The performance you just watched on this video is why jerry West told The Lakers you better take this kid he is going to be a HOF player in the future and my God he was right!
This was an event called Midnight Madness. Kobe and them didnt play until about 1am. People were tired and we all heard of him but no one knew what he looked like..UNTIL then. There's a part when he made everyone run out the gym but its not on here.

@@dinok.3809 Oh, I don't think that he "didn't get invited". He was just a quiet, intensely driven and focused young man who didn't have time for games and distractions. He went to the most elite public high school in the Philly area (Lower Merion serves as the public school for Main Line kids) and was good friends with several of his upper middle class white classmates/teammates despite their different race/class backgrounds. He was a decent student as well and could've easily gone to any major university in the country, where he would've dominated for a year or two before coming out early.
@@onemightyandstrong8293 😂😂😂😂 Kobe was miles ahead of Lebron. Kobe was a better Shooter. 3 pt shooter. Defender. Ball handler. Championship winner. Free throw shooter. Better fundamentals. It's a joke that people think steroid Lebron is the goat. He's barely top 10 all time. I'll give him 9...maybe. Lebron has only scored 60 plus points once. What a joke.
you see, the problem with what you just said is it isn't true. kobe would need a miracle to shoot above 45%. he was an overrated volume shooter (a "chucker").
@federationspace5264 Kobe played in a better defensive age than Lebron. Dont believe me, look it up. He dominated more than Lebron did and lets not forget about his 5 rings on same team. Lebron had to run to go find a Superteam to try and win. You never saw Kobe get outscored in a series by a bench player or MJ. Jason Terry out scored Lebron in the finals that year 😂. Honestly MJ was the goat but Kobe was close. Im not sure Lebron was more impactful then Magic or Bird for that matter. Im not even sure that Lebron us better than Curry in his own era.
I love how it feels like a streetball mixtape of the era. And 1 mixtapes were the best! Skip 2 my lou, professor, air up there etc. Those were the days. I would watch a mixtape, get hyped and go to the park thinking I could do the same thing lol.
@@jamesnguyen7069 no this game was at eastern university about 35 minutes from Philly and about 15 minutes from lower merion high everybody there seen this before and more it wasn’t anything new.
Kobe's mentality was singular. If basketball didn't exist, he would have applied that ferociousness into something else. Another sport, business, investments, politics. Doesn't matter. He would have dominated his field.
Regardless of era, Kobe definitely starting with MJ and Bron in the backcourt of “best” players of all time. He did about 4 things here that are still 10 years ahead of HSers today.
He had did it already lol. That was like his 3rd one! Lol The layup lines before the game was a dunk contest between him and Lester Earl....guess what he did.
If I was there I’d ask his coach fo an ID check because he looked like a grown man playing with kids. Definitely decades ahead of his peers in terms of skills.
I keep seeing comments saying what’s up with people in the crowd like why are they not going crazy because of Kobe well. This game was at Eastern university about 35 minutes from Philly in Wayne Pa. And like 15 minutes from Lower Merion which is in Ardmore Pa. And this was nothing new everybody pretty much seen this and more from Kobe so it was just Kobe doing Kobe.
Man he was clearly leagues above everyone on that court and his game was way ahead of it's time. 2:50 was filthy my god R.I.P the legend man.
Kobe died!?
this was like marty going back to the past and playing his guitar and the crowd didnt know how to react.
Perfect analogy

Wow.. I can feel the 81 points coming from high school..
You can tell how easy the game was for him in high school. Could do anything he wanted
why did his opponent wear football jerseys
Can’t believe I’ve never seen this. Phenomenal performance
The performance you just watched on this video is why jerry West told The Lakers you better take this kid he is going to be a HOF player in the future and my God he was right!
Sick dunk at 4:00. RIP Mamba. Even in high school you already played high basketball IQ. The basketball world is never gonna be the same.
That 1:06 cross was so sick 💀 his play style is so smooth and deadly. Very aesthetic
OMG he did between the legs dunk during the game? Insane....😱😱
The control !!! The finishing !!!
Crowd was so stiff they should have been going nuts, that was an amazing show by Bean!
Probably not their home court
Probably was a regular game to them at that point in time
I dont think that was lower marion home crowd

Elite god given talent and maniacal practice habits.

I almost can't believe the Moves he made here. Looks like a Prime Kobe Bryant. So Athletic and Crafty at this age.

Kobe Bryant the greatest player to ever jump from high school to the NBA. Unbelievable
No. That would be LeBron James who is on another level basketball wise than Kobe Bryant ever was.

The 3:25 misdirection move is a Jedi skill unachieved by none other than the last best at a skill being Kobe bryant
It was a carry but still nice
🏀This one of the most amazing things I have ever seen from a high school basketball player. A lot of those shots were..Unbelievable!!🏀
You can already see the NBA quality of game that he has even before he officially play on the pro league.
Absolutely. Looks so much better here than his early NBA games.

He played regularly with the sixers in practice, I watched them a few times as a teenager.
you would clearly see with his plays he was bound to become a Superstar in NBA ❤❤❤
Smh.how can anybody say someone is better than him or mike
Some idiots pick LeBron lol
Hating on him
because he was inefficient
8 24 the best that ever touched a ball

I love you Kobe ♥️♥️♥️
Ok, we'll let you announce the game. Just make sure you can say Kobe Bryant 500 times in a two and half hour period.
what a treat!! thank you
one of the coldest games of basketball ive ever seen
It’s funny to think I’m about to be 17 and Kobe was producing game like that like it was nothing
Rest in paradise 😢Kob
My goodness.
God bless you for recording this. I was there! And sitting in the same section. #GymRats #NJ #MidnightMadness

Da GOAT WAS A BEAST IN HIGH SCHOOL!
NO WONDER HE SENT STR8 TO THE NBA!!
His talent level at 17 was higher than most top d 1 players in college at the time.
Kobe & Rip Hamilton on the same team ❤
Young Kobe was QUICK
The NBA is full of people with highlight reels at 17 years old like this
My man Kobe Bean putting on a show, what's up with the crowd tho?
they had no clue he would become one of the greatest

He also played soccer when he was living in Italy with his father.
must be considered to be one of the best to ever play basketball and a great person as well
I saw him play live in high school against Rip Hamilton. Rip was nice but Kobe was insane!
Thanks for this treasure!
Man!!! This guys going to be good one day!
My 🐐
He was scoring like crazy with incredible plays and the crowd was barely vocal.
Imagine being the second best player on Kobe’s team…. But still being galaxies apart in skill.
This young man has talent ! I'm pretty sure he can go straight to the NBA after graduating high school !
Everyone on the floor can say that they played with KOBE. One of the best ever.

Best to touch a basketball
Kobe wearing Magic's # 😃
Damn Kobe was nasty in high school!!!
The announcer was more tired than Kobe was, from saying his name so many times
i wonder if anybody at that time knew they were playing against and watching the greatest basketball player of ALL TIME...#2, if not #1
Easy to tell who the best player is on that court after bout a minute...R.I.P luv 🥲
@2:12 A thing of beauty
Hey Folks. I’ve said this once but I guess it bears repeating. Sometimes, the other guy is just better than you!! That was Kobe Bryant. RIP Kobe 🙏🏽🙏🏽
The move at 5:50-6:00🔥💯
This is nutty
Top 5 players ever to play the game
No player trash talking or show boating…. No parents screaming or coming onto the court… how I miss those days….
