Great job on your first loaf! That’s awesome!! Taking the plunge into baking with your starter is the most intimidating part, now you’re off!☺️ It’s delicious and so nice to always have in your home. Congratulations and enjoy that beautiful family!🥰

I don't usually score my bread, because it will burst open, and it has a different look every time.

You did fine it will get easier as you go I promise. Think of sourdough like art and everybody's will be different you will get to a point where you can do it by feel (mostly). Anyway for a crustier crust get a spray bottle and mist the top of the loaf before putting it in the oven- if you don't have a water bottle you could also wet your hands and gently rub the top but a mist will give a more even coverage. The steam created by the water will also help it rise a little more while baking and gives it a nice color. Some say to put ice cubes in the bottom of the dutch oven but I never found that to go well for me the moist mist layer was better in my opinion. Hope this helps!

You did great ☺️ although I've never tried, all the tutorials I've watched, has them preheating the oven AND the Dutch oven w/ lid....good luck! I'll get courageous enough one day 🫣

Try rising the dough in a different pot on parchment paper and put the Dutch oven with the lid in the oven while you preheat the oven. Very carefully remove the Dutch oven and drop the dough with parchment paper into the pot, replace the lid, put back in the oven and follow cooking instructions as usual

    pre heat Dutch oven

I’ve never done sourdough, but everyone I’ve watched preheats the Dutch oven and then “drops” the parchment paper and dough into it, covers with lid for a certain amount of time then takes the lid off to finish baking/browning 🤷‍♀️

One thing I was surprised to see was that your recipe didn't have you put your dough ball into a hot cast iron pan. Most of the recipes I have seen have you preheat the cast iron pot, then add the dough and cover. I think this gives you the more crusty bread. I also bake at 500, for a bit then drop the temp. Maybe try a different recipe. Your dough did look good, it will be sticky and should get less sticky the more you do the stretch and folds.
