Sometimes filing on your own may be complex. It seems like there was a study done a few years ago and it looked like less than 3% of Ch13 cases filed on their own ended in a discharge. So, it seems like since Ch13 is so complex over 90% of the people that file it on their own don’t do it successfully. Just something to keep in mind!
@@AscendFinance hmm Don't know that I'd necessarily conclude it is the result of 'complexity,' as the myth the law can't be ascertained by non lawyers works to a lawyer's advantage. It could be a ProSe bias in the courts, could be the average IQ, and legal experience, in that pool wasn't very high, or key filings were missed due to bad government language, poor court instruction, etc. Hard to say really. My mom, a first grade teacher, no legal experience, many years ago, probated both her estate and my dad's, after grandparents on both sides died about the same time. She bought a book from Barnes and Noble, and had no advice from a lawyer. Her Judge said he'd never seen work as detailed and good as her work, and wished the lawyers that came before him could do the work half as good as she did. I referred a friend to a lawyer recently to probate his mother's estate and the lawyer was confused, and nearly screwed it all up. My friend was not happy. Haha I've filed appeals, written 30 pages of legal argument and won, by unanimous decision. My mom and I are likely unique, sure, but studies can be the devil, especially today with them being used more as propaganda to deter people from all manner of tasks, including ProSe legal work. Is it legal to put a lien on the bank account when the person receives monthly SSI direct deposit payments? And can a person get the money back after completing the filling of a chapter seven getting the debt discharge?

I understand you're not giving legal advice. I am going to file chapter 7 soon but I got served by a credit card company and the court date is later this week. I see no reason to go as they are right and I do own them. Should I try to file my chapter 7 before that date. I'm assuming they will get a default judgment but it's concerning to me. Any help or advice would be appreciated. BTW: I liked your video. It was short and concise and dispelled some of my concerns.
