So guys with this video, I think it's time to step away from Innastrad a bit. I'll still be doing a lot on the plane and the set, but it just seems like my channels been all SOI all the time! Let's mix some older lore in for good measure :D any suggestions??

This is the moment when Avacyn finally lost it. Based on this I personally believe that someone (Probably Nahiri) tried to pull Avacyn from Innistrad to Zendikar and failed. This is what may have caused Avacyn to begin to go crazy. It is possible that the Chain Veil has weakened her or helped fuel the madness but I don't think that it was the Chain Veil alone which brought her to begin killing the humans.

I agree with you, I believe Nahiri is summoning something, I mean she's 'Nahiri, the HARBINGER' literally means she's supposed to announce or signal the coming of something else.
Seiben, I think you are on the right track with your theory about the Chain Veil. The origins of the Veil, the Identity of the Raven Man, and the Mastermind behind them both may play a major part in the SOI block.
I hope we go to Shandalar to solve the chain veil and get some ogre equipment tribal. Standard has been pretty lenient to artifacts recently, so maybe.
But first we have that new plane. Good catch on that Garruk Art, anyway!
This was an excellent video. That card art for Garruk's Wake was very relevant. Those vessel things are all over the artwork for Mindwrack Demon. The name of the card also sort of implies its involvement with Avacyn's corrupted thoughts. Mindwrack, however, isn't legendary, so it's possible that Nahiri is summoning many of these demons. If all the bad creature archetypes are out to kill humans, and the good ones are protecting them, it seems the only way to get rid of the humans would be to turn the good creature archetypes against them, such as the angels. What I don't understand was how the corrupted magic got to Avacyn. She's not wearing anything new and she couldn't have been fed it.
I hope Nicol Bolas has something to do with this block

interesting theory. I could see it having something to do with the chain veil. perhaps Liliana had an encounter with Avacyn and something happened? It's fun the speculate but I have a feeling Wizards is going to take the easy route and go with Emrakul. Still wouldn't mind seeing Emrakul at some point but maybe not so closely after a whole block dedicated to the Eldrazi but I guess maybe getting it over with in one shot isn't so bad either so they can focus on newer stories or re-visit old ones with new problems. Great video as always!

in the last story it said something about the drownyard pulling something giant from behind the moon, but jace looks up and see nothing, this makes me think that it is emerikal. jaces visions made it seem that someone is trying to blame liliana to throw him off the trail of solving the mystery.
You know, I think you're right about the Chainveil affecting Avacyn. Though I think Nihiri there to exact revenge on Sorin for letting her homeworld suffer and thus she attempts to summon the remaining Eldrazi titan to Sorin's homeplane to make him as she once did.
Holy shit. First time being first. I remember proposing a similar theory before the set released, before being shot down. I honestly think irs nahiri is corrupting avacyn, as while avacyn is always called an angel, she was created by Sorin, she is technically a *construct* nahiri's specialty.
fair point with the chain veil. however I think the one corrupting the angels is Ormendahl because we really don't know much about him other than he came right after griselbrand died. for all we know he could be very powerful and highly intelligent.
maybe they are working together but nahiri is trying to summon a demon lord for Liliana and at same time Liliana is corrupting innistrad for nahiri
I think we get to know more to Garruk's history in the next block. I hope to see a new plane, the plane that Garruks planeswalked to after Jace tried to get him back.
I also think this would be a smart move by WotC, to not have 3 back to back blocks about returning to an already known plane.
The tendrils are probably the corrupting nature of Emrakul, seeing how all the titans have a "Wastes" connected to them, Ulamog being dust, Kozilek creating crystal esque landscapes, and Emrakul is supposed to have fleshy stuff appear.
And I think Nahiri would Know, she was Sorins old ally, and probably went to Innistrad back in the day and saw her, and she knew it would hurt sorin to have to kill his own creation.
What I think is going to happen, Innistrad is consumed by Emrakul, Werewolves have a reason to come back thanks to the Werewolf Planeswalker, Liliana gets pissed off and swears a black Oath, because her home just got eated to nothing.

buddy of mine had a good theory that nahiri turning the moon into a some sort of beacon calling for eldrazi, since shes pretty much a earth bender and has the know how she just needed a giant ball of metal to mess w, or you know maybe something like a moon made from literal silver n since avacyn is directly connected to the moon shes going a bit mad
I agree about the chain veil creating the purple tentacles, however as it is assumed that Nahiri made the cryptolyths and that the cryptolyths are distorting Innistrad's mana leylines, it would be resonable to accept that Avacyn and the other angels were corrupted by this as the angles are creatures made out of mana as oppose to regular matter.
In the booklet that comes with fatpacks it says Sorin knows exactly what Nahiri is doing. ALso the fact that she is the harbinger is reason to believe she is summoning something. That something being emrakul from Zendikar. the cyrptoliths probably form a beacon to guide emrakul there through the blind eternities.

Except that the drownyard temple article has a selection from Tamiyo's journal that says that the cryptoliths warp mana and it would have a profound effect on creatures made of pure mana, such as Angels. So Nahiri wouldn't even have to know about avacyn bc Her cryptoliths are warping the mana for another purpose and avacyn's madness was a by-product.

Am I the only one who is reminded of the Hilden from the _Legacy of Kain_ series? The more I get into Innistrad's story, the more parallels I see to that series.

did some reading... not alot but enough to know that Avacyn was attacked by a random spell by an unknown caster which caused her to go insane... and now the whispers are coming from the moon... and the moon is made of silver... I can see Nahiri being involved

I'm also wondering about the moon. I read something that was talking about the moon and that its being pulled on by something huge. I really wonder if innistrad is acting as a prison for some huge monster. Moon-silver was used in those stocks so what if a moon-silver moon is just the biggest prison in the multi-verse?

I like the chain veil theory. I quietly hope it is (in part) that. While obviously Nahiri is doing... Something or another. I'd like it to not *just* be her ploy (And thus almost certainly Emrakul)

I think that since the Angels are creatures of mana the chain veil is manipulating the mana that Nahiri is channeling and directing some red mana into the Angels, driving most of them mad.
You could always go back to the phyrexians and their role in the multiverse, that's always interesting.
If it is Marit Lage, I am going to send MaRo a Letter Bomb card.
1) The Purple energy in Liliana's Indignation seems to have a purple dragon head on the left edge of the card. Do we know what race was destroyed. (Was not Nicol Bolas the sole survivor or perpetrator of some dragon-slaughter? I am not very knowledge about the lore).
2) Nahiri seems to be involved as the leader of some cult?
3) What tie do you think Westvale Abbey, the new Demon, and the cult business in the first SOI Lore story have to do with the whole Avacyn/Nahiri deal?
At this point it's pretty much been confirmed that Nahiri & Emrakul are behind the madness on Innistrad.
Just look at the Player's Guide from the SOI Fatpack where Jace tries to convince Sorin to come help with Emrakul and Sorin suddenly realizing what Nahiri had been doing and him playing right into her plan. This is directly after he saves Jace and Tamiyo from Avacyn and "unmakes" her.
Also, it was stated before that Emrakul does turn the landscape into flesh and bone.
The Chain Veil being responsible doesn't really make much sense to me.
Doesn't it only warp and curse those it comes into contact with directly?
Seems a bit weird that it would affect the whole plane (also why just now and not sooner?)
And it's pretty clear that the madness going around Innistrad has also started to affect Jace himself, which led him to suspect Liliana in the first place. I'm honestly really interested in how his meeting with her will play out and wether she notices this and tries to help him after all in the next set. (It's pretty obvious that she's going to be part of the Gatewatch and it does seem like she still has feelings for Jacey boy)
Honestly, I'd love to see our little Blues Clues investigator go a little mad, I wouldn't mind a black/blue Jace.

And I don't think they're gonna make any of the Gatewalkers multi-colored..
Well, if any if the Gatewalkers have their own story, like how Jace does in SOI, I can see them having their own variations and multicolored form. And when the Gatewatch reforms to conquer a greater evil together, they'll surely go back to their monocolored forms.
What if Garruk somehow corrupted Avacyn when she tried to cure him? If I remember correctly they had some kind of interaction shortly after she cast the Cursemute so what if the brief connection between the two when the Cursemute touched Garruk caused a part of the curse to transfer to Avacyn? The tendrils or whatever they're called would be produced by Avacyn whose madness allowed Nahiri to implement her plan of revenge without being stopped by the Angels or Acacyn herself
Madness is one of the key mechanics. The first Tibalt combines perfectly with the madness cards. Nahiri was pure white and now she has and additional red at her mana cost. Nahiri is now mad. Avacyn also flips and turns red.
Red, red, red. Tibalt was double red, right? Hummmm...... nope, no pattern here.
Keep in mind that angels are being of pure white mana, thus a redirection of a plane's leylines could affect their behavior. Also, Avacyn is said to have been made using the moon. Thus if the leylines are being redirected and the moon controls the leylines, any effect on the moon could affect Avacyn. I still believe Nahiri to be at the heart of all of this.
you may joke about it but i would fucking love final boss garruk rise from the depths riding on the back of a mecha shiva of him emrakul and mairt lage. hell lets throw in some glistening oil as well for the hell of it.
It was the chain veil that turned Ob Nixilis into a demon when he couldn't control it.
If Liliana fails what will it do to her.
For me, Nahiri and Liliana are working together. Because Nahiri created cryptoliths and Liliana left zombies around to guard Drownyard Temple. I like someone's theory that they are summoning a demon. Maybe they use corrupting force of chain veil to corrupt angels to take revenge on Sorin for Zendikar. For me this makes sense.
I believe that Ob Nixilis is behind Avacyn's madness. She did see the hedrons of Zendikar.
Last i knew garruk was captured by Odric on innistrad and taken to the church. Did i miss a lore point? Did he just planes walk away or something?
I don't think Nahiri is summoning Emrakul (at least not intentionally), she still thinks the Titans are trapped on Zendikar. So with that in mind I believe the stones have a different purpose. I do like the idea that the Veil is whats causing all the corruption.
With the latest story from WOTC, it's pretty obvious that Nahiri is very, VERY aware of Avacyn's origins. just a little note to keep in mind
Seiben, can you do more Ravnica lore? It seems kind of old, but I want to know the fate of the guilds, (which guild ended up winning?).
Most recently, Jace became the living guildpact, bringing Ravnica's guilds to relative peace. However, Jace has left for a little bit leaving room for more fighting. There is an article online about Karlov of the Ghost council.

this storyline has a lot of planeswalkers involved. will this block have more than 5 planeswalkers cards?
my guess is Nahiri and Lillian are working together to summon Marit Leig. Marit is a black based creature so Lilly has a chance to control it and us it against the 2 remaining demons. and Nahiri could use it to destroy Innistrad. Those two working together isn't that far a leap since they are both pre-mending planeswalkers.
the only problem with this theory is that the chain veil seems to corrupt more through black mana than red like we are seeing the angels and Nahiri. I think that she either knows how important Avacyn is or how powerfull she is. Either way she could just be trying to make Innistrad suffer like Zendikar did.

Now, what Nahiri is Summoning is more likely to be an Eldrazi menace.
Luring a titan other than Emrakul would be fun.
If so, Innistrad wouldn't survive a single night.

I think it is not the chain veil and it is Nahiri because as stated in Nahiri's cult or something like that she says "I am going to take everything from you Sorin!"
What's behind Innistrad's madness? It's not Emrakul, it's Emrakul, it's not Emrakul again...oh wait, its Marit Large, no its Nahiri bending the planes mana to influence the the silver moon, no it's Lilliana and the Chain Veil. *sigh* Does anyone else feel like Jace watching Seiben's 'Read between the lines videos? Instead of answers, all I seem to get is more questions??
The Cryptoliths function similarly to how the Hedrons of Zendikar work. Both are lithomantic constructs that redirect mana and Leylines, however, the Hedrons bend the flow slightly so as to disturb the plane as little as possible. Don't say the Hedrons cause the Roil. That is actually the soul of Zendikar lashing out in pain due to a certain trio of Flying Spaghetti Monsters trapped under Akoum. The Cryptoliths forcibly redirect the leylines because Nahiri wants vengeance on Sorin, with no cares for the plane around her. Just like how all of the Hedrons could be traced to the Eye of Ugin, their Hedron nexus, the Cryptoliths all point to the Drownyard Temple, making it the Cryptolith's nexus. Given this information, Liliana couldn't have created the Cryptoliths. She has never shown any skill in lithomancy, nor has she demonstrated any knowledge of redirecting leylines. These two topics may seem disconnected, but angels are beings composed of pure white mana, no matter the plane. The Angels of Zendikar are relatively unaffected by the leylines altered by the Hedrons. This is where the harshness of the Cryptolith's redirection comes into play. They alter and twist the flow of mana, as stated on Warped Landscape, which would suggest that they also bend and twist beings composed of mana, like angels. As stated in "A Gaze Blank and Pitiless", Avacyn has a flash in her mind of floating, ornately carved obelisks all seemingly arranged in a network. Neither Liliana nor the Chain Veil have a concrete connection that we know about. Sorry for the wall of text, but I just wanted to clarify things for those a bit fuzzy on all of the goings-ons on Innistrad, and get a bit of theory-crafting out there.

If only there was a creature type that does well with corrupting [demons] but if that would be true then we would need a demon who has a lot to gain from Liliana being accused and a corrupted Nathiri summoning things and causing chaos [Ormendahl (He has to be a legendary creature for some reason now....)] Now all we need to do is find a goal for the "Profane PRINCE" well wouldn't you know it there just happen's to be two demon's who I bet are upset that Lili has been killing them off, so corrupt Nathiri to create whatever item it is to summon the demon lord of choice (again there's 2) Ormendahl stays in the shadows corrupts the angels to throw the scent onto Liliana and then all you need is a right time....lets for arguments sake say when the Eldrich Moon is full (wonder what the next set is called) And thus you have everyone going after everyone else a demon summoning a lord to cause havoic on a land ALMOST controled by another demon that got killed....Just saying
I know this is a bit out there, and some won't be too happy if what I'm about to say has the slightest bit of truth to it - but why has nobody mentioned Ob Nixilis? Hear me out.
Reasons Ob may be on Innistrad:
1) After leaving Zendikar, he was all for revenge - not only announcing action would be taken on the Gatewatch in the future, but prior to leaving he HATED Nahiri for imprisoning him on Zendikar for centuries. Probably more than the GW.
2) If the Chain Veil is involved - are we forgetting who else has had a big interaction with the Veil? It turned Ob in to a demon. This, surprisingly, was not welcomed by Ob. We don't know why, but he isn't a fan of his demon form.
So, maybe after leaving Zendikar, Ob decides Zendikar is probably done for, and decides to take the revenge he's been yearning for since his arrival on Zendikar - the one who kept him there for so long - OR - goes on the hunt for the Veil. In that time, Nixilis has gained a knowledge of lithomancy to almost rival the creator of the hedrons (Nahiri). He tracks her down to Innistrad and realises she's here for her own revenge - and she seems to be trying to bring about something huge. Not only does he witness this, but upon arrival he senses an object he hasn't encountered in centuries, the Veil.
From there, it could go anywhere. With Ob having knowledge of both lithomancy and experience with the Veil, the story would have many potential routes. Ob could see Nahiri's rage with total admiration, and in fact be helping her summon Eldrazi (remember, Ob summoned Kozi AND summoned Kozi eldrazi when he was torturing Nissa + Nissa, Jace and Gideon, and it was implied they didn't bear any hostility toward him). He sees Innistrad as having a plethora of uses - demonic beings (new army?), a chance to interact (good or bad) with the Veil, hell, perhaps he has some external influence on the Veil? He found it long before Lili or Garruk.
Aaaand at the end of the day, he's a warlord who loves watching worlds burn to add another notch to his metaphorical bedpost. Oh, and he's probably not big on angels - just sayin'.

i would say it depends on each particular case. In the web comics WOTC used to produce Venser met with Geth under the Vault of Whispers and was about the get his ass kicked but managed to escape(Geth is not currently a Praetor but if I remember correctly he is one of the contenders for Sheoldreds title). Also Gissa who used to be a planeswalker serves under Voriclex if I am not mistaken. Tezzeret attacked the Gitaxxians but stopped after a mere treat by Gin himself, and then diplomacy preceded. I would say most humanoid average planeswalker is weaker than the Praetors, but Gragon walkers like Bolas or Ugin will have no problem dealing with even all Praetor combined.
I think its Tibalt because Sorin wont let him do anything and everything he wants at Innistrad

Sadly I just thought if a reason behind the cryptoliths, either Nahiri is readying a huge spell, or she is trying to attract emerakul with a ton of mana in one place
Ok, so what I think is happening is this. I think Liliana is working with the Skarsdig clan. Think about it. They're everywhere. Now if Liliana's corruption is spreading like a disease through Innistrad, that would be a good way to do it. Ormendahl is the Prince of the Profane, so he might just enjoy the thought of her spreading the corruption through the plane, and want to work with her for his own ends.
Also, with Avacyn, I think what happened was Avacyn. having learned of what happened to her angel sister when Liliana broke the Helvault, decided to take revenge. Lilly then cursed her with the veil, and when the other angels tried removing it, it corrupted them as well.
One problem with that, she was corrupted after saving a random child who got lost in the forest (literally that is when she lost it).

Don't think Liliana is least on purpose corrupting Avacyn, doesn't she know Sorin created Avacyn, and Liliana is too scared of Sorin to cross him.

with what I seen and the info you have open before me. it could be they are working together or at least a common goal lilana nihar and the moon mage the angles maybe a by product dew to the. what if there trying to use the moon to break the chain veil cures nahir gets her pay back Lilana breaks the cruse and the moon mage I forget her name off hand gets to see the power of the moon at work just an idea

The veil is an artifact, and Nahiri is Kor, maybe she obtained the veil?
I'm still pretty sure it's Nihhiri's fault for corrupting Avacyn. I'm pretty sure that Soria would have either mentioned it to her during their travels or she's smart enough to assume that turning the angels against humanity would help her destroy Innistrad. As for the how, I'm going to point to the card "skin invasion", where Nihhiri found a way to bend it to her will and fit it to her perpous.....Oooooor Kiora drugged everybody's wine in a party after defeating the Elderazi and this is all an illusion.
In one of the weekly Magic Fictions, they said that the channeling of the mana on Innistrad (via cryptoliths) as angels are beings of pure mana. However, it also made it sound like that was unintentional... so cryptoliths corrupted the angels, but they aren't what the cryptoliths are for.
+Dapper Blook I'm confused: are you saying the cryptoliths are made from angels or directing the flow of mana to angels? But as a side note, I don't think that would affect Avacyn because she was the first angel to turn before converting others. If it was the cryptoliths messing with the angels, they all would have turned at the same time. I can reason that the cryptoliths are weakening the angels, thus allowing Avacyn to taint them so quickly.

Angels are made out of Innistrad's mana, (the specific phrasing used was "beings of raw mana") so are being tampered with I their very core. Or at least, that's what the official magic fiction says. Here's the specific bit where the article talks about it: The disruptive properties of the stones appear to also extend to an ability to warp the flow of mana through the region, with potentially severe effects for beings composed of raw mana-particularly the angels of the plane. Perhaps there's more to Avacyn's madness...

how isn't it obvious that nahiri is twisting the mana of innistrad to corrupt avacyn. I mean it seems like a no brainer or am i missing something here

+Ben Foster You are assuming that she *knows* what she is doing to the angels. She seems to be summoning something huge and not physically on the plane. The mana twisting is just the means to her end.
