I love kyoraku, he reminds me so much of the Nara clan in Naruto. He's so knowledgeable of everything, but doesn't want to deal with it till he has to, but when he does... He just solidly handles it.
Indeed. He's a deadly warrior yet maintains a solid moral compass. This was seen when he stopped Nanao from finishing Chad, his frantic insistence on her not doing that clearly showed he doesn't want her to have blood on her hands like he and many others do.
I like Yamammoto's spot. He was a murderous warlord who mellowed out into a lawful yet old fashioned leader without compromising his lethality. In that context Shunsui is a worthy successor not only because of his own ruthles deadliness in battle but because he's reformed Soul Society in many aspects while ignoring the old hardliners among the nobility and surviving Central 46 members. Aizne topping the list is expected.
Great list! My top 5 would be Mayuri, Aizen, Gin, Byakuya and Kenpachi. Honourable mentions being Kisuke, Unohana, Rukia, Shunsui and Isshin. Would love to see you rank your favorite Sternritters!
My favorite characters are written like Kisuke and Aizen - dark, smart and unapologetic - I agree that trying to list captains is a most difficult task - I believe Byakuya should be on the list since his character goes through a major personal transformation - and relationship change with Rukia - although not so much to do with being a captain- I would love to see a further breakdown of Aizen especially his early days with Gin and Tozen - speaking of Gin, one of my favorite story lines when his back story is revealed while "dying" in Rangiku's arms
Shunsui is my number 1 because he easily is the most dangerous. He battles with the mindset of live or die kill or be killed and i respect that because truly thats reality. Hot take most underrated character unohana.
I would put Shunsui at number 1 since he had big shoes to fill after Yamamoto died and handle the situation as best. Byakuya number 2 just for his character growth throughout the story

Being strong, intelligent doesn’t mean that you would become a good leader. Well, that is based on my observation in the leaders where I worked. There are lots of little things that must be considered. But I really like Kenpachi- he feels like my current department head.His aura oozes with confidence that whenever you are with him, you have confidence that he will never left you when bad things happened. He boosts your morale and it feels like he believes in you in very little words.
Good list man, only complaint is the lack of Tetsuzaemon Iba! Let’s not forget that Ayon, a beast that basically fights on instinct felt the need to cero him point blank before his attack connected. Clearly that means Ayon knew how strong he was so he had to dispose of Tetsuzaemon first before stepping on Momo, Rangiku and Kira.
Gin would be in my top 5 because, for me, he was the first sign that not every captain in the Gotei 13 is a good person. Gave you that first impression of how scary a captain's power can be. 1) Aizen 2) Kisuke 3) Shunsui 4) Yamamoto 5) Kenpachi 5.1) Gin

I'm Honestly tired of how fans rely on Bankai to be an explanation of why their favorite is so great. Moat Bankai are a cheat but they're not entirely unstoppable a clever enough opponent can over come ANY Bankai. Potentially even Ichibe Bankai can be overcame. Bankai is tool to use on the verge of death against an enemy capable of defeating the Captain without it. The only reason why Yamamoto and Unohana even Kenpachi and Ichibe used their Bankai was to accomplish their goal as quickly as possible. Aizen never had to even use his Bankai. Those are the top Shinigami strength, battle, Reitsu, kido etc. Shunsui is cool. It's definitely awesome character design but he doesn't belong at the top of any top 5 lists other than most likeable, developed, etc.
Shunshi going up against two opponents who use guns is probably intentional and poetic. Personally I've spent a handful of years learning martial arts. And I hate guns. Think they're lazy. The laziest way to fight. Shushi's opponents welding them kinda makes me laugh now.
My top 5 captains are Tosen, Gin, Mayuri, Unohana and Shunsui. I feel like Tosen's zanpakuto is up there Aizens but was downplayed in order to make Kenpachi appear stronger.
I personally don't like Urahara but I understand why people like him. I personally would've put Kenpachi above him since he could probably beat him in a fight if he doesn't give Urahara time to react

It depends on what you mean by strongest. Who would beat each other in a fight? Who’s more dangerous against others in a fight? Who has the most hax? Most reiatsu? For example, most people consider Yama the strongest (not counting CFYOW Kenpachi) But besides his Bankai which is hax to the point where his AP is boosted to the point it ignores durability, Yama’s physical stats are horrible (in comparison to the other strongest captains). In Shikai, using both his physical strength and Shikai flames, he could barely cut through Royd’s Blut, and when he was in Bankai, completely bloodlusted, rage amped, and specifically said he was going all out to end the fight as quickly as possible, he didn’t have the speed to speed blitz Royd, and based on Yama deflecting his arrows and stopping himself before he touched Church Song rather than tanking it with West + his durability, people on Royd’s level can damage and affect Yama’s durability Aizen only considered Yama dangerous because of his Zanpakuto and not really much else, and Yhwach also implied the same. Speaking of, Base Yhwach was stronger than Bankai Yama to the point of being able to control his Bankai’s full power casually Then we got people who most consider ‘weaker’ than Yama, like TYBW Kenpachi, Post Revival Bankai Toshiro and Adult Toshiro, Post 0 Squad Byakuya etc that can fight people like God Sized, Vollstandig, and Final Form Gerard. Even Base Gerard should have comparable or superior stats to Royd considering what Liltotto in the novel said about the elites compared to the regular Sternritter, which includes Gremmy. The trio could all individually keep up with Gerard’s speed, damage through his durability or his weapon’s durability (where weapons in Bleach can block attacks that can one shot the user’s durability), overpower him etc in various ways So their raw power and stats should be above Yama. So who would you say is stronger? The guy with lower stats but a one shot kill Bankai, or guys with superior stats but inferior hax (besides Toshiro’s hax, though you could argue Yama’s hard counters him)

I mean he was shown to be faster than the likes of ukitake and shunsui, so I wouldn’t say his physical stats were horrible, and ywatch never used his Bankai, he only stole it, and he also had massive amounts of riatsu since his shikai alone was consider bankai level and his bankai was in a scale completely above all other captains being not just able to destroy soul society just by existing but also being capable of resurrecting trillions of corses to the battlefield, so probably only the likes of aizen or kenpachi had more riatsu than Yamamoto, and even tho we don’t know how powerful royd was he was definitely a cut above the other sternriders since he was capable of manhandling kenpachi without getting a single scratch.
