I had the ProStar as a daily driver for a few weeks. Loved it. And I’m a similar play-style as Matthew-a control player that doesn’t always need the power but wants the access when needed. And when you access the power on serves and drives, the shots are HOT. My last time playing with the ProStar, my opponent told me my shots felt like rockets. Believe me, this thing bangs! If they had a widebody/standard version of the ProStar, it would be my Goldilocks paddle for sure. As of now, my top paddles in my bag are Fat Boy and 3S Anna Bright. Both are weighted to be power wides. This is my current preferred setup.
Amazing review so informative! You really hit the nail on the head with your review from Nexus! Very clean and concise video. Glad you shined your light on the Shroud who a lot of people turn their heads away from. The ProStar price for performance is a steal IMO. Great review!!
I heard about this Nexus Prostar recently. I wished I can try this to compare how it is with my J2K Pro. Nice but I prefer the case in the style of the Shroud.
Got the ProStar when it first released. Gen 3 design with full foam core. Still can't keep up with my GB Pro Pwr E for pop. Would like to see the SHROUD in a standard shape.
Great review. ProStar seems to want to be the first to combine all the latest tech into one paddle. Hoping it lives up to its potential. Sounds great though.
Thanks for the review. What is your opinion of Johnkew's radar chart for the ProStar? According to his data, the spin seems to be on the lower end of most paddles.
I’ve heard mixed things about the spin. I would have to dig deeper into this. But for me-a soft hitter-I didn’t notice any issues with spin. If you’re a big driver that needs a ton of topspin to get your balls inbounds, def check out some more reviews. John is probs in the hard-hitting category/style based off what I’ve seen. Hope that helps! As for the radar diagrams he does, I’m not smart enough to decipher those! 🤪
@MatthewKPickleball haha. Nah you gotta give yourself more credit. I love using the radar chart. Fair point regarding the spin. I do utilize a good amount of spin on the majority of my hits, and my drives are moderate pace. Nothing too crazy but enough to get the opponent to move or have trouble with them 😀. How would you compare the Shogun vs the ProStar? Since they are both use titanium and are Elongated. Aren't their price points about the same as well?
The ProStar has more power for sure IMO. Both have muted pop but with pretty different feels. The Shogun’s touch is like the other plush, “Titanium” paddles that have come out, while the foam-filled core in the ProStar cushions the ball and lets it sink in-that’s how it feels, not necessarily what’s physically happening.
I've been looking for ProStar reviews; thank you! How is the spin characteristics of the ProStar? And how would the ProStar compare to Ronbus R1.14 Ripple and Joola Mod Ta-15?
I just did a Shogun review, so def check that out as I go into detail on how that one plays. But I’d say the ProStar has more power on driving shots, but it has a very different feel overall with that foam-filled core.
OK, I’m agreeing with this idea of the reviewers not agreeing. 😂 My thoughts are maybe they didn’t give it much of a chance because everyone loves the Shogun and the Olympus and J2ti. I feel like this is the paddle if Somebody combine the Shogun, Olympus & j2ti. it has those same foam filled core cells like the Olympus that give a power but is sort of the same surface make up of the J2ti in shape that give it unique feel and touch, but Shogunish in the shape and swingweight. and it’s a 16 mm not a 14 like the Olympus. in my opinion, it’s what we all want which is a consistent Power paddle. PET or titanium weave or whatever you wanna call it gives it great touch. The problem with this paddle and the Olympus, and possibly the Shogun, but I am experiencing it right now with the ripple is…. You have to play it a bunch for it to work in and get its feel over time. I just don’t think some of the reviewers have given it time to work in. I’m super picky and It’s a way special paddle!
The Prostat is intriguing, but I have to say, it is one of the least agreed upon paddle among reviewers. Some say it has great spin, others say it is below average. Some say it's powerful, others say it is nothing special. I've never had a harder time figure out who to listen to on this one.
I think control-oriented players that don’t swing hard all the time probs have a different POV than folks that like to bang and play aggressively 100% of the time. Gen 3 paddles play a lot differently between those two kinds of players than Gen 2, so I think we’ll continue to see opinions be divided. I’m on the soft, control side of things if that helps! Find a reviewer that fits your style and see what they think. That’s my two cents!
@@MatthewKPickleball I agree. Seems like reviewer play styles and preferences are showing through more and more with these newer paddles. It's fun to hear what everyone has to say. I guess nothing beats trying the paddles out yourself, but your reviews are always super helpful! Thanks for the insight!
@@jatseng0000 Thanks for the kind words! For me, I'm familiar enough with most of the reviewers' styles that I have a good idea of what they mean. On my end, I do try to explain how paddles fit certain styles differently. But my advice for folks paddle hunting is to find a reviewer who's reviewed a paddle you know super well; see what they said; and, if you agree with them, you'll know their thoughts on a paddle you haven't played with will probably line up with your own. But I agree, I think the Gen 3 paddles are revealing different folks' preferences way more than Gen 2.
So I own the Prostar and absolutely love it. I actually think he does a pretty good job at describing the play characteristics. My biggest issue with it is the swing weight. HOWEVER - I would say it's a near perfect paddle. It could have more spin, but that doesn't mean the isn't sufficient. It has great baseline power that is very controllable and blocks and counters really spring off of it with the right technique, but drops and resets are also really controllable.
@@mruniverse19 Thanks for sharing your experience! The Prostar has been on my radar for awhile, especially since it can be considered a slightly upgraded Shogun. And I like elongated shapes and paddles with higher swing weight so that’s much of an issue. The hardest part is trying to wait to see some reviews of a few other paddles coming out soon. I can’t wait to find out more about 11Six24s new power paddle, the Chorus Fire, and the Pickleball Apes Pulse!

How does the Prostar compare to the Shogun?
I’d say the ProStar has more power on big swings but with a very different feel overall because of the foam-filled core. Hope that helps!

How do you think it compares to the PPE’s power? I prefer muted pop, so I like that aspect of the ProStar.
@@MatthewKPickleball PPE has more pop or punch with less effort.
@@kimleith1378 Def agree with that! But curious how you compare full swing drives between the two?
@@MatthewKPickleball The feel of ball impact with the NEXUS is a more solid "thump" than the GB. Less swing effort with the GB.

13.5 mm core? That has to be one of the thinnest 2/3 gen paddle.. And it has great control? Sign me up.
