- Recorded in March 2020. Metallica's Kirk Hammett joins the CMA's Jackie Adams and Marty Fort of the Columbia Arts Academy for a special Q&A session for young music students from the Columbia Arts Academy, Dreher High School, and Girls Rock Columbia. Video produced by James Serpico.
I could listen to Kirk talk all day! He's a busy man, yet takes time to do things like this, says alot about him.
Kirk is such a cool dude man
Metallica has many people who are very nice to talk to.
What the hell is a "dude man"???!!
@@jojo-yx5rx i think he said dude, man
XD
"girls do rock, by the way" I LOVE THIS MAN
probably liv That's not love. Everybody "loves" when the attention is on them. That's called selfish love or cathecting. Love is about caring about someone so much, with no self interest involved. Having said that. Girls rock , Boys rock!. And Kirk Really ROCKS!!!
@@isaiakrozell2409 do you know what a hyperbole is :)
he is way too fine 🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️
The lady in the beginning is trying so hard. My heart goes out to her.
I am watching a video of my favourite guitarist and I see a comment of my favourite guitar teacher. You Rock Mike. Thank you for your great lessons.
She looks familiar like the actress Amber Chase
Hey mike!
I hope shes ok
Hi mike was almost as surprised to see you on here as i was about kirks exhibit.I live in the columbia area and im a 5th member and knew nothing about any of this or that kirk was here in person, need to get out more(after virus) and rando isnt too far away! cheers.
*in the back of my head while they talk*
Why, am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, hell is here
Lyrics written by Kirk 🤘
....I was born for dyinnnnnnnggggggggggg!
*epic guotar solo starts playing*
Disposable Heroes , great tune
Barking of machine gun fire there’s nothing to me now
My favorite solo too. Which there are many great ones. But that one really gets me
Dirty little secret: kiss was considered a joke of a band for kids back in 75-78. I was there I remember.
What a down to earth multi Millionaire
I was PRAYING he would bust out the unforgiven solo lol
He is a sweetheart.
Any interview that Kirk Hammett is you got to love
If only those kids knew the Living Metal God was in front of them...
ofcourse they know, who doesnt know metallica.
@@laoude7890 No, they didn’t
@@zeitesixx i mean, metallica is the most comercially popular metal band. atleast they have listened to enter sandman or nothing else matter, right?
@@laoude7890 No, they haven’t
@@zeitesixx are you sure? the sound the the hand clapping shows that they know who kirk hammet and metallica is.
What an honor.. to have Kirk Hammett speak. I would love that in my life! 🙏🏼❤️
Nice session with an exceptional artist ! Every day his guitar playing allows me to escape to a better world and make me feel a little euphoric , for which I thank him very much ! He is also very honest, modes, positive and creative. These are features that I appreciate very much among world artists, especially as they are less and less common. Kirk, you are definitely one of the best guitarists in several generations. I wish you a lot of smile and further success ! I Love&Respect You ! :)
Well said 👍🏻
There are so many solos/riffs of Kirks I could mention that help me escape but one that always stands out to me is the solo in "The Unforgiven 3",
Goosebumps every single time, followed by a feeling of relief, like it's a stress reliever 👍 and of course the solo from the original "Unforgiven" always gets me, one of the best solos ever. and
still one of the greatest bands👌💯
Wow! Kirk used to study at Film School, just like Jim Morrison.
The fact that someone of his stature takes to do this and donate his time and museum pieces shows the kinda man he is ....so humble
It was nice to hear Kirk take the high road when he talked about Yngwie considering the fact that Yngwie has said some NOT so nice things about Kirk. Kirk is a cool dude, I'm glad I watched this video, thanks for posting.
Yngwie talks shit about everyone. He’s basically a meme in the metal world at the point. Lol. I think everyone just ignores what he says by now.
Hello Columbia Arts Academy,
I have always been a big fan of Kirk Hammett!
I enjoyed this 46 minutes very much.
Thank you very much for uploading the video!
With lovely greetings from germany
As a guitar player, I know maybe two scales, I do a lot with those but I know there are many more scales I can play and learn. It amazes me just how cool the electric 6 string guitar really is. It's not about fame or money, it's about being one with the instrument. You get there, you went somewhere special.
i listen to metallics with my kids to make sure they know how great they are
They better not betray you by saying "my favourite album is Reload"
@@TheLucidDreamer12 whats wrong with reload 🤨
@@TheLucidDreamer12 Reload is better then every hip hop and pop album these days
@@krystian_went8537 I agree… I love hard rock as much as Metal!! 🤘🏽Load amd Reload are great albums!!
Kirk would adore "Signal Music Studio" UA-cam channel. This channel is such an inspiration for songwriting.
These kids doesn't know how lucky they are
I do love that I got to catch the end of cd buying and flipping through the packet reading lyrics and everything.
As a Broke College student in 1991, I used to save my money and spend on food frugally just to buy my next metal cassette tape, like eat ramen endlessly...man those were the great old days, I remember the Black Album when it first came out and I hated it...grew on me eventually and IMO it's their best album ever
Some dude heard I was learning guitar and gave me his entire collection of Power Play magazines, 2008 to 2020 every copy over 160 of them. I have spent the last few days immersed in the albums and artwork in there, I don't get to flip thru the sleeve but I am thankful to have UA-cam to just type in a random band and find some thing they've done. I am now on amazon ordering preowned and old Cds to build a collection before it's too late. I've always loved Metallica since my brother played me And Justice For All, first that eerie Blackened intro then Justice the track, going from that acoustic intro into heavy as hell riffing. That Made me pickup a guitar in the first place. I pretty much got hooked on those early albums and I found Pantera too. I was addicted to EVERYTHING Dimebag darrell has done, him, Kirk and James have been my teachers without knowing it. Now I have all these magazines to continue my education. I might subscribe to the mag and continue the collection then someday give it all to an aspiring young guitarist
kirk is so wholesome and encouraging at the same time. getting cooler as he gets older.
Love u kirk....my inspiration
I totally love Kirk.
Bro peace and love 💘
Kirk is a Legend, the dude who wrote the Metallica song: Creeping Death
Album cover art, lyrics to the songs, credits, posters ,stickers as in Pink Floyds DSOTM album. Ya, all that was nice to have.
1000% better than typing in a ‘link’ every time you want to listen to song, or however you wanna put it.
Playing an album or record is almost like a ritual lol it really puts you in the ‘mood’ of the music
“Way cooler than the trumpet” ?!?! OMG Kirk!!
Lost her at, “it had six strings and made noise…” Amazing preparation for an interview with a professional guitarist.
Wish he had a wah pedal hooked up to his mic so he could wah his voice 😩😂
Damn I miss looking through racks of albums and tapes - getting excited by the covers! First heavy album I bought at a small record shop was Nuclear Assault's Game Over. I even miss that with movies in movie rental places.
Would have been awesome to see him jam thru that dual rec
Kirk taught Gary Holt, nuff said
Gary Holt is beyond better now though.
Wish Kirk would come to Florida state university 😂 just saw ZZ Top last year while at school
Music is the best therapy....
Sonic therapy
Kirk You RULE 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Kirk should get with Rob Zombie and make an original horror movie
Glad to see guitars and a 1/2 stack were there as props. ;(
The music in your head all time around IS "tinitus" 😊😁
This is a great interview, but what is the point in all of that equipment for him not to play? Lol.
yeah, posters, Mirrors, and patches for your Denim jacket !
Marshall MX® straight cabinet 4X12", Peavey 6505® Plus Head = awesome sound
I use the Peavey 6505 too!#🎸🤘🏻🔥#Peavey
@@bondalero0074 yes bro, Peavey amps, one of the best, especially their Transtube series
That’s actually the Marshall “Slant” Cab and a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Head but they do provide an amazing sound. That’s what I recorded with in a studio once
Good Lord...have mercy!...I once was blind...not deaf!!
Metal God for real!
amazing and so capitivating!
I wonder how many people were waiting for him to pick up that guitar and turn on that amp😮😮
t amo kirk 😭😭😭💖💖💖
Even in the Colombia Museum Of Art Craft Fair in 2022, one of the members of Metallica can show up.
very cool.
Kirk is sooo stoned right there. Hes a big weed fan even though most dont mention it. I met him backstage twice in the 90s and him and Newstead reeked of it after the show.
He actually has Arthritis now from repeatedly playing in the same positions so I don’t blame him!
would love to jam with him
You know could the intro be any longer though kind of like get on with it where is Kirk
Who knows who metallica is?
Gotta say.. I’m Pretty sad watching that green light glowing on the amp for 45 min. .. 🤣
there are starving kids in other countries who don’t have glowing green lights and tubes Kirk. . Ya could’ve fed us some riffs
Hmmmm, Mesa Boogie on a Marshall cab? Hmmmmm, interesting.
Didn't Jack White also have that Montgomery Ward guitar?
These chairs look so Uncomfortable 😭😭😭😭
In one hand, this is awsome. In other, private schools are taching metal. That does not make sense.
Why does she talk to the audience like a kindergarten teacher???
KRK! \m/
That Megadeth font on the backdrop tho lol
Not, in any type of way trying to be disrespectful just curious, is Kirk's stutter natural, shyness, or because of his known history of substance abuse? Just curious.
You mean to tell me that the yappy tennis player that can't keep time for shit actually let someone else in the band talk...
Tennis is a very cool sport and can keep you healthy and active very nice sport with balls
Why does he have all that gear and not play?
We need a METALLICA FROM THE START TO NOW NOT THE MONSTER ONE
Who IS metallica 🤔
I am the real FRANKENSTEIN 😠💥
He seems so really unaware of his distinguished presence. ...wow!
What a profound way of comprehending the uncomprehensibility of the unseen
He’s hard to listen to. Kirk always seems like he’s uncomfortable and nervous in interviews
Sometimes he has a lil stutter
Kirk is and ok guitar player couse james and lars are the song composers
Kirks solos are great dont he nows how to make cool solos and thats it
Like the great guitar players make solo albums
Enter Sandman (main riff) and Creeping Death (die, die...) were Kirk's ideas...Lars rejigged the Sandman riff but still Kirk's idea...
@@nathanp8240 and thats it kirk sucks at composin
@@nathanp8240 Damage Inc. the middle riff, before the solo.
@@xrt783 bridge section in Battery too I think...
@@nathanp8240 the middle section in My Apocalypse before the solo.
He's not better at speaking english than playing the guitar obviously 😂
I'll admit hes good playing the rhythms to the Metallica songs but his leads are always the worst part of all Metallica songs,he believes hes in some high level but he is no Alex skolnick frankly he sounds sour
My man was in one of the biggest metal bands of all time, wrote some of the most iconic solos ever... adored by lead and rhythm guitarists all over the world..
But Mr Douglas Comoni6 of YT has a higher pedigree and level of credibility than Kirk... so his leads must be crap.
You're allowed your opinion, but your opinion can also be wrong... which it is.
Kirk is one of the best to have ever done it.
@@jasonhulford16 I can name 20 guitar players just off the top of my head that are light years better than Kirk.
@@jasonhulford16 by the way, his guitar tone is also horrible. Dude is in one of the richest bands on the planet yet his tone sounds like it's coming out of a practice amp.
@@123612100 Have to agree, his lead tone on RTL was pretty decent, but after he went to the Mesas and active pickups his lead tone was god awful, shoulda stuck with the Marshalls imo.
@@primeDecomposition the more I hear mesas the more I don't like em.
Wish somebody had asked them why they went whimpy and if they will ever start playing metal again. Haha. I rem back in thrn day they would go around making fun of bands that sold out and cut their hair etc. Said they would NEVER do that. Well, they cut their hair and started writing horse shit music. Def WASNT metal. Hell barely even Rock...🤣 yeah. I wouldve loved to have heard that question asked. Metallica died after the black album. That was the last album I purchased.
Dude, this isn't the load and reload era. They make metal again the only problem is all the new riffs are boring. I swear they're too rich for their own good and can't write a riff these days to save their life.
Thank God he didn't play..
