3 YEARS to Break a World Record: Was It Worth It?

  • I spent 3 years of my life breaking the Guinness World Record for the Youngest Person to Travel to Every Country. I broke the previous world record, which had only been held by men, by over 3 years! Traveling to 196 countries was an incredible experience and I feel immensely grateful for the opportunity to do so at my age.
There were so many ups and downs along the way and one of the hardest aspects of breaking this record wasn't even related to travel, it was the evidence required to prove that I had traveled to every county!
6 full months of intense organization after years of procrastination, I was able to submit nearly 7,000 pages of documentation in chronological order to Guinness World Records. I thought I had done everything by the book until I received an email that added 100 days onto my record...
In the end, I broke the Guinness World Record at 21 years old and I was invited to celebrate the accomplishment on the today show in New York City. This was by far the biggest challenge I have ever undertaken & it still feels surreal that I finally completed it and can share it with you guys!

Amazing Lexie, love your videos/IG. You motivated me to finish my GWR application. Obviously not as immense as yours but it still took me months to organize and submit all the evidence. Some of my rules were pretty intense too, but there's certainly no way to fake it.

@@minzi8422 I honestly did a terrible job planning my trip in Sri Lanka. I usually try to get away from cities and tourist traps to get a more authentic feel for the country I’m visiting. Choosing the path less traveled can occasionally/inevitably lead to unexpected complications, wasted time and frustration. Sometimes we miss once in a lifetime opportunities. Sometimes our experiences don’t live up to the expectations we created in our minds. And that’s to be expected! Being able to accept that things didn’t go the way you wanted them to and making the best of it anyway is a really important life lesson traveling has taught me.

Keep it up! I’m never disappointed with this channel, I have this thought: on your next video I would ask for the GwR and you made the video without me even asking you!! I think that some rules are pretty fair, but some are just absurd.(2 witnesses!!!), anyway I’ve got some questions. Would it count if you just slightly cross the border(for example DMZ in Korea, when you are in the blue houses you technically crossed over to North Korea at the far end of the blue house)?? Do you have to tell them when you want to start? The rules say you need to be at least 16 to complete this record, Can you count the countries you visited when you were little? Lucas KM

is your time and money spent the reason why you don't know what to answer? Having been to so many places, while not having had the chance to actually take a moment to actually look at things but rather be box-ticking? The ecological footprint? I feel like the GWR incentivises your efforts for the wrong reason, and honestly that achievement would be impressive enough to me without a record behind it. Although it certainly proves your determination!
