Anti-Architecture & Deconstructivism

- Deconstructivism is a Postmodern architectural style characterised by the idea of fragmentation and the manipulation of a structure’s surface. Buildings adopting the style are often formed of components that have been disassembled and reassembled in a new and unorthodox way, giving the impression of a chaotic design devoid of precise logic.
Gehry does not consider himself or his buildings desconstructivist. The building wasn’t clad in steel to make it easier to build, it just so happened that one of the concept models of the building was made of metal and they liked the look of it so much they convinced Gehry to change the material. Also the building’s sound quality is not good because of its architecture, but in spite of its architecture. The sound designer for the building said he had to work very hard to make Gehry’s space work because the form of the building wasn’t helping the sound. I learned this from the audio tour of the building when I visited.
You should make a video about the architecture of Jacque fresco, he has very interesting designs and design philosofy.
Great video! :)
Didn't notice the museum when I was passing it by. What an attentive person I am. ☹️ Wish I had walked another side of the street that day
Well made video, maybe should've consulted an expert in architectural theory on the content though.
Wright's architecture is not deconstructivist and the museum that you showcased here was in fact built decades before the philosophy of deconstruction came into existence let alone transferred into the realm of architecture.
Keep it up though, we desperately need good architecture content on UA-cam!
Carter McHugh The structural basis of ‘Deconstruction’ was in part inspired by Martin Heidegger’s ‘Destruktion’. So while true that FLW buildings aren’t deconstructivist the theory has deep philosophical roots before before 1950
you're right but doesn't that testify to the genius frank lloyd was? the man perfected and cristalized modernist architecture with fallingwater and then gave us the guggenheim serving as this wild predecessor to the deconstructivism movement. ain't that something?
That's true, but the theory of deconstructivism existed in literature, philosophy and art decades before it moved on to architecture...mainly because of how structurally challenging it was at the time.
I'd argue his distaste for boxy buildings (both internally and externally) was a definite precursor to the essential ideas needed to make deconstructivism real. It's cliché, but take Fallingwater for example, it could be Pre-Deconstructivist.
Watching this video and realising that architecture is not an art form I'm considering becoming a demolition operative
Thank you
Sorry about the re-upload guys! Removed those weird black minutes off the last video!
Next video will be coming very soon! Thanks for the patients guys!
Great video :)
I think the bord gáis theatre in Dublin, Ireland is a pretty good example
Love your videos, great job!
Thank you very much, More videos next week!
No, no, no, no, no. Mr. Wright intended that the attendee start at the top of the Guggenheim and work their way down taking more of a leisurely stroll rather than an upward hike.
Okay but what is the background music ?
Hey, uh, I'm pretty sure that the museum is Bauhaus style and not deconstructivism, also you are supposed to take a lift to the highest level and follow the ramp downwards, according to what my arts teacher told us...
@@muhamedc9713 thanks :)
The museum belongs to the organicism style...which is a lot different in theory and visualization than the bauhaus
Still waiting for more content, I hope this hiatus is only temporary!
Hi there Carter I'm glad you are still waiting for more videos. We are thinking of doing a video soon about Brutalism architecture. We were wonder if we could run the script past you first?
@@ThoughtCatalyst, huh, not sure why I never got the notification for this or how I ended up back here three years later... But if you have any architecture scripts in the works these days I'd be happy to provide comments.
I have to be honest that while I enjoyed this video, the frame rate was staggeringly distracting and made it very hard for me to focus.
deconstructivism is postmodern architectural this style use steel structure and end of any building is edge and no semtric
actually, post modernism tends to borrow stuffs up mostly from the classical architecture. Deconstructivism denies it strongly, suggesting the ideas of borrowing from the past is meaningless in this modern age. Deconstructivism is kind of like Post-postmodernism.
As much as despise Jacques Derrida's Deconstructivism of words, I find myself enjoying the deconconstructivism of architecture. What a tangled web we weave.
Please go back to animated videos, they get much more views and are more satisfying to look at. I checked the comments on the animated video and it looks like everyone was saying you stole the style from another channel, but it looked nothing like that channels style, and the animation was great!
Uh-ga-lee.
What happened to beauty?
how does this compare to up in smoke-ism?
Cheech..
PUP
Most deconstructivist buildings seem to delight in being offensive.
