  • Black Desert Online otherwise known as BDO is a buy to play open world sandbox MMORPG on PC recently released in the west for North America and Europe, since release I've put a lot of time into this MMO and very recently made the decision to quit the game.
    I wasn't gonna make this video but a tonne of people kept asking me "where's the Black Desert content" and "Peon are you still playing BDO" so I figured it'd be best to talk about it in this video.
    Are you still playing Black Desert Online? if not what made you stop playing? let me know in the comments below

    Are you still enjoying Black Desert Online? or has your hype for the game died with the extensive grind and RNG you need to go through every day? let me know in the comments below

    And the conclusion: This game is best played with a casual mindset. If you don't "have to be the best, or at least competitive" then you wouldn't feel like you had to buy all of that stuff and grind all of that stuff, and instead you'd enjoy the little things in the game.

      +Gaute Løken ...um you can't really.
      Everything in the game is designed to push you to the micro-transactions and compete as this video illustrates. You can't even just enjoy the world and explore because as soon as you hit level 45 you feel the pressure to grind and gear up or be pked while exploring and going about your business.
      I could get behind the ow pvp too if it weren't so screwed up and if there weren't so many performance issues associated with the game.
      It's just a trash title that they ported on the cheap and instead of tweaking it for a b2p environment they just slapped a price tag on it and expected everyone to be ok with all the micro-transactions still in place from the f2p KR version.
      Now that they honeymoon is over and the title has been out for a couple months, people are noticing the incredible pile of dog shit this game really is.
      The problem is that there are OP fanbois out there that don't want you trashing on their fav game because they know that there's no real endgame in BDO without fodder in the form of other players. Hard to have sieges and node wars if there isn't a constant flow of bodies coming into the game.
      Aside from the incredible environmental artwork and the fluid and intuitive combat style..the game really has nothing going for it....the little good design in it is overshadowed by obvious the laziness and greed of the development and publishing teams.

      How every korean mmo goes

    • @Mithon81
      @Mithon81 8 років тому +1

      Camil Abu Nasra Indeed. I'm usually like that, but for some reason I managed to put that aside for this title. Probably because my completionist tendencies, which leads me to want to do every quest etc. So, I enjoyed it, for a while at least, untill I grew bored and moved on. But it was good while it lasted.

  • @Morphologis
    @Morphologis 8 років тому +50

    I think we all failed to realize when we reviewed the game just how adept the Koreans are at making a P2W MMO. They have micro transactions down to an art, so that by the time you realize that you've spent a ton of money, it is already too late. I think from now on I will steer clear of mmo titles in general that use this sort of micro transaction model, which basically means won't be playing mmos for a long time.

      +Morphologis Korean mmos taught me the value of money really well after i blew alot of it on the first two games I played. Cabal Online 2k USD and Vindictus 1k USD. After that, I never spend more than $60 USD for a game. Continent Of the Ninth Seal $30 USD, League of Legends $40, Rusty Hearts $0 USD, Cabal 2 $0 USD, Swordsman Online $0 USD, Blade and Soul $0 USD, and Starcraft 2 I had to pay $60 then $30 for HOTS and LOTV.
      Black Desert Online I only spend initial $30 USD. I have been using loyalty to increase weight limit. The story quests give u gold ingots, inventory, weapons, accessories, armor, and black stones. I find no need to spend any more money on the game.

    People - Please take note of how many times he points out that he doesn't like X because you need to do it to be competitive. I started playing WoW when I was a teenager, and I have fond memories of having nothing better to do with my life than play that game as soon as I got home from school. As someone with a degree and a real job now, I don't have that kind of time commitment. Why am I talking about this? I recently started getting deep into BDO, and I can honestly say I haven't had this much fun playing ANY game since my first experiences with Vanilla WoW. The reason why? You can do SO many things, and they're all fun, and you can play the game however you want, but most importantly, you don't HAVE to be competitive to do so. Peon seems to be looking at this game from the perspective of being among the top ranks of players, and yes, that takes a ton of time and effort... but if you play the game simply AS A GAME and to enjoy yourself, you will find it to be extremely enjoyable. While it may be ironic for an MMO, one of the things I loved while leveling to the soft cap was the fact that I didn't need to interact with any other players. I got to learn the game at my own pace, and I wasn't required to learn about a dungeon system or understand group comps for co-op quests... People are overwhelmed by the amount of htings available to do in this game, but in reality it's not overwhelming, because you don't HAVE to do anything you don't want to do. The 'Life Skills' system blew my mind and I wanted nothing to do with it, for example, until I realized that I didn;t have to craft armor and do alchemy and do cooking and do fishing etc etc... You pick the things you like and you can just as effectively do ONLY those things as you could do EVERYTHING.
    My advice for anyone who has been longing for a fun gaming experience for years now (like myself after I decided WoW didn't fit my lifestyle anymore) would be to play this game. I have loved every minute of it, from dying to learning.

    • @KevinHPhotography
      @KevinHPhotography 8 років тому

      Solid Review. I also don't play that much anymore because same as you, I have a degree and a fulltime job now. And, for the past weeks I have been looking for a good MMO to play. I really like how BDO looks, but I don't know if I would/should spend the $29.99 since I am not a hardcore gamer.

    • @stwida91
      @stwida91 8 років тому

      Kevin H I would seriously give it a try. At first I was totally overwhelmed by everything, but like I said above... once I decided that I was only going to focus on fishing, learning the node system, and understanding my class rotations in pve, it became outrageously fun. And knowing that there's all of that other stuff to learn about later only makes it more exciting to me, because I can SEE how much there is that I don't know. The variety in the classes is also great, they all feel very different when playing.

    • @incosciente2994
      @incosciente2994 8 років тому +7

      I totally agree with your comments, and IMHO the problem is that lot of players don't play MMORPG to role playing, exploring maps/world, going deep in story and PvE; their final objective is to "make cool" and camper in the major cities with last-high-end sword or piece of gear.
      It's so funny read comments like "I don't want to WASTE my time levelling...", nonsense :D

      @SushiCatto 8 років тому +6

      Yup. I have to concur. I've been getting back into WoW, and so many people complained about the "lack of content".
      ...this being the same people showing off because they hit max level in under a week by farming dungeons with +80% xp. They're sat complaining about the lack of content, despite not having played most of it.

    • @gregmcallister2194
      @gregmcallister2194 8 років тому +5

      You are so dead on. Every one that complains about pay to win is actually saying I don't want to play and MMO - I want to play a fight game where I can buy the best armor, best weapons and beat on other players. My interest in games has always been the story, the tales, the learning the of the economy and interactions of player to environment and finally the socialization between people that play for the same reasons I do. Sure I PVP but only if I need to or want to not because I have to or feel it is the only thing to do. If I want straight fighting then I would play any one of thousands of FPS or arena based games. The haters need to quite playing MMO's for the 2 minute level to the top. Really, why don't you try to play the game.

That said....this is just a game and I really do not care about the enjoyment level of elite players. My friends and I are happy and that is really all that matters to us. Does that make me inconsiderate? No. We may play the same game but We live in vastly differing gaming spheres.

    This made me not want to get it. But then I remembered that I'm not a competitive player at all.
    I heard BDO had a great variety of things to do even if you weren't a siege/pvp sort of guy. Work takes up most of my time so I wouldn't have the time to grind for hours every day anyway. I just want to get back home and do some fishing or crafting or whatever for half an hour or an hour and then go sleep.
    So for someone like me would be it be worth it to get?

      You gonna love it for the first weeks, maybe one whole month. Its worth it to play like 29 euros and have a month of fun, even more for you because you don't play a lot. After u reach a higher level, there is no monster to kill, there is just nothing. The bosses feel the same, the other things you have already done, u just have to grind, to play the other fun thing, pvp, which will be terrible if u dont have good gear, after 50 you are not safe anymore, the people will attack you, and the only way to keep playing is to kill them too. Anyways, reach 49, pick another class, do the thing again, just don't bother to play it after 50. You gonna love it, hundreds of hours of fun for a cheap price. I spend like 15 hours just creating characters, really, its amazing.

    Another flavor of the month MMO bites the dust. Seeing the same cycle repeat itself time and time again: Hype, honeymoon, epiphany, exodus, obscurity.

    • @yabyab
      @yabyab 8 років тому +2

      +The Cadaver I don't regret playing BDO for over three months, in my standards that's HUGE success. A game that takes your attention for three long months is not easy to do. What do you want to do, invest all your life playing this game? come on. Saying that, BDO could have given me years of playtime only if they've made PvE more interesting rather than "gathering a horde of monsters then blow them away with 1-2 hits all the way since level 1 to level 55." and not to mention the brainless "boss" and "world boss" fights which really are nothing but "attack them and don't die".
      There's not class inter-dependency. There are no roles to play. There are no variety in monsters; except melee/range basically. You don't "adapt" to anything; it's just gathering them and blow them up. There's no feel of "Oh, we're going to ascend into a dangerous area; friends get ready for tough fights and let's work together to overcome the challenge." This kind of gameplay, to me, IS the bread and butter for hours of fun. Resource Management combat with a group of friends working together to venture through a very dangerous place. Of course there are a few monsters inside who drop the ph4t l00t you want; instead of scroll bosses we just delve in a dungeon and kill its bosses for a chance for a loot. That game play would have made me play the game way way way longer; instead of this brainless solo hording and the ridiculous world boss zerg-fest.

      Of course it is, that and physics is what makes the world go round. What I was referencing is his statement towards the end, that despite all these "issues" Black Desert is a good MMO and he had fun for one month ... but not much fun after that. That's fine for a single player game --- bought it, played it, had fun for one month ... but an MMO needs to sustain itself month after month.

      +CJS929 From what I can see this game won't push big numbers but I think what helps it a bit is that it looks "too beautiful" to not play for most. Who knows when the next MMO will do extremely well.

    • @Nazareadain
      @Nazareadain 8 років тому

      +CJS929 It isn't from a business perspective, but a lot of MMOs use skinner box strategies, overinvestment, loss aversion and sunk cost fallacies to prolong their lives. I'd rather fun and be done than be dragged through from obligation, and luckily, I'm not invested in the PvP (yet, anyway) and practically play it as a single player game. The second how I'm playing is comparative and I'm competing with other players, I'd be just as frustrated, though due to the stat benefits the armours give. Shit like elion's tears, though - nah - I'd re-level a ranged class at that point and be at an objective advantage. Makes it pretty clear how badly balanced some of those elements are.

    This is why I've turned to MOBAS/Arena shooters in general, for example I see Mobas as a mini version of an mmorpg, you get to late game in 1 game, there's pve (laning, jungle, camps and objectives) and pvp (the players, teamfights), there's the gear (items) you get to max level and to end game in 1 game and you have fun and get to enjoy it over and over again, that's why I love the MOBA genre because it's the mini version of MMOS and it's the best part you enjoy when you have fun, and no grind, cheers :) love Smite btw

    Yes, I could tell all these things from the first week I played >.<
    I was like "keep my money... Byeee" and I quit right away because the creatures are too easy, boss fight is dumb, there's no story, just running somewhere takes forever, etc., etc. There was nothing that requires skill or thinking; it's just about buying advantage (as you mentioned) and having no life.
    I think many people that play BDO are the same kind that can sit in a lobby in "Second Life", doing nothing for hours. They have no exciting life, so they do not even know when something is boring. It's sad but I guess that's their life.

      Some people don't play games to be engaged in a Dark Souls manor, some play to be engaged in a communal and immersive manor.

    Well said...
    I have actually quit BDO for the exact same reasons you have mentioned in this video.
    That being said however, 'lag' was another big reason for me as I live in Australia, playing on North American servers.
    Ultimately BDO's end game content for (for the most part) is pvp based, which takes a rather large toll and becomes a very apparent problem for people playing in Oceanic regions.
    I still think the game was a lot of fun but in the long run it was not a sustainable or worthwhile use of my time.

I was looking forward to some Black Desert videos from you, but I understand you don't want to get labeled the "Black Desert video guy". People shouldn't be attacking you for your opinions. I do not agree that its pay to win. A lot of that extra weight and inventory slots can be purchased with loyalty points. It's a fun game regardless if you are the top geared player...there is just too much to do. Sieges will be fun regardless, Sea combat will be loads of fun... We love your videos, we just disagree with some of your points. Keep up the great work. You are our favorite UA-camr. :)

      +Jennifer Matt Loyalty points lol. Read the loyalty item description(on the weight/inv increases), you can only purchase them using loyalty points like 2 times then they lock it. You have to pay if you want more. And what about the pay to win costumes? the fishing one, the horse training one, the ghillie suit on a midget ranger? Let's not forget about the pet's either, or the elion tears. Alone, these are pay for convenience items, but together, they create a pay 2 win environment.

      10 years, 15 dollars a month. Ok.
      1 month and 500 dollar + $150 to get the game.

    @ringosis 8 років тому +15

    I quit the game half way through the free beta week for pretty much the exact same reasons. I can't believe anyone who is even remotely familiar with online video games couldn't see it coming with BDO. It's entire design philosophy was so obviously built around annoying you into spending money. I dunno about anyone else, but personally, if a developer deliberately makes their game not fun to try and convince you to pay real money to make it less tedious, I'm not going to be touching their game with a barge pole.

    • @jagerlionruiz8639
      @jagerlionruiz8639 8 років тому

      I bought the game. I haven't spent a y money since? where's this I have to spend money philosophy.? buying the game is justifiable idk what you're talking about if not that.

    • @ringosis
      @ringosis 8 років тому +4

      I didn't say you have to spend money, I said the game is shit if you don't. The game deliberately puts exceptionally tedious barriers in the way of your progression in the hopes that you'll just say "Fuck it, I can't be bothered doing this" and spend money. It's the WORST kind of game design.
      BDO's problem can be summed up with one inevitable outcome. When you do stop playing BDO, I absolutely guarantee you it wont be because you are satisfied that you achieved the goals you set out for yourself and you feel like you've done what you set out to do and are ready to move on...it will be because you've spent hundreds or even thousands of hours trying to achieve the goals you set out for yourself and you are still no where near and the only option left to you is to admit defeat or spend money because the goal posts keep moving.
      You will quit not because you are satisfied, but because you are infuriated...that's BDOs problem.

      Armor ripped out of the game and put into the cash shop. Red Flag.
      3 Different packs that give HEAD STARTS, one being $100. Red Flag.
      I could keep going. Anyone even slightly familiar with MMO's should have been able to see this coming, and at that point, I honestly don't feel bad for people who ended up quitting because of the grind and pay to win bullshit, after paying 100 dollars for what was already pay to win bullshit.

    • @XRiZUXGamer
      @XRiZUXGamer 8 років тому

      I think it would be better if MMORPGs removed "leveling" and instead focused on the role-playing part. Maybe unlocking a new skill after beating a boss, and having the combat be only focused on how skillfully you are playing solo as well as in a group.
      I mean what is leveling other than a waste of time anyway? (to keep players busy) - Imagine if you could just create your own unique character, and do whatever you want from that point without thousands of quests to grind levels, the goal of the game being your own and unique. Without the focus of leveling up a character, I think a lot more focus would have gone to actual role-playing, and in return would make the experience a lot more interactive and interesting.

    People just can't think. The amount of time that you have to spend grinding experience over 55 pretty much forces you to buy tears to avoid exp loss on death. LazyPeon talks about world bosses but did not mention that you need L56 to use the awakened weapons. If you think levelling up to 55 is bad, well.... yeah.The game is a cash grab, like almost every single MMO released these days. They were just a bit more clever with hiding it until they have gotten people to commit to the game and invest into it. People don't like having to face that reality, which is why they lash out at anyone who points it out.That said, this is probably the best game on the market for people who do not have any real life obligations and no budget concerns.

    I dunno. Your complaints about this game sound like the complaints I have about every single MMO I've ever tried to play. I hate MMOs because they don't respect player time at all, and are insanely grindy and fetch-questy.

    • @SuddenFool
      @SuddenFool 8 років тому

      play WoW then as you can put auto clicker on your main ability and play anything else and just alt tab to wow every 5 mins to click space so you never go afk.

    • @Pichuscute
      @Pichuscute 8 років тому +12

      SuddenFool That sounds terrible. I'd rather go play actual games, like Final Fantasy or Uncharted or Mario Kart than have some MMO that plays itself or that requires grinding forever. That's not fun and doesn't respect my time or give me anything worthwhile from playing. At that point, you've taken all the entertainment out of a medium that's supposed to be entertainment.
      It's like telling someone the movie is fine as long as you keep your TV off and then turn it on every few minutes to make sure it's still playing. Lmao.

    • @Chocomunchie
      @Chocomunchie 8 років тому +1

      Not all MMOs are the same, though, and this game's problems are certainly not the epitome of the genre. This is just one example of a poor business modeled MMO. Since you like Final Fantasy, you might like Final Fantasy XIV. Though, that was probably a stupid suggestion, because I don't know whether you're an open-minded FF fan, or one of those "it's not a true FF game durr hurr" players. If anything, it's an MMO that'll feel familiar and you'll at least enjoy the FF fanservice and references, job system, as well as its world and lore. The quests and main story are also fantastic, and not exactly boring, though your time will still be required.
      Though, that's the thing about MMOs, you're not supposed to play it all at once. It's one step at a time. You're supposed to play them on and off over time to progress. It's supposed to last, as opposed to single-player games that you can beat in a week and then you're done with it. And it's not like you have to only dedicate your time to that game. Once you get your fill and want to switch over to a game that doesn't take as much time, those games are still there, they're not going anywhere. MMOs are also a social experience, teaming up with friends or strangers and dungeon crawling, celebrating holiday/seasonal events, hanging out, or what have you. It's a pity you can't find the appreciation for the genre, but, to each their own. I hope you one day come around, though. And heck, maybe XIV will be the one to change your mind, who knows.

    • @Pichuscute
      @Pichuscute 8 років тому +1

      Chocomunchie I am an open-minded FF fan, although I totally understand why you'd be worried. xD
      That being said, I have tried FFXIV before, and I didn't enjoy it very much at all. It seemed to be filled to the brim with fetch-quests particularly. I gave it maybe 5 hours, and then gave up. xP
      I will say that the social aspects do absolutely nothing for me, though. So, if that's the majority of what an MMO offers, then I don't really care for it.
      Since posting this, though, I will say that there are a couple MMOs that I have enjoyed for some amount of time. ESO I enjoyed because I could just play it as a single player Elder Scrolls game (with the quests and story still intact, thank god). Although, I've now hit a level wall, and grinding in an Elder Scrolls game sounds particularly terrible, so I'm probably done with it. Elite: Dangerous's world and mechanics are so inherently interesting to me that I don't mind that I'm technically doing fetch-quests. They also reward you a lot for spending just, say 5-10 minutes at a time, which makes me actually feel good about playing.
      So, I guess the entire genre isn't lost on me, just these more grindy type MMORPGs. XP

    • @Chocomunchie
      @Chocomunchie 8 років тому +1

      Benjamin Busche Well, the first several quests in the earlier zones are pretty fetch-questy, but it improves. I guess they just want you to get used to the locations first, with those. But, yeah, I get ya, man. To each his own, I suppose. And yeah, the FF fanbase, man.. Definitely a mixed bag. xD I hope you find other MMOs out there that fit your standards.

      yes that is true but BDO Is a grind, it doesnt have a grind. Also most MMO's have grinds that end at some point when you get what you need. BDO and other Korean MMO's love to make you grind and then when your about to get what you're going for they strip it away and make you do it all over again. So when it is an endless grind it gets old and boring doing the same thing for the entire time you play it. But by all means if you like it then play it I'm not going to tell you or anyone not to. Also I can only play on the weekends, as I have work + gym during the week. I think this game is very entertaining for casual players that like to have actual content outside of the endgame.
    If you (like you said in the video) don't enjoy all the content of this game except for this little part of pvp, then maybe you are right. You would be better off with just playing battle arena games. This is no hate btw, because you points you brought up are valid. Grinding and endgame is what MMORPGS are ALL ABOUT ! you must know that. That is the reason people play them, to develop their characters over time, in a social inviorenment where you meet and talk to other people. The satisfaction of getting gear or titles that you worked so hard for is what its all about, those are the experinces that last, no one remembers or cares about being afk in a raid getting gear for no effort at all.
    But i agree with you, that so much of the levling experinces and the grind to get to late game in these mmorpgs are just terrible, its quest upon quest of boring find x, kill x etc etc. I don't understand why the leveling progress can't be interesting from start to finish, like single player rpgs are, Witcher, ALL elderscrolls game morrowind oblivion skyrim, fallout etc...

    I don't get exactly what Play to Win means in MMO's? Is it beating the main quest line as fast as possible? Beating other players? I've never been about PVP in any game, I really hate playing against other people. I just find competition with others in games to be unneeded stress in my life. To me it's usually just about being immersed in another world where I can do cool stuff, maybe meet a few nice people :).

    • @jonfindlay7838
      @jonfindlay7838 8 років тому +2

      It is generally meant for pvp situations but some pve content is also competitive and people who pay would have an advantage there as well. Eg. more inventory space, weight limits, potions.

      Pay to win essentially means you have to pay money to win,which is certainly true here

    • @GekoHayate
      @GekoHayate 8 років тому +1

      In a game where potions are your healing method and you have a limited weight capacity, victory in a 1v1 could boil down to who spent the most money to get the largest potion carrying capacity.
      It isn't play to win by the way, the phrase is "pay to win". Winning in a p2w model (pvp, loot drops or w/e) is often dependent on if or how much additional money you spent on the game.
      GW2 is an example of a game that has a cash shop that is almost entirely cosmetic/toy items and have no real effect on gameplay. A person who throws a thousand dollars into gw2 on top of the disc cost has no more chance of getting an item drop or winning a duel than a person who just paid for a copy of the disc.

    • @TheLesExit
      @TheLesExit 8 років тому

      ***** Oh ya I meant "pay to win" sorry D:. For loot drops and 1v1 I can understand where the problem comes up. Cause then effort or skill means nothing, as long as you're a person capable and willing to dump a bunch of money into a game. Though I guess I can kinda get why these makers of these games would do it to make money, even though its annoying to so many players :(. I used to play Gaiaonline, but the cash shop utterly destroyed the economy of the game.

    • @azinyefantasy4445

      You need to play more games lol. In some games, money can give you access to dungeons with no one in them and so you just farm an empty dungeon to max lvl. In another game the bosses dropped loot for last hit. 50$ would buy you a ruby that increased your attack by 3500. Now pair that with a skill that does 8+ combo and you are guaranteed the last hit 95% of the time. I have quit also 34+ games because premium players basically would soak my head in water and use it to clean their premium only mansion.

    I'm still really enjoying BDO. :\
    I never went full Korean on it, just playing it slow... I don't find the gearing up process that bad. The accessories can be nerve wrecking though.
    Really enjoying the PvP, and the grind is pretty bearable (and actually enjoyable) if you don't go for hours on end and instead just try to get S rank knowledge on each mob, listen to a podcast or just monkey around with friends on teamspeak for an hour or so, and then go do something else for fun... Most of the folks that I see have burned out from it are the ones that just spent 6 - 8 hours a day on the game since release to be at the top of the curve. And to be honest, I'm surprised they lasted this long on that kind of regime.
    I've spent ridiculous amounts of money as well on the cash shop hehe Mostly on different outfits (main and alts), horse skins and weight increase for convenience.
    Still, for the amount of time I've spent playing BDO since release, no buyers remorse. Pretty good bang for the buck, at least in my case :) Haven't bought another game at all since I started.

    I hate to admit that I'm starting to feel the same about the game. I couldn't even describe how much I've loved this game up to this point, there's just so many things to like but alas the things that I hate are starting to overshadow the good. As far as grinding for levels go I don't really mind that as much because I feel while it takes to reach say 54 or 55 (Currently level 53) it feels like its worth it to me cause its quite a bit of a power spike, ESPECIALLY 55+. But the thing that is burning me out the most by far is the RNG bullcrap in this game. I'm sitting on 30 fail stacks on 2 characters (it WAS three but I used 30 on one of them to fuse a bares necklace) and that's just from trying to get my grunil boots and gloves from 13 to 14 and I still didn't get either of them upgraded. That's a shit ton of armor stones and money down the drain. I knew full well going into this game it was going to be an RNG fest, but even I have my limits, and I think I've reached them. Such a shame.

Modern shooters do it and GW2 does it, the latter probably being the only MMO where fun can be had at a moments notice since everyone is pretty much equal in pvp mode.
    This doesnt mean GW2 doesn´t cater to the elite, there are only small bonuses to be had however and skill mostly prevails at the end combined with class balance, GW2 also has grinding or full story mode to get to the highest level. There are a few other things about GW2 I dont like though and couldn´t continue playing it for several reasons, that being said, if GW2 had such a well functioning crafting/housing/economy system in place I would be playing it all day long.
    The thing is that the player base will never agree on the "time wasting" issue, I find any kind of grinding to be a time waste, other people love to just go around collecting stuff. Some want gear to be hard earned, others don't care and would rather see everyone on an even level. The big problem devs face is to please the casuals and lets face it, they outnumber the elite. At the same time they have to make sure the seasoned players come back for more, to strike a balance here is incredibly difficult.
    I tried BDO at my brothers and found it to be too time consuming, like Peon states, sometimes we just want instant fun without necessarily having to switch games.

      +Aurio DK Well said. I played GW2 for like 2 hours at a friends, and I liked the PvP system where you get a "temporary" lvl 80 to just try out pvp with other players. But also can get the full RPG experience, and, supposedly, a decent one at that.

    I totally understand where you're coming from mate, I've been playing a little over 6 weeks and i still feel that I'm disgustingly weak even when cresting 110 ap and 147 dp, probably the only reasons I continue to play are because I find the game really immersive and fun alone (grinding aside) and even more so with friends. and I'm used to harder grinds tbh (Nine Dragons flashbacks).

    I've watched quite a few of your first impressions videos recently. I find them really interesting, but I think a part of why you're unable to enjoy many of them, is that you're constantly comparing them to WoW. While sometimes that's totally fair, I think you should try to get a broader perspective in. Some games choose to have a slower pace, some games choose to have an instanced world. Even stopping and reading the quest text makes the leveling process a lot more fun in many cases, since not all of them are written or translated as badly as say Black Desert. Instead of getting angry at certain things in games, I'd like you to think why the developers went that way.
    If you play a game with another games rules, you will never enjoy it, no matter how good it actually is. Keep that in mind in the videos to come, and I'm sure they'll be even better. And I'm sure you'll find new things on MMO's you'll find enjoyable.
    Cheers

    Poor, TheLazyPeon, one day he praised the game like it was the new coming of Jesus; then the next day, he trash it to the ground. After spending 500 Euros no doubt.

    I disagree. Glad you're leaving tho, not because I don't like you but because I hate when MMOs are filled with players that claim they hate the game.

    3:43 This is why I really loved leveling in TOR. It wasn't great as an mmo, but the progression through the class story alongside the main one was a lot of fun.

    This really helped me decide if I wanted to play this game or not. I'm not into grindy ass games and where the more money you throw at it puts you ahead of other players. I'm glad i didn't waste my time! :3

    these systems you complained about are in every. single. damned. korean mmorpg ever released in the west. every single one has them. every. one. no exception.
    korean mmorpgs are garbage and have been. i swore after 2moons i would never buy another and after playing some free trials recently of korean mmorpgs that have released since then and seeing that they are ALL THE SAME still....yeah, just stick to western mmorpgs.

      best alternative? if you mean sandbox, nothing beats eve online. if you mean mmorpg - i could rattle off at least a dozen titles.

      ah yes, the usual counter-argument of the internet intellectual - personal attacks. Your lack of mmorpg experience is showing.

    • @blackyvertigo
      @blackyvertigo 8 років тому +4

      you were 6 when I was 24 and you proceed to lecture me. too funny. your mmorpg experience is jaded by the inexperience of youth, so you can't possibly have an objective outlook or opinion on these games or the genre on the whole.
      I have played pretty much every mmorpg released in the west. I used to play all korean mmorpgs day one until i saw the pattern, and waited for their inevitable free trials. I still play my first MUD 22 years after first logging into it, because good games are worth it and good games stick around.
      You were the one who brought up older games first, chief. Again, your inexperience is showing. At least try to remember what you just posted.
      And if you really want to compare action mmorpgs only (NOT mmo's, that label is applied to game that are NOT mmorpgs and morons continue to think they are the same damned thing) then both ESO and Wildstar are better games on the whole, with neither having predatory cash shops. both have pay-to-win aspects in thair cash shops, but NOWHERE near as bad as this, and they don't add such a ridiculous and punishing crafting system as the same god damned enchanting system that EVERY SINGLE KOREAN MMORPG has used the last 13 years.

    I couldnt agree more to you to all mentioned aspects. I spent 340€, 2 weeks of holiday, joined a progressive guild, my PC was running 24h a day and spent next to work all my free time. But its not enough to be top, youll need to spent all your live to grind...
