Whoever’s collection that was is probably so grateful they are in good hands and not in the till of some retail store! Good on ya for preserving someone’s hard work
Last summer I found two partial old style blue coin books in a tiny US antique shop in Sacketts Harbor. One was full of King George V Pennies and the other King George V nickels. Don’t think any of the rare ones, but each set only cost me $1 US, so I count it a win.
That's amazing! The oldest Canadian nickel I've gotten was a 1946. I also praise your knowledge of US coins. I feel like most American coin roll hunters don't take as much time to go through the history and numismatics when they find Canadian coins as you do with US coins. I wish they'd talk about them equally!
Thanks so much. I appreciate that. I'm very interested in the history and I'm always trying to expand my knowledge - even outside of Canadian coins. Thanks so much for watching!
There's a couple of American coin roll hunters who know their foreign coins. I make sure I watch them so I can get educated, just like I watch this one so I can learn about canuck coins. :)
Fun to watch and was getting excited as you opened each roll. Hope you could find a 1925-6. I started to collect coins when I was a kid in New Brunswick in the 50’s. Even then I never found a 1925-6. I had plenty of the other dates. I am now 80 and just got the bug again a year ago. Last spring I got 20 rolls of nickels from the bank. Seven of them were old rolls and I couldn’t believe it they were 1937-8-9 40’s & 50’s I was blown away. I think I only got three King George V’s but what a find with quite a few in excellent shape. Thanks again I enjoyed watching as you were checking each coin like I may have been doing it. 😀
What a fantastic coup! I have found KGV nickels this past September and found 7 in two rolls. I also found a full roll of 1967 bunny nickels as well. The KGV's were in a collection dump as there were several KGVI nickels as well. This was very fun to watch. I love your enthusiasm and I have to say, nickels are my favorite as well. Thank you for sharing and good luck on your hunts in '25!
You're lucky to have bank tellers who will set older coins aside for you. In my experience here in the States, bank tellers will usually set older coins and silver for the Manager. A while back I had an opportunity to go through several rolls of Unc Elizabeth 5 cent coins from the early 1960s. There were 3 rolls of 1964s, but no extra WL. However, there was one coin in the 1960 roll. It was a bare beaver in Unc. Over the years I also been able to find some of the other varieties. I've also been able to find a 1925 and a 1926 Far 6 in an accumulation of KGV 5 cent pieces, along with the remainder of the dates from 1920-1936.
Exciting nickel rolls, with US silver, and many KG Vs... The only silver War nickel I ever found was in a "loose change" coin box in a black garbage bag downstairs my apartment building... It was a 1945 war nickel. There was also a 1964 USA dime 90% silver, and a 1950s Canadian silver dime. There was a hoard of copper pennies, a few Mexican foreign coins, lots of US coins. There was overall $20 face value, with nothing dated past 1984. A great time capsule of my teenage years looking through coins. After that find, I seriously resumed CRH, and it's been over 2 years now. If people trash treasures, there might be some rolled back to the bank...
@@CADRollHunter I reguarly visit that spot, and found all sorts of things through the years. I already found a laptop PC, that I used as my main (most powerful) computer for a few years. Great score bro ! Years ago, i got 2 full rolls of silver dimes from the bank ! Everyone of them are silver dimes from the 30 s and 40 s !! Still have them. 👍
That's the dream find for any coin roll hunter! At last week's meeting of the Waterloo Coin Society, a fellow member showed me pics of his latest score - 8 full rolls of silver quarters from the bank! Incredible. I'm still waiting for that to happen to me!
@CADRollHunter That is a huge score of silver ! A rare find but it happens. That's why this hobby can be a lot of fun ! Kind of like treasure hunting. 👍
Took me a second when you said "🐇 nickel" hehe. I'm not super sure if I even own one of those. The centennials are always cool; they were nice designs for those. It would be cool to hunt coins up there again; I gathered up quite a few Voyageurs & half dollars during my Canada trip in 2015 when I drove up to Nanaimo. None were silver, but back to the year afterward, and many were in immaculate condition. I did get lucky and found 7 Canadian pennies down here in Texas in the last penny box I did. Congrats on that US war nickel, 0.05626 TrOz worth of Ag. >>;=)
Yeah that was a good little find there. I'm going through a bunch of nickels right now. Sorting them out and the information you gave out will come in handy. Thank you very much. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Lol! Just a little... but the feeling didn't last long! Thanks for watching! I love watching your half-dollar hunts, btw. I wish we could do that here! I might need to take a road trip south!!
That is a nice bank score for sure. One time, I got one roll that had 7 George V nickels along with a bunch of George VI nickels. Another time, I got one full roll of 1951 commem. nickels. Another time, I got one full roll of 1967 bunny nickels.
Absolutely fantastic bank teller! Fantastic finds! You are absolutely right on the 1939 American nickel of the the mint marks. Check the reverse for the DDR below the building. The word Monticello will be doubled and five cents, too.
3:47 yup I went in one time last year, during the summer when I don't usually get coins, and got a bundle of dimes, 4 rolls of the bundle were 80% silver, I don't know if they came out of a box, or were brought in by a customer, but today it's like over $500 of silver, at the time it was like $400, silvers been going up
Great haul. I just started collecting coins and this gives me some hope of what I might find. Hunting is half of the fun. So many varieties out there. Liked and subbed.
Thanks, and welcome to the hobby! I'm happy to help inspire your own coin collecting. I appreciate you watching! Not every roll will be like this (just watch my last nickel video!), but every once in a while you might be lucky to find something like this!

Awesome hunt, James. Im still watching you look for varieties. You just found a 1951 half moon. New information for me. I want to let you know to check the 1946 Jeffersons for the counterfeit Henning nickel.
Super cool coins! I was wondering, when it comes to the 53 shoulder fold v. no shoulder fold, does that trick with the i work on all denominations or just nickels?
Yes it does! The SF and NSF obverses were the same across the denominations. It's particularly helpful for lower grade coins, where there's lots of wear. But it's actually the easiest marker to go on.
That was great. Many years ago, I had a similar find with rolls of Buffalo nickels. I hope you thought to ask if the same person brought in any other stuff.
I have to assume it's possible - even improbable... Just like finding a US silver war nickel here in Canada. Keep your eyes peeled - you never know what you might run across!
That's a great way to look at it, for sure! Most people aren't looking that closely for WAM/CAM or the position of the maple leaf and the fold. Just a rare die pair, essentially.
@CADRollHunter Very much so. I have a 1931 & a 1935. Which one would be better in regards to value and/or rarity.
