- This is how I taught myself Hiragana and Katakana in 2 hours when I first started learning Japanese by myself 1 month ago.
Hiragana and Katakana are both extremely easy to learn and through the steps I give in this video, hopefully you will also be able to read Hiragana and Katakana in 2 hours.
The 2 free apps that I used make remembering Hiragana and Katakana fun and easy:

**EDIT: I was recently able to go to Japan for the first time and challenged myself to speak Japanese only while I was there, check out how it went! ua-cam.com/video/klpva9zI72I/v-deo.html
So it's been 1 year...
Here's the 1 year progress video!

I used a very, very similar method to learn the kana, but nothing solidified the connection more than writing and reading with them. Definitely a well made video in the sea of Japanese learning resources, and good to see that you stuck with it.
For sure, once you've been exposed to all the Kana that exist, there's nothing that makes it stick more than just simply using it for real.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
You know it's learning time when he posted this at 3 AM.
It was like 6AM for me lmaoo
I am starting the Japanese learning - self learning. Native Vietnamese but studying Japanese in
English. Wish me luck, hopefully I wont give up lol. Your video is super helpful - thanks a ton.
How is it going so far?? I want to start!
@@Julietroses82 I'm in the same position as them. Currently I've mastered ig you could say hiragana but I'm trying to forget about it so I can test myself again--during this I will be learning katakana. Just haven't really been up to learning it haha. You should deff start, like he said in the video and what everyone will say is to start off with kana and then I'd say learn 5-10 kanji a day (That's what I'm gonna do) but yk, go with the flow!!! Learning this language should be fun, once you feel like it's a job just stop for a few days and then continue on because learning a language should be fun not stressful! But I'm kinda scared because everyone says that japanese is one of the hardest languages to learn but I think they are just overreacting
i just started learning the alphabets, yes after 3 years since the video came out, yet this video is very usefull, thank you^^ worth a follow
Congratulations on starting your journey! Very glad to hear that the guide is still working for you! :D
Thank you very helpful
Bro Could Teach me how to Stick Shift Drive a Rocket Ship.
I have been trying to learn the hiragana for weeks!I knew some characters since I was young, but I couldn't memorize the rest, I followed what you said, it made a huge difference! I literally learned them in a few hours! I will start to do the same in katakana, but this time I know nothing about katakana...
I'm following everything you do in this video and other vids, from the apps and paper, thanks for making Japanese learning easy ❤
Thanks for watching and commenting! I hope you'll also find the tips in my videos useful for quickly levelling up your Japanese ability!
A really informational guide on learning Japanese. Gonna start learning tmrw since it is 3AM now
How's it going?
Are you still learning my friend ?
Best tutorial i have seen so far
I see what you did there with the last sentence 😊👏🏽
Thank you so much for the guide, I'm going to try it out this weekend and I'll try to remember to edit the comment on how it goes!!! :D
Updates?

Bro, its effective for me. Im surprised, your supposed to have lots of subscribers.
Very glad to hear that it worked for you! I recommend watching this video to find out what to do next btw: ua-cam.com/video/DcY2Svs3h8M/v-deo.htmlsi=3y0ug5BQ1b6YZGb0

Thank you very much for watching and commenting too! 😁
I have that exact same shirt! Did you get it at Hot Topic? I'm pretty sure that's where I got mine back when I worked there
Oh the Pusheen shirt! Yep, pretty sure I got that at a Hot Topic when I was living in Canada 😂
Hey Jouzuさん、If you can clear my game's Hiragana and Katakana on screen in-game, let me know.
Cheif that phasmophobia promotion is probably going to leave me sleepless for a few nights that scream- it was perfect! perfect to give me a heart attack out of many other things but this vid is really helpful since I krep forgetting a lot of the hiragana and katakana
when i learnt だ(da)or any of the "d" when i knew all the t's i just thought of ta da because it sound similar and it sound like a magic trick being made hope i helped someone
HOLLLY SMOKES Dude that's genius. Really wish I thought of that when I was first learning it. If I ever remake this video I'm including this comment in it.
yeah that is going to help me thankyou !
@@Originals-yours no problem we need more tips and tricks to learn Japanese
@@JouzuJuls I'm happy you think that. And totally do include it seeing forward too the video if you do a remake :3
Love the editing, and if you can make more instructional videos like this, I'm sure slowly but surely I'll actually learn Japanese lol
Edit:
Spoiler:
I knew more hiragana than I thought, lol
but what does touroku mean?
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video, please do share it around to help the channel! Also what DOES it mean 🤔??
@@JouzuJuls Okay with the help of Google Translate, I know what it means lol, and will do! Hope this channel grows and helps the main one grow too!
Edit: Also, have you considered promoting on social media? I recall a subreddit (r/LearnJapanese) that is "THE" place to learn Japanese on Reddit, and if you can post videos there that might help gain traction.
Does my handwriting matter much? I have bo idea what is considered good or bad in japanese
That's how I learned them.
Nice lesson at 3 am
Yayyyy
i pretty much only know 3 characters right now, which are the 3 in my Name, and a few other unique ones. ill be back eventually to update (because its midnight and I want to sleep)
is there an update
i think the last sentence mean thanks for watching
pretty good
Thanks!

Help is there an iPhone app equivalent to the apps he’s using in the video?
I’m surprised no one gave an alternative in 3 years .stuck in the same hole myself
I used ‘MARU: Learn Japanese Hiragana’ to practice hiragana (you can also learn katakana in the same app) it does test both ways (sound to kana and kana to sound) and uses words but i have actually found the words quite helpful! The icon of the app is a little red circle, like the Japanese flag :)
Mnemonics work very well.
I don't really advocate mnemonics unless it's a last ditch effort. What would you do if you forget the mnemonic? Have a mnemonic for your mnemonic?
.
The method that I show in this video simplifies the process so you don't need to create mnemonics.
@@JouzuJulsA mnemonic can be literally anything though. Like you saying that ん looks like n is a mnemonic. If you learn one because it’s the one that you always get wrong and you had to drill it into your head, that experience is a mnemonic. Not all mnemonics work for everybody, but we all use them all the time without realizing it.
@@wrmsnicket Good point!
Great video, but why did you put the "n" twice in the chart?
The first "n" is for the な row as in なにぬねの, the last "n" is just ん ^^
ONLY 1.85K IS CRIMINAL FOR THIS KING
Thank you very much for being one of them!
@@JouzuJuls Chiyanneru touroku one gai shi masu not sure what that means but I can read now!
@@JohnDoe-bp9jmif the “ya” “yu” or “yo” is small and it’s after a character with the “i” vowel, you drop the “i”sound in the character and replace it with the “y” consonant, for example, 東京(とうきょう) it means Tokyo, the biggest city in Japan (and in the world as well apparently), but where did the “kyo” come from? You wouldn’t say Tokiyo would you? They used a “yo” in it (ょ), but it’s small, here's for reference, “きょ” (kyo) ”きよ” (kiyo), but if it’s a “shi”, “ji” or “chi”, you drop both the “i” and the “y”, for example, in the word 茶(ちゃ), meaning tea, it’s spelled with a small “や”, but it doesn’t make the “chya” sound, it makes the “cha” sound, this is what we call “yo'on”
Why am I telling you this? Well channel in Japanese is romanised as “Channeru” not “Chiyanneru” because it includes yo'on, also, “Channeru touroku onegaishimasu” means “Please subscribe to the UA-cam Channel” “touroku” means registration, or subscription, onegaishimasu is a way of saying please, and channeru, of course means Channel
Ive learned hiragana and katakana for 2 weeks😂😊
2 weeks for hiragana and katakana shows your determination to learn the language, but you could be doing everything more efficiently if you learned more about how to learn languages efficiently!
Chiyanneru toruku o ne gaishimasu
Should I learn katakana first or should I learn hiragana first? Or do both?
Hiragana first
He said that in the next to day you should learn Katakana, but it was 2 hours in the title
An hour a day for 2 days is still 2 hours.
.
Furthermore, just because you can remember something after 2 hours, doesn't mean anything if you can't still remember it the next day, or the day after, or the day after that.
.
You can't find out whether you still remember it the next day unless you test yourself the next day.
@@JouzuJuls how do you deal with comments like these? people actually braindead lol

Excellent video! I found a useful mnemonic for remembering the usage of dakuten (◌゙) and handakuten (◌゚). Consider handakuten like a bubble on the verge of popping - mirroring the 'P' sounds. This visualization has assisted me greatly in my learning journey.
what are your thoughts on duolingo's Japanese course?🥹
I've never done it before but would stay away from Duolingo in general if you're serious about language learning.
.
If you don't know what to do next after learning the Kana, I would recommend learning the top 2000 most commonly used words so you can immediately jump into immersing in Japanese content!
.
And easy way to learn the top 2000 most commonly used words is by setting up a free software called Anki by watching this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/DcY2Svs3h8M/v-deo.html
