Heavens Gate for Sure. Not only a simple cover exercise but a true reinterpretation with an excellent general arrangement. Wardrums one is well done but flat and generic. Heavens Gate guys are such fantastic musicians... Listen to Livin in Hysteria and Planet Earth for example. They are ultimate heavy metal and power metal heroes. Excellent !
My first time listening to Wardrum too although I heard of few songs by Yannis with Beast in Black. Vocally, I’d give to Wardrum (Yannis sold it) but as per musical arrangement, it has to be Heaven’s Gate. Guys, would like to hear your thoughts on Iron Maiden’s Hallowed by Thy Name covers by Cradle of Filth and Solitude Aeturnus.
A lot of bands had dropped the one album, that became by far their best and often a milestone in Rock and Metal history! And now that You both chose to give the victory to Heavens Gate, I have to recommend their album 'Living In Hysteria' (if You don't know it by now). It just got highs, no lows! And if You do an (album) reaction or not, You should at least give it a listen! 😉 By the way - I would go with Heavens Gate's cover as well. I love Yannis' voice and the music of Beast In Black as a whole, but this time Heavens Gate had made this song more to their own, and it fits pretty good in my opinion! 😊
The version from Heavens Gate also appears on the - A Tribute To Judas Priest: Legends Of Metal Vol. II. It's easier to find I think, and it has a killer version of Beyond the Realms of Death by Blind Guardian, among other very good covers. Didn't know Wardrum, so thanks for the introduction!
Now that I know that wardrum and beast in black have the same singer, I'm going to just have to check them out. Thanks for helping me discover yet another band. By the way, I love how you're doing this with a bowtie. My vote goes to Wardrum.
Crazy, right?! I had no idea until I stumbled upon the video and looked up Wardrum...definitely plan to check them out too! Sometimes it's interesting to listen to the earlier work of "rising star" singers to see how they've evolved with a new band. Another good example is Thomas Winkler (from Gloryhammer) and his earlier band Emerald. Similar, but totally different. -Michael
22:08 Totally agree with You, Anamaria! 😁 I just wrote a comment about that after watching the battle between Hammerfall and Sonata Arctica. Comparing two covers is a way more equal battle in my opinion, cause every band is free in their new interpretation and can make it their own! 😉
A plus is that those songs which have several covers tend to be really good compositions, rich with possibilities. By selecting such songs one is bound to listent to good music. The downside is that the number of songs with several covers is not that large... You saw already Hammerfall vs Sonata Arctica and this one. We have one more edition of the battle of the covers, with Witchery and Devin Townsend on Fast as a Shark (Accept). - Anamaria
@@MetalAcademix Oh, wow! 🙂 So I have to check out this video, too! Thanks for the hint! By the way - Rage did a cover of 'Fast As A Shark' as well ( ua-cam.com/video/JxEA8e9Hrdc/v-deo.html ), and JBO made a short funny cover of the original and called it 'Heidi Heido Heida' ( ua-cam.com/video/TTbxM4IJ-hU/v-deo.html ; the spoken german at the end means "we've teached them a lesson" 😂)
@@MetalAcademix As You said, the number isn't that large, but still there are some good possibilities, for example this one: Bullet For My Valentine and Beast In Black, both did a cover of Survivor's "No Easy Way Out" from Rocky IV! I can't decide, which is best, but I'd like to know, what You two think of it .. maybe there will be a reaction to this battle someday? 🙂
OoOoOoOo - Rocky IV soundtrack! 😍 I'll look into it. I have another awesome battle lined up for another big movie release later in the year... -Michael
You should check out other Wardrum songs too. Their own stuff is even better and worth to check out! They have a really cool, melodic, prog/power style, but this cover don't represent their style much.
I bet - do you have some suggestions? I listened to a few of their songs after making this video, but didn't really know where to look. Would appreciate any pointers to your favorite songs or albums and will give them a listen! -Michael
@@MetalAcademix I would love to. How much time do you have? Because i love too many :"D The whole Messenger album is my favourite for example. But i can send you a 11-12 songs or even shorter spotify compilation.
@@MetalAcademix I wanted to send you a Spotify link, but it's disappears every time I send it... Maybe the youtube don't like it, i don't have any idea why... By the way, I named it "Wardrum Compilation Vol. 1". You can search for it on Spotify. My profile name is "Hator"
So obviously I love the Judas Priest song the most, but in this bottle of covers I give it to Heaven’s Gate just because I love Heaven’s Gate! I have not heard of wardroom! I feel like Heaven’s Gate was actually closer to the original Judas Priest Sentinel! I even feel that the singer of Heaven’s Gate sounded a little bit like Robe Holford! So if you likeHeavens gate singer I don’t see why you don’t like Judas Priest! Also you need to listen to Judas Priest with Ripper Owens!
The guitar solo is good in that one - but other than that, it didn't seem all that interesting. Or, do I have it wrong? (Haven't listened much to Machine Head, so not sure how their version is meant to reflect their sound). -Michael
What is this sacrilege... omg how dare you play covers to this godly song by Judas Priest....... there is only one version to react too... the original..... the only version that matters !.

Heaven's gate they also cover A Little Time by Helloween, would love to see a reaction from that cover with a other cover from other band ;)

Thank for pick the Idea pick cover vs cover
Definitely is too hard, I'm will say is a completely a tie
Haha now I remember it was you! Thanks for that, we'll definitely do some more in the future 🤘 -Michael
I like the Heavens Gate arrangement but Yannis does justice to Halford's original with those soaring high notes, so for me it's a tie.
Ohh i forgot. My voice 4 Wardrum.
lmao people are blinded by studio trickery. Rettke has a waaay more dynamic delivery, precision and consistency. Its not even close.
I prefer the Heavens Gate version, although the singer sounds a bit like Blackie Lawless.
The wardrum solos were certainly more intricate.
Not a Priest fan?! Still love you
Ha ha, no one's perfect 🤷♂️ - Anamaria

Pink Floyd vs nightwish song high hopes
whith all respect, but Heavens gate version its better than the original
Wardum
Rettke rules
