and positive attitude. Make me want to try harder to be more patient and positive myself.

Yes on the first tackle your house then storage for anyone struggling! You realize that after 3 years in storage you don't miss that item and aren't thrilled to see it again, thinking it was long gone lol.
And to all parents out there who plan on more babies than they already have: get rid of annoying clothes (or again just separate them from the main pile) that didn't fit or were uncomfortable or impractical and your babe didn't wear right as you're taking them out of their closets/drawers 2 paper bags "small for [this stage]" and "annoying/didn't love/impractical/goodbye" bag and you're set. What makes you think that that sock that never holds will be better for your next. Or that type of impractical outfit will find use if you have nicer cuter impractical outfits for this age. Or that tacky shirt that worked but you hated looking at. Or the colour that you didn't like seeing etc. Or the duplicate of an item you already have a favourite you use nonstop (like jacket or snowsuit or cap or shoes). I always say "worst" case scenario I might "have" to hunt something new and cute for the next babe 😂♥️
Same goes for too impractical or bad or duplicate toys. Maybe even unpopular toys might be novel for a while for the next babe, but ones that annoyed the heck out of you or ones that just didn't work the way they were supposed to? Just let em go we're all drowning in toys already.

One of my biggest challenges trying to declutter my spaces, is that I always have an idea for things I can make out of repurposed materials. Fx. sheets and towels as fabric for sewing burpcloths or drying rags for washing dishes, repurposing good quality linens as baby duvet covers or just ripping it up in clothsize for when you wash your windows and bikes etc. Sometimes this ability to see all these posibilities for repurposing is driving me nuts! :)

So true with a partner and finding balance. I was always so tidy and organized, my partner not so much and then add a toddler! I’ve learned to be minimalist in my expectations if that makes sense and compromise. The water pic drives me crazy out because it’s ugly and takes up so much space, but it is what it is and I’m learning to accept some things are just part of living (at least for some people) and we have to meet in the middle.
Organized feels good. Thanks for the video!

Also, “you have a lot of pants”…when we got married, my husband had 30 pairs of JEANS. To be fair, his work jeans and nice jeans were not interchangeable, BUT STILL. I told him he needed to get rid of jeans or do his own laundry. He got rid of jeans; but now we do Dana’s laundry day and hooooly cow laundry is never overwhelming now!

Just looking at the blanket situation, since you were collecting them around the house and not finding them in the drawers, isnt it safe to say youre using them all? 😅 it might seem like a lot but it seems to me that this is just the amount you need. I feel like its ok to keep it as long as its useful to you

Not me watching this thinking that’s a fine amount of sheets to have so it’s easier to change the bedding more frequently😆 instead of waiting a long time and laying in bed soup juices longer than one should😅🥴 we have 3 kids, 2 dogs and 2 cats. All who sleep on the beds all over the house. Extra bedding is a necessity in this place or else it’s forever doing laundry and having to wait to put it all back together 🤪

For the blankets you’re not sure about, I always have at least two blankets in our car to have! They’re perfect when you do spontaneous things like go to a park randomly and maybe it’s colder out/it’s a nice day out to have a picnic out of the blue. They’re also great to use at playgrounds when the slides are wet lol. I always have a blanket in my suv or stroller for these reasons, because I have a problem with not being prepared for EVERYTHING so I hoard all the things for the possibilities lol
