  • So a small update with the car, the head gasket had been leaking, but got way worse, so its time to replace it. Its going to be (zero) fun doing this in the heat of the summer. Ive taken a few other things off, set the engine to top dead center, and now removed the camshaft to get access to the head nuts.
I havent filmed much of that process up until now though, but I figured itd be worth posting.
I also did a few helpful tricks too! When I was taking the camshaft off, I used a prybar and put it up against a water hose fitting to help separate the seal. I took an old cardboard box and put it between the camshaft and head to help prevent the lifters from falling out, and keep them in place. They typically like to slide out upon removal of the camshaft and can fall out and become scratched or even dented. The camshaft ive got is an 8 valve one, rather than a 16 valve one. Upon reassembly ill be using some engine assembly grease to keep these lifters in place.
