Suchy said a re-release of an updated Shipyard is coming this year, likely at GenCon 🔥
Shipyard is so innovative for it's time. Very simple as well! I think it's a gem. Love the old-school art as well
Great games !!! Thank you !
Samurai is a hit in our house....ridiculously rules light (4 page rulebook) yet a lot of player agency & every decision counts. We also love the quality game pieces & the box art is quite nice as well. All we play is 2 player & it works very well at that player count. All in all it's a keeper!
Dokmus looks great. I own The King is dead so don’t see the need to seek out Samurai (not that I would hope to find a copy anywhere) and I played a friend’s copy of Shipyard a while back and found it so similar to many other euros that unfortunately the play that I had of it just swept over me without leaving much of an impression.
Thought I read somewhere on BGG that Shipyard is getting redone.
Yes it is
Samurai is a modern classic by Dr Knizia but is out of print. Caesar - Siege Rome in 20 min is having similar mechanism but restrict the play count to 2 only. Need to check Dokmus… Looks exciting…. have you tried Joraku? I request if you can please do a review of King is Dead, Joraku and Rumble Nation. All have some what similar mechanism.
I've not played Joraku. I've reviewed both other games.
Quite liked samurai but ended up selling it after my third game of Babylonia.
Really looking forward to play my copy of Dokmus and its expansion. I really like Samurai, however I prefer it with four players (ok with 3 also). Shipyard left me a kind of "meh" experience, will not play it again.
How does Samurai compare to Babylonia (if you have played that)? I have heard/read from some that it replaces it, but I'd be curious to hear your thoughts..
Thanks for the content, Dan! Always cool to see what is on your play pile.
I see them as quite a bit different. I own both and love both. Babylonia is my favourite Knizia game if you weren't aware.
@@ChairmanoftheBoard Great to know, thanks! I saw it at my FLGS recently and has been persistently in the back of my thoughts, but Samurai has been on my want-to-try list for some time.. Doesn't bode well for my wallet, haha.
I just played Samurai and Babylonia back-to-back recently to see if I should get rid of one, and although I think I may prefer Babylonia by a hair, I think I'm still holding on to both for now :)
@@christianbank393 Feels like I'm gonna have to dive into some Knizia designs (and the FLGS) 😅 Just got a copy of the new edition of Ra; very excited to table it!
I love Samurai as well - one of my initial purchases when I started the hobby in the late 90s. I like that everyone starts with the same 20-tile set, although they become available to each player in different sequences.
I like the 'card game' version as well, although its retheming as "Pollen" has better aesthetics.
