Amazing Sunburst Metal Sliding Door

This is a step by step process of making a metal sliding door. I usually build one or two of these a month and ship them all over the states. This particular design was something I came up with at the end of last year. Since then I have made four of this design including the one in this video.

So you draw the sunburst motive on a metal panel, cut it out - and then reweld it together? How do you cater for the strips in between the plates, which you obviously discard?
You keep the individual plates in their original position - so why don't you just weld a line on the plate in a starburst?
Do you weld the plates on another plate?

Arthur Benjamins I actually tried that in my earlier attempt but it just didn't provide the dimensional quality that I was shooting for. Plus by cutting the design out and rewelding it allows the rust pattern to not look so fluid and kind of subtlety shakes up the design

okay, I found the place to make comments. is the secret solution to remove the oil that prevents the rusting process what esthetitions use to color hair?

Barbara Nolan actually I just wipe the oil off by hand which allows the solution to penetrate into the steel. And because, wiping isn't 100% , there are areas that rust slower and some that rust faster. Your analogy is correct though, remove the oil in order to add the color.
