The reason Bruce didn't fight in tournaments, is his training was in survival fighting, in the streets of Hong Kong. His fighting style was designed to cripple or kill. He didn't want to do that in a friendly competition, also holding himself back in a fight was against his principles. He had to go with his full arsenal. Too many rules in a competition.

@@akfreed6949 I don't know about the tournaments I'll have to go research that but I do know he was encouraged to go fight on the rooftops with fighters from different styles including western boxing by IP man himself and find what works. That's probably where he got his obsession to make a fighting style of fighting technique from all styles that work in a real fight. Most people don't know Bruce Lee was training in the grappling arts even before Gene Lebelle. He just didnt put it in his movies because he felt people could not see the best grappling moves were hidden from view

Thankfully, Lee was able to sneak in a few movies starting at the very last 1.5 year of his life.
Prior to that...there are zero action movies, he was simply a veteran at live combat.
In live situations he had fought; Black Belts, Pro Fighters, Ex military, Champions, 3rd degree Masters, Rival Martial Artists, and opponents that outweighed him by 100 pounds. His battle experience started as a young boy and lead all through out his teens + adulthoodhood. The few movies he DID get to make were only at the last 1.5 years of his life which has been a very brief opportunity for him to report his life experiences and give that insight into live combat. He only made 3 little movies plus One Hollywood film, a very short attempt at films but we're lucky he at least made them and snuck them right in JUST before he died to show us his insights on his personal life of hard combat.

Also, for anyone who claimed he was perfect, he needed glasses for good majority of his life especially when he was off-screen and he was born with one of his legs slightly longer than the other. He had his own life challenges and learned to overcome them.
One of my favorite small back stories with his training was that he had a sifu who made a deal with him: teach me how to dance and I'll teach you my martial arts. Bruce was not only a fighter and actor, but a dancer too.
So for anyone who laughs at Patrick Swayzee for doing ballet at one time, just remember that the founding father of MMA did the ChaCha at one point in his life✌️

What people ALWAYS miss is Lee's non-stop exercising. Even when traveling in planes or giving an interview, he was working his toes or fingers. Flexxing muscle groups. He was an EXCERCISE FANATIC!!! It is all true about Bruce Lee, and ones in China were upset with him because he was training Non-Asians Martial Arts. He would train anyone who wanted to learn Martial Arts. Someone mentioned Chuck Norris. Norris fought Lee during a scene. Normally, the Arts are handed down to generation to generation. Jackie Chan started out as one of Bruce's stuntmen. When studio informed Lee to lay off his stuntmen, he kept Chan on staff. Remember that Arts were created thousands of years ago in China & Japan. Bruce even trained his kids: Brandon and Shannon Lee. Brandon like his father died young in 1993 at 28. Bruce has a younger brother named Robert Lee Jun-fai, musician.

What made Bruce Lee unique was...... when training in any marital arts there are moves that coordinate with other moves... sort of like dance steps to a waltz... Bruce broke out of that norm and could mix these moves up. Now, the thing is those moves are meant to flow nice and easy. Mixing them you had to be absolutely at the top of your physical game. Lots of strength and coordination to mix moves from different forms of martial arts into one seamless movement... Jackie Chan also did this once... where he fights like he is drunk. At the time it was un heard of...and would take opponents off guard...

You don’t make sense. He trained to be a real fighter, trained to fight anyone in the streets because that is reality when you’re out in the streets. I’m talking from experience, you’ll run into trouble makers with various fighting skill level . You have to be prepared against these scenarios. Bullies can appear from anywhere without warning. I lived in urban cities, I know this . Bruce to survive, you absolutely have to be a fighter because you have to know what you’re doing to get out of that situation.

O.K. my wife grew up idolizing Bruce Lee went into martial arts, her Sensei even ( When in Seattle for a tournament ) visited his grave. Keep in mind my wife was born in 1971, what young kids nowadays do not realize and to their detriment most of the martial arts have a philosophy and it is a way of life. He had a tumultuous childhood born to actors who actually toured in America ( his father deliberately named him Bruce...an American sounding name ) got into a lot of fights when he was growing up in China and his father was beside himself so sent him for training to improve his discipline. Yes...he's the real deal got into majour trouble with Chinese community in stateside for teaching martial arts while going to college. My wife can actually do the one inch punch when she was younger. She has boxing fractures in her hands from practicing the move, getting that kind of coordination takes hours of training as well as knowledge of your own body and using your weight as an advantage. She met his now world famous student Chuck Norris at that event in Seattle, he had a school and brought his students to compete. My wife was awestruck apparently and didn't know Chuck had started his own school ( by this point he'd done a few movies) Bruce Lee was a very humble man so is Chuck. Bruce didn't train you to just fight, it was all about self improvment and achieving balance in life....not actually beating the crap out of someone to prove your better.

There are a lot of documentaries about his death and the rumors surrounding it. His son was a child when Bruce died and eventually became an actor, and sadly died young like his father . Yes, everything you see Bruce doing here was legit.
There was a very good reason why he exercised this much.
Are you ready to have your mind torn open?
Everything you just watched. Bruce Lee do, was after he was a a paraplegic in a wheelchair
He had a terrible back injury, and doctor said that he would never walk again.
One day when he moved his toe, he realized that if I can do that, then I can focus really hard and walk again, and then if I can walk again then I can exercise.
He started taking things to the extreme doing up to 2000 punches and kicks per hand and foot per day on his punching bag.
He wanted to see the limits of the human body.

Lee is ranked by Sports Illustrated in the 50 Greatest Athletes of All Time, with near super human strength that could raise unbelievable
