Once again, I have to clarify that censorship can come from any side of the political spectrum. While it's not just woke ideology at play, it's definitely the current trend. My critiques are not of leftist politics so much as how those politics influence fictional media unfairly.
Except look at the statistics, more often than not, its right wing influence (you know, the status quo of most countries, including the so-called woke USA?) that, at best, forces companies to tread EXTREMELY carefully when showing any sort of representation in media. In the USA, we're arguably one of the stronger examples, because despite having made progress over time, we still get crap like the Steven Universe Wedding incident, where because Mx. Sugar wanted to show the wedding, the show had it's lifespan cut significantly short, and had to rush the last season or two. Then you get the issue of "easily scrubbed representation", where a company (lets take Activision-Blizzard with Overwatch for example) only shows the most token, shallow representation possible, that way they can easily scrub it clean when shipping to foreign markets in less accepting countries like China. So to be frank, there is no mass anime censorship. Yes, some examples are out there, and youve shown a few reasonable examples, but you're fearmongering/being a doomer at best, and really need to calm down. I get your concerns, but you dont need to be so concerned. The right wing pipeline has been poisoning you. You are better than this, dude, please come back down to reality while you still can.
This's, in truth, the continuation of a trend that began all the way back in the late 19th century, when western governments put the Japanese Meiji government in a situation in which they were *forced* to force western "moral" standards onto their people; using the threat of their at the time superior *military force* to force them to do so; the Colonials horseman is *proof* of that! We *definitely* need to let the Japanese creators know that the censorship the localizers are demanding is only *their* perverted desires, and that the westerners who actually buy the games *don't* want any censorship! That's why I'm *glad* to learn about MangaGamer in this video; thanks man! I can't *stand* this bullshit western idea that the human body and sex are inherently *evil* , especially considering that it's an idea the woke inherited from *Christian* doctrine, which's contradicted by the Bible *itself* on those things! Nature's *not* evil, and those two things are just part of *nature* , and embracing them *doesn't* cause society to collapse; on the *contrary* , embracing them actually *improves* a society's morality, as in a society in which public nudity is perfectly normal, like Japan was *before* the Meiji reformation, people understand that it's *not* inherently sexual, and thus aren't turned on by it. And when talking about sex, there're fully functional societies even *today* , in which attitudes towards sex are so positive, that it's even perfectly acceptable to not just *talk* about it in public, but to actually *have* sex in *public* ; I wouldn't be surprised if Japan was the same way before the Meiji reformation, considering many of their stories, and all the pre Meiji reformation Shunga. In those societies, children are actually properly *educated* on sex while they're growing up, learning about it the same as they would anything else, so that when they're old enough to have sex, they know how to handle it *responsibly* ! And usually, throughout history, pre western contact societies were ones in which both these things, while not connected, were true at the same time; and the natural result of this was that sexual immorality was actually much *lower* than it is here in the west with its tyrannical mentality of nudity and sexuality being inherently connected (they're *not* ), and both being inherently *bad* in some way. So as long as the tyrannical religious mentality of both wokeism *and* Christianity remains in this country, there's gonna be those who're gonna try to *force* their "morals", by which I mean their *tyranny* onto the Japanese, which's why we need to abolish *both* ! My screenplays I was planning on sending in to Studio TRIGGER to consider would be the beginning of a series that'd make that perfectly *clear* .
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 There is no such thing as the right wing pipeline. Censorship is unacceptable no matter which side does it. And when the right wing is gonna do it, I as a right winger am going to point that shit out. And on the topic of that so called "representation" yeah, screw that. That should not be of any kind of importance in media creation.
Honstly, while I love calling out both coin faces & hate when people pretend any kind of drama is completely one-sided; outside of the good ol' "devil worship" stuff your 70 yo Aunt Mary used to spew, im not exactly seeing a lot of butchered Anime localization teetering towards the right side of politics. Anyone else?
Your argument about companies being stupid is probably the most accurate statement one could make! As someone who also read a lot of financial news, it’s really unbelievable how stupid, unlogical or down right evil companies are just for the sort term profit…
The idea that making these changes makes money is a myth. For every butchered localization, you'll never know for sure just how better or worse it would have sold had it been released more authentically. Companies just saw Pokemon, realized it was a success, and are emulating that process to varying degrees.
The current climate of media entertainment in general has had me down and angry as of late but this is inspiring. I've been wanting to figure out how to channel that anger properly and I think this helps shed some light on how i can be productive with it. Now I'm gonna create an alt Twitter account focused solely on upholding what I love about what I enjoy. (ankme, games, etc.) It's going to be the most legit account I have so they know exactly who's complaining. My other step is what ive been doing, learning Japanese so I can become a translator and show up the trash wokalizers. I'm also gonna continue to vote with my wallet by refusing altered products and let them know why as best as possible. Hopefully we can rally our likeminded partners and make a significant change. I can't wait to share this video around once it drops for everyone.
What I do find pretty damn funny about censorship is that waifus and various anime and games are seen as something in need of censorship for the precious innocent western audience. Yet the west is fine with things like God of War or Doom and such games where you can see gratuitous gore and violence which are far worse than what gets censored in Japanese projects.
To be fair, this is an issue thats plagued western media for years. For whatever reason we can show Mortal Kombat-level violence and brutality left and right, but if a woman's chest pops out then it's game over. Thats not really some "woke agenda", thats just our odd double standards at play.
not even Doom or games really, look at any American commercial or music video, it's all naked skin and boobs, sex sells there, but they see their only chance to change anything in games because they are the most vulnerable form of entertainment it seems.
I've found it annoying how out of whack the priorities are with Western standards, with them being okay with gross stuff like gore while having a panic attack over female skin and body parts.
TBH there are many means to improve the situation. None of which includes conceding at any point with localizers. The end goal should be getting every censor removed. No mercy.
It's good to see that you're still advocating for freedom of expression in fiction and yeah, the biggest issue is that many,if not all companies, are so stupid that when they see people boycotting their releases, they just think people don't care about the product when in truth, they actually like it,they are just voicing their complaints against their version and how unaccurate it is compared with the original release.
Tell it like it is Dai-Kun. People need to hear this for the sake of beautiful artwork, and fantastic anime that inspires more beautiful artwork from talented artists

I hate how Modern Crazies have ruined Comedy and Sarcasm to the point that we have to put in pointless "Disclaimers". Most people are understanding, but we live in Clown World these days sadly.
On a related note, apparently when My dress up darling was being broadcast at South Korea the scene in ep 2 where Marin is showing off her swimsuit, they only censored the bottom but for some reason not the top so it just seems like she isn’t covering her lower regions. It honestly is kinda hilarious how they did it.
The word localization is synonymous with censorship. All I ever see is it being used to excuse censorship by a localization team. I just want faithful translation to come back.
Great video! More people should see this, so I’ll do my best to share it around. It’s sad that we need to fight so hard nowadays, just to enjoy our hobbies without censorship. But if we work just as hard as those trying to destroy it, I think we can triumph in the end.
Thank you a lot for this video. Your videos on localization and cencorship are very insightful on these issues. I always despised cencorship. It robs us from the full experience. Even if a point in an anime or game is something I personally dislike, I don't want it to be cencored. I can still dislike it but brush it off and focus on what I like instead. Cencorship with the intent to "improve" on the source also happens to be counterproductive very often with erasing feminitity for example as you pointed out in your past videos. It comes over as if presenting feminine women as bad which of course is not true. Or the bl manga where they changed the boy into a girl as if boys in feminine clothes are a bad thing, which they aren't. Or the rediculous attempt on erasing any form of fanservice. Is a woman presenting herself as sexy out of her own free will soooo problematic and misogynistic? I am a woman and I do love my fanservice. I also cringe at some memes being put into dubs but I think references are fine. If done clever, I think they can be really funny. For example German anime dubs often put references to other media including other anime and games into their dubs without being very distracting, out of character for the character saying it or removing important information.
Anyone trying to defend these types of changes by making the argument that localization is just copy editing is deliberately misrepresenting the nature of these changes. This is not COPY editing, this is CONTENT editing. Localization SHOULD be just copy editing, not content editing, but that's not what these people are doing.
Take Screen Shot of the Localizer's tweet where they claim to have changed something because they think the Japanese original was problematic. Don't just send it to their company, go all the way to the Japanese Studio so they know what has been done. Localization companies like Crunchyroll won't do anything to stop this mess, so bring it to the Japanese creators themselves via translating the message into Japanese so they can understand what is going on.
In regards to the four horseman: Wokealizers: I like the name, and I pretty much agree with everything OtakuDaikun said here, specifically about taking screen shots of their inaccurrate translations and sending it to their bosses, like how OtakuDaikun tweeted to Sentai Film Works on Katrina's wrongful behavior. The only thing I would add to this is let those supervisors know that if the change isn't met we as consumers will no longer support the product, since money talks. Corpos: I think out of the four horseman this is the easiest to target if fans who are against censorship want to change anything, since as I said before, money talks and the higher ups care more about their profits than anything else, and if corporations aren't making a profit, or even as much money one year as they did the previous year, then they will take the necessary steps to change. And we've already seen this type of strategy work on Disney, since they recently lossed 2 million subscribers in 2022 do to all the woke leftist ideology being present in their shows, and many parents decided to not support them for that. And we recently had the CEO of Disney state they were going to scale back the wokeism do to decrease sales and backlash. And I'm aware that Disney saying scaling it back isn't the same as going away completely, but there's no denying that that's still an improvement, and it shows that "voting with your wallet" does indeed work. Heck, not having wokeism in your product be the driving force does little to effect a company's sales in a negative way, if Hogwarts Legacy is anything to go by, since the trans community were pissed off about the game, and sales for the title STILL did well despite the controversy surrounding it before release. Colonials: These are by FAR the most dangerous, since they target the things we love at the source, and we've already seen the negative effects of this, as Otaku Daikun pointed out with Street Fighter 5 ( toning down R Mika's butt slap in her super, and in Street fighter 6, having Juri, a woman known for having high sexualized outfits in previous games, being HEAVILY toned down in 6), and Jill valentine wearing short pants in the newest Resident Evil Games. Than there's Square Enix, a company who also toned down the sex appeal of TIfa. It all sucks, since with the wokelizers, you could at least import the uncensored version from Japan to get around it, but with Colonials, you have NO such option. Politicians and government agencies trying to ban anime/gaming: while this could be argued to be the worse of the four horsemen, I don't think its as bad as Colonials, since at least in many western countries like the United States, we can vote to not elect them in office, which gives the people to power to determine if WE want to support censorship or not. Finally, to people giving Otaku Daikun crap for calling out the woke left, I ask that you need to look around more , since feminism, Transgenderism, and breaking out against traditional gender norms are all stuff the left SUPPORTS, and examples of censorship on these issues include the ones that Otaku Daikun have pointed out in this video and MANY others he made, so yes, people have the right to point out left for doing these things. I've said it several times on social media, and I'll say it again, that anyone who has issue with all the censorship and left wing ideology being added by localizers in games like the Fire Emblem Series, but for some reason STILL bought or plan on buying Fire Emblem Engage are CONTRIBUTING to the problem, Since the Fire Emblem games have had these localization issues caused by Nintendo for YEARS now, so if you bought this game knowing this your part of the problem, Since at the end of the day, any criticism to Nintendo is irrelevant since they ALREADY have your money, so of course their going to continue what their doing despite what you say, since they don't have a incentive to not add woke leftist ideology in it, since the games they work on STILL continues to sell despite complaints by countless individuals on social media. As the saying goes "vote with your wallet". I would even go as far as to bet my entire pay check that if people actually did what I'm suggesting, and the the sales for these games started to decline and no longer be profitable as a result, the censorship and wokeness elements would be DRASTICALLY reduced, if they are there at all. To reiterate, unless you are a content creator who's trying to spread the word like OtakuDaiKun or CensoredGaming, there is absolutely NO REASON you should be supporting these types of games if you don't believe in censorship.
The right(Conservatives) supports censorship as well when thinking of the children. Even when Not in power, an aim of there's is to ban adult content. I agree with what you have typed still reading it.
@@thecompareablezombie "The right(Conservatives) supports censorship as well when thinking of the children" I'm not sure what your reffering to censorship in regards to kids, unless you mean the banning of kids from heavily sexualized drag shows, and not having surgeries to mutilate themselves, in which case, yes, I agree with the conservatives on this issue, since children CAN'T consent, and we already have other laws in place to protect children from causing self harm including: no smoking under the age of 18, no drinking under the age of 18 ( though I believe its 21 in many states), and no gambling at casinos till a certain age. So with all that in mind, WHY THE HELL should kids having transgender surgeries, and going to HEAVILY sexualized drag shows be any different. As a Libertarian, my thought process is that people are allowed to do what they want as long as they don't harm anyone else, AND are of CONSENTING AGE. The latter is important, since children and minors are not able to consent, as their mind is NOT anywhere close to being fully developed. This SHOUDN'T be controversial, since again, we ALREADY have laws that protect children in other areas.

I dont really agree with your stance that people cannot complain if they buy it, because that just causes division when we should all stand together. Life is short and if someone wishes to enjoy something, even when knowing its been tainted, they should be able to do so. What they should do is at lest complain about it and inform others about it so the news can spread. Other then that one thing I totally agree with what you have to say.

Why it is true that people on the far right primarily labeled traditional conservatives would no doubt love to censor anime based on religous beliefs given the chance, since they find most anime to be satanic in nature ( These traditional conservatives would be people like Matt Walsh, and Michael Knowles) I'm not as concerned about them since these far right individuals seem to be in the minority, since most often than not conservatives that speak out on policies in recent years seem to be more moderate, meaning they edge more closer to libertarian , since these people don't believe in censorship do to believing that the first ammendment means being free to not only say whatever you want, but being free to express any art form a person may create ( this includes anime), even if many of these moderate conservatives don't personally care for anime do to its satanic nature, as conservatives believe in religion ( primarily Christianity). An example of a moderate Conservative is Tim Pool, and you know what? That's okay, since these conservatives don't have to like anime, as long as they don't ban it or censor it to change how they see fit, which is why more often than not, I'm less likely to criticize them since MANY conservatives that would want to censor anime, which would be the traditional conservatives, seem to be in the minority. As a Libertarian, I believe that people can do whatever they want no matter how morally questionable it may be as long as they are of CONSENTING age, and doesn't cause harm to anyone else that doesn't consent to it. Obviously this would make me a free speech absolutist, which makes sense that I'm a fan of the channel, as long as you don't try to censor or cancel me for my political views, I can tolerate you, even if I STRONGLY disagree with you (like traditional conservatives, and the left). "I dont really agree with your stance that people cannot complain if they buy it, because that just causes division when we should all stand together. No, if you KNOWINGLY bought these censored games, your JUST AS PART OF THE PROBLEM as the wokealizers, and hack translators. It's exactly because of your mentality that it KEEPS happening in anime and gaming. You and I aren't on the same side at all.
That Sailor Moon "cousins" censor will still be always so bizarre to me, but a prime example of how blind-sighted censorship can be regardless of where it's coming from. If I remember correctly the times where the dub would constantly remind you they're ""cousins"" the scenes themselves would still be somewhat romantic their execution making out like the dubbing studio thought possiple incest was more appropriate than an outright gay couple(hilarious but still stupid as hell).
I'm happy we don't have censorship in anime and manga in France, but it's suck that many japanese game translations depend on the english translation...
Censorship hasn’t even stopped with anime, in the West, even classic book series like James Bond have been announced to have “remade stories for a modern age”, while removing the old stories’ plot points.
It’s strange that they act like it’s asking too much to just get faithful dialogue translations. While they also conveniently block anyone who speaks there mind and critiques there abilities of there work therefore making them come across as insecure and/or having toxic egos it’s kind of sad and hard to respect those people who do that. Like folks are not asking for dialogue switcharoos or controversial political stuff. Folks just want what's being said by the characters its not really asking much.
If they honestly believe what they where doing was actually correct they would be willing to have an open Dialog. What I believe is happening is they are afraid of Potential Clients seeing that Fans do not like what they are doing, thus removing any trace of complaints from their Feed. Translators are Freelance Workers and rely on being viewed as Positive to Contractors. Its why its important to get word out to the Companies both in the West and East that we dont like their Work.
If they're so concerned about making their own version, they should make their own abridged series, not use it to fuck with the official release's script. I think abridged series have caused so much influence over the past decade that we're getting shit like this now.
While I think golden age of abridged series definitely influenced them, it's ultimately from their ego seeking to stand out and be noticed on socials by whackiest dialogue they can get away adding. The principle behind localisation is being misused so much that people who care about faithful translation would rather interpret context and meaning cues from a literal translation by themselves because localisation trust is eroded by few selfish or virtue-conforming individuals.
These people dont want to Stand on the Shoulders of Giants. They want to bury said Giant and make everyone think they are just standing on this "Hill" that they built themselves, because they dont have the talent to do so on their own.
Don't Bring Abridged series into this They got nothing to do with it. Abridged series arguably gets more PG-13 to even R rated references Corpo trash Is way worse
Avoid supporting companies who deliberately antagonize Anime fans with badly handled localization. Supporting companies directly from Japan with Merchandise. Import from Japan BEFORE Classification Board bans it. Make Your Own and make it Digital Only with abilities to own it via saving to Hard Drive.

I'll say that there's been plenty of translations that have frustrated me, but none have made me mad. That was until Crunchyroll's translation/dubbing of Chainsaw Man episode 11. In this episode Aki meets the Future Devil and is asked to place his head in its chest so he can see his future. Upon doing so though he gives him the offer of allowing him to live within his right eye so he can utilize his power. But why did he do this? Well, if you watched the sub or dub of the episode, it's because "his death will fucking rule", which is not only incorrect, but it also ruins one of the most emotional scenes of the manga. It's supposed to be "You'll suffer the worst death possible.", which makes that certain scene far more impactful. And if that wasn't bad enough, when watching reactions to this episode, that's what everyone saw. I had to explain why it was wrong for nearly every reaction I watched.
I did see that on crunchyroll. Considering the F bomb doesn't exist in Japanese, I figured it was a severe interpretation. In such a short interaction, viewers have no reason to assume that Aki's death "ruling" was an inclination of how much he'd suffer. If anything, it could be taken as good news, like "when you die, it'll be doing something awesome." So yeah, I agree with you there. Being told I'd suffer would be way more ominous.
So I've been thinking on the subject of censorship a lot because of OtakuDaiKun, and one thing always ends up coming to my mind and that is that when you think about it, censorship is just an inherently raciest practice. It is literally a translator going "Oh you silly Japanese, you didn't do that right, here let me an American fix you inferior writing." Censorship always, ALWAYS, comes from the person doing the censorship thinking that they are morally better than the actual writer, and of course since people want to censor basically all of Japan, that must therefore mean that they think they are better than Japan, I.E. they're, intentionally or not, being raciest.
Yup, when ever I hear someone defend any of this Censorship they always say its because Japan is "Creepy" or "Phobic". They demand that all other Cultures change to "Modern" Western Standards because they view themselves as being "Morally Superior". They refuse to accept that Japan is a Free Country and are allowed to live as they please, even if they dont like it. They also seem to refuse to understand that this is how most Wars start. Its almost always due to a refusal to accept another Culture and thinking yours is the "Superior" one and the other side needs to be forced to change, for their own good of course.
While I’m not active on social media, I am in full agreement here. A Translator’s job is to translate the material, not “elevate” it. Can you imagine if that is what translators for foreign dignitaries did? Either way keep up the good work.
I heavily agree that Japanese artist and content creators shouldn't try to appeal to western standards and we need to have localizers provide accurate translations. There is no room in any anime or manga for their agenda. If they want to that they can just make their own series instead of adding memes into the translation which will date the anime, manga or video game.
Here's how I describe the 4 horsemen Boss 1: Safe Boss 2: Euclid Boss 3: Keter Boss 4: Apollyon In case if you don't know what it means, these are the SCP object classifications that I used as boss difficulty, been taking classes from SCP for few years.
During the Katrina drama in 2022 it inspired me to sit down and actually learn Japanese. I bought Japanese textbooks as well as light novels and manga in Japanese. Even after Seven After gave a proper translation I committed to not giving a single cent to any of the communist colonist they call themselves localizers. I now wish to learn the language so that I can consume anime the way it was intended and to potentially fight back against the fucking colonizers.
Good job sensei I really love the South Park reference you did oh and by the way carbon footprints most of these corporals produce more carbon footprint then regular people.
Well, companies are obviously going to produce more because they do it in bulk. It's good for companies to invest in ways to avoid pollution and the like. Ideally that should have absolutely nothing to do with censoring media. It's ridiculous that ESG and anime are conflated at all.
Not to mention the massive amounts the "Elite" put out far outweighs all of us put together, while chastising the rest of us. They want to eat Steak while we eat Bugs.
I don't know if anime dub counts, but I remember in Seven Deadly Sins S2 during Escanor's debut when he says that he'll spare the demon girl that resurrects people (I forgot her name) this happens. In the original version, he says that he'll let her go because he's a feminist, but in the dubbed version he'll do it "while he's merciful". It's stupid! How is a man showing kindness to a woman, even if it's just out of consideration of her gender, a bad thing?!
Something to note when tagging or bringing something to the attention of "the company", bring it to the attention of the JP company, not the wokalizer's company.
@OtakuDaiKun I might be a bit pessimistic, but I feel that informing the western company only works if the JP company is breathing down their necks already. I believe 7 seas only made their changes because the original writers/IP holder were brought into the discussion.
@@OtakuDaiKun Not to undermine your thought my good man. But, would the American company even care if their employees are badly translating games and Anime ? Honestly I don't even use social media like Twitter and I barely interact at all online. However a recent example for me in censorship is I'm Chillin in my 30's after being fired from the Demon Lord's Army. Apparantly BiliBili is involved so they censor panty and boob shots by putting the characters in a way that block those shots. Meanwhile a great example of lewd content last year that's actually part of the story is Harem In The Labyrinth in another world. Where slavery nor his sexual tendencies was something he accepted because he knew he was in another world, the way the MC was written made so much sense to me and they did not shy away from lewdness, so I recommend it.
Harem in The Labyrinth was an Amazing Story. The way he treated his new life was so realistic with how he planned out the attack on the Bandits and his exploration in the Labyrinth. I like how when the Bandits woke up during his Raid he retreated because it wasnt worth risking his life anymore then he had to. I really hope we get more of that Anime.
I hate that many localizers many times actively dislike the material they're working on. For the managers in the back, please don't have people working a project when they hate the source material.
@Paul Or at the very least, do what Marvel and Paramount did when bringing in people who aren't as familiar with works like Star Trek or the characters in the actual Marvel Comics. Give the person who doesn't know time to research and understand what it is that makes the world they live in so unique and why these characters are as loved by the fans as they are. (In this case, I'm referring to the development of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and the making of musical themes for the 1966 Marvel Super Heroes TV show).
I feel like a significant move could be messaging creators and studios directly about how their product is being modified and how we'reunsatisfied with it. I know a certain wokealizer got chewed out for "fixing" the bow legs of a character in a jp game. The creator saw her toxic comments on the game and was promptly corrected. I wish I could remember the specific game but I can't atm.
Woke Localizers deserve to be called out. While I do use some of those modern slang, I want them out of subs completely for I too want proper translations. Platforms really need to get an earful of loud speaker on max as a final result, But I would use that mic on ESG as a whole first thing (I hate that shitty system fully.) And uncensored patch’s are a good direction, gives the censors the middle finger, and ESG to go eat Sh- Colonialist pigs are to be called out for their bullshit. I tend to use machine translations for I cannot for the life of me be able to learn Japanese properly. And it’s becoming more helpful if you wanted to interact with creators. And from time to time, fan artists and manga creators can use translation programs as well. 😅 (Fun tip: *Try making your sentences more simple and to the point. Also avoid using slang or English exclusive words, for that can mix the differing kanji into incoherent mess.*) And finally and most importantly, F**k the CCP. But most likely it’s gonna do it by itself with the current situation they’re having so far on the inside.
Personally, I would love it if UA-cam, Steam, and the like just had dedicated tags or pages for mature content. The biggest issue is that companies want to be Disney, but they forget that Disney owns brands and IPs that are allowed to be mature.

Neutral Parties that can see things without Bias is very important in subjects like this. I appreciate you taking an entrust in this topic. Please feel free at any point in the future to provide your incite in how you view all this as I would be very interested in your opinion on both sides.
@@nobalkain624 Thank for your appreciation someone needs to be the neutral one in topics like these so if no one else will do it I will. I will also make sure to do just that when the time is right and once, I understand both sides enough that is. Since if I only hear information about one side from the other side there's quite the high chance that information may be either somewhat correct or fully incorrect so if I hear both sides out then it will make things better in the long run being able to correct any inaccurate information about one side to the other maybe to help both sides reach a better understanding of each other. (Now I've made this comment unnecessarily long my apologies) what I'm trying to say is that instead of just instantly hating the other side we should hear both (or in this case the opposite) sides out and understand them as something more than enemies but this just how I like to do things. I remember this quote "There's two sides to every story" I think it was in a song in a video game as well.
@@MatthewTheEmperor Very true that most of the time the Truth Lies Somewhere in the Middle. Everyone has their own reason for believing what they are doing is right.
@@nobalkain624 Yes areas like Japan didn't think they were evil for wanting to expand their borders during World War 2 (at least I remember being told that as why they did what they did in school correct if I'm wrong) and America didn't think it was evil for retaliating after multiple attacks even after trying to stay neutral. And people like Adolf Hitler didn't think he was in the wrong for the many things he did in his life (maybe that last one is a bit much, but you get my point). We all do what we think is right if you think helping the weak is right then you'll try to do just that if you think taking over the entire world to force everyone to get along is right then you'll try to do just that. But that's what I think anyway how's your day been?
@@MatthewTheEmperor Agreed, even Adolf thought he was doing something good. Its also important to understand why someone we disagree with felt the way the did. How else are we expected not to repeat something so horrible. Just waking up now, so not to sure yet. Yesterday was pretty good. How about yourself?
I don't know if this counts as censorship, but in Isekai nonbiri nouka's anime, they have changed a lot of story content from the original and even removed a load of even characters that should have appeared by now. And honestly, I cannot find either rhyme or reason for it since it wasn't even anything that incriminating or otherwise problematic in my opinion. Should this fall here as well?
I think at this point in the fight it might be beneficial creators to simply cut the localization out of the process. Yes it may mean it takes longer to get our anime. I for one would much rather wait a little longer if it means we get a product on par with the creators vision. I don't know maybe as a community we need to stop buying anything localized until they get the hint. So I guess in the famous words of Saruman "TO WAR"
Honestly, Japanese companies just need to be more cognizant of what's happening to their IPs. Rather than having western ambassadors sent to Japan to advise them, we need Japanese ambassadors sent to the west to police the process. That means it's important to let Japanese creators know we want their authentic products as well.
The biggest issue is that when it comes to products such as anime, manga, video games and any kind of product that is consumed and marketed, it all comes down to two major things: money and the ones who control money, such as companies, politicians, social influencers, etc. Now, while people have considered me things such as a woke leftist for saying things like this (and if the shoe fits, might as well.) think of it as something to think about. But as companies and the people and shareholders who hold have products for people to consume, view and indulge, as long as they own those rights, they also have the ability to distribute those products the way they see fit, from entertainment, to food, to even drinks and beverages. That also includes how they are presented, even if said product is censored and edited to either fit things such as broadcast formats and access to peoples consumption. Like for example how the Tenjho Tenge manga was heavily edited when it was on CVX Label and was eventually brought out uncensored when it came out on the VIZ Signature collection. However, there's still lots of groups with big money such as the activists, peusdo-religious and pseudo-militia groups and political lobbyists that will either endorse or fight against censorship. The major issue is, is that like the companies they either fight for or against, they still have money to pay and control people to spread their beliefs and influence. It doesn't if they're in any political spectrum, righteous, "woke" (and i'm putting it quotations because they're not as "woke" as they claim to be) or where their intentions lie. Once a humongous amount of money is involved, their morality might or might not be affected by it. Now, there's nothing wrong with having money at all, it's just there's still a lot of people who get inflated egos and skewed viewpoints once they have more money than anyone can ever earn in their lifetime. But money is still a key factor in a persons life, especially once the policies and politics of a company and goverment constantly change. Interestingly, it seems to changing much faster these days.
Fair. To that, all I can really say is the notion of censored anime stuff selling better is a myth. Companies think it's the right idea, but since they haven't tried to be faithful, they can't know what actually sells more.
I remember Glitter force. As a magical girl show fan even in my twenties that whitewashed evil censorship ruined Smile Peredicure. A series specifically designed and aired in 2011 during the earthquake crisis to sheer up children. You could feel it from the lesson in each episode Like how to deal with loss and how to push through hardships. But then Glitter force removed all that good stuff and shit on it
@@OtakuDaiKun Yeah when you hear a English lines spoken by most Japanese VA its pretty bad. It takes a lot of work to sound natural in another language.
1. Someone needs to make a petition about protecting anime from being censored when they get localized. 2. TCGs also need to be protected from censorship. I'm REALY pisted about Sistermon Noir not being released in the USA!
I hate to say it, but despite what we had to deal with in the 80s to 2000s when it came to censorship it was atleast tame compared to what's going on now in my personal opinion. I still hate censorship regardless, but at this time I miss the censorship from back then.
I'd rather go back to putting up with characters getting drunk on "juice" or "tea" than have to read dialogue that has been completely rewritten or censored and seeing characters clothing constantly being censored because a little navel or thigh, or heaven forbid... panties being visible scared the hell out of the higher-ups.
I love how these localizers love to claim their reasons for these chances are because "Japanese is so bland and repititive"...while they themselve use the same expression in almost every localization...like seriously, how many games have you seen re-using the following expression? "Piece of cake!" "A sinch!" "When push comes to shove" "You/he/she don't pull any punches" "Have our/your work cut out for you/us" "No skin off my back" "Lets give it a whirl" "Looks like we've hit the jackpot" "Searching every nook and cranny" "Sticking out like a sore thumb" "Look alive, people!" "The Cat is outta the bag" "You can say that again" "Break a leg" "They're bringing out the big guns!" "We must not/I must not let my guard down!" "X is no walk in the park" "Everyone stay sharp!" "Give him a run for his money" "A real piece of work" "Small fry" "Looks like they're bringing out the big guns!" I mean, it's not necessarily a bad thing...but if they're gonna play that game they shouldn't complain when we point out they're doing the same.
I mean you definitely need to show appreciation for the creators who made this in the first place but they need to stop bending the knee to woke Western ideologies who won't pay good hard earned money for their services and also Crunchyroll LLC is a horrible company since they don't pay their workers for their services let alone can't pay their staff a decent wage, but also there is the fact that their infrastructure is lacking since most of the paid services won't give you decent viewing experience, but back to the point at hand, as an old saying goes, "You want me to shut my mouth? Just remember that my wallet goes shut with it." And these localization teams don't understand that we are the ones paying them but then again, they usually don't care because they are focused on getting crumbs from ESG funding. I know this was just a word salad, but this is just my personal thought process when it comes to this.
"Woke western ideologies" We literally force writers of western media to walk on Goddamn eggshells just to squeeze driplets of representation in media, trans people in particular have recently taken the spotlight of hate from a still-majorly right-wing "western world", and the "woke ideologies" are nothing like what the right wingers would try to fool you into thinking they are.
Thanks to stuff like wokalizers I do three things. What you stated, links to places to legitimately watch it without pirating if possible. The third option are on my alt accounts and link to pirating sources.
Piracy is definitely an ally here. It lets you enjoy and propagate the fandom while cutting out the toxic middlemen. It's still important to tell the official companies how you feel.
Thank you for the advice. I'm trying not to be negative, because I worry even the US takes an embargo worse than Australia if we try to fund the Japanese creators.
It depends on what games you're looking at I have Conception plus for PS4 and it doesn't have any unnecessary censorship However, to establish the Developer's Integrity they decided to put in a Warning Message when the game is booted up for people who are "Sensitive" to the content. Yes, they shouldn't have to do it. But, why risk being forced to patch their work later just to remove "Bad" Content There was one moment of Censorship that actually made sense to me though. In Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters there was a Swear word that was patched out in an update that wasn't actually intended in the first place to be said how it was said
I agree with a lot of your points. If we want to deal with these issues, we have to do it through what censorers care about. I do disagree with your take on memes because certain memes are timeless, as for example, even once people forget where it came from, people will probably keep using sus, just so they don't have to say suspicious. Also, osakabehime from fgo is one of my favorite servants because she is so cringey, but I will accept this as a matter of different tastes.
character dialogue for a show, book, play, etc. is supposed to match the characters personality and personal diction. that's writing a character 101. just throwing common memes or slang in for the sake of it because it happens to get the same meaning across changes perception of a character. Osakabehime is written to be like that so it works for her, but throw that kind of dialogue on someone like saber who speaks very proper and respectfully, then you'll lose that part of her personality. not only that but it could also change the mood and interpretation of a scene drastically. the youtuber explanation point has a great video series called sub vs dub that exemplifies what I mean. He shows the difference between the story and character of the japanese vs the english, specifically for madoka magica and my hero academia.
@@vladimirovna2478 very well spoken. I don't mean the memes are an all or nothing deal, if translators replace the term shady with the word sus, I don't think it's will be an issue, but things like resting bitch face or yeet'd, those will break suspension of disbelief. Also, I've been watching Exclamation point videos for a bit, but thanks for the suggestion.
I feel the differences in what one can accept as okay for the use of Meme or not boils down to Translation Vs Localization. Fans who want Translation just want the Dialog to remain as intact as possible. Localization is okay with changes that make is more relatable to their Culture. The best Solution is what River City Girls did with having both, but sadly I dont see that ever happening with Anime.
Timeless or not...memes have no right to be injected into someone else's work. Like imagine if someone decided to localize The Godfather in Japan and just decided to inject "timeless" memes into it....that would ruin it and I wouldn't blame the Japanese audience for being pissed off at a localizer that does stuff like that.
It depends. Most of the time, localizers are only able to corrupt their local version. The more these companies cross train with their western teams, the more their Japanese creators internalize the censorship. If a Japanese company blindly trusts its foreign localizers, those localizers can get away with a lot.
If there's one thing these censor happy wokelizers, corpos and journalists/colonizers fear, it's fans' voices. So stand up fight back. Vote with your wallets if you're unsatisfied. We won't accept excuses without sincere actions.
I don't see a comment pointing it out, but Seven Seas didn't handle the localization of Re:Zero, and I had to rewind to make sure I heard you right Dai. Re:Zero was done by Yen Press's Yen On imprint, not Seven Seas. Classroom of the Elite was the other noteworthy fuck up Seven Seas got caught on around the time of Mushoku Tensei's localization issues.
Honestly, all you have to do is delete your crunchyroll account then pirate anime and manga. Calling them out only does so much, ya gotta hit them where it hurts most and it’s their wallet.
I'm trans and a poc, I hate the censorship for the sake of pandering. However, how you here and many people in this community still handle dealing with the woke people quite poorly. There is also no small amount of people in the community who prove the woke people right and give them the ammunition to say they are doing important work my translating the way they do. If you really cared you would also fight within our ranks to clean things up so the woke wouldn't have any ammunition.
I mostly agree but i will push back a little. Localization is, by definition, changing the original work so a diffrent audience understands it better while maintaining the meaning and spirit of the work. The best example I can think of is a cultural joke in Japanese, something nobody outside of Japan would understand, Localizing it would be to change the joke to a related joke that the western audience would understand. While its not the same, it maintains the spirit of the show and enhances the experience for the foreign audience as they will laugh instead of being confused. The "No changes unless absolutely necessary" is akin to translation, not localization. Where the goal is raw text transference, not necessarily being understandable by the west. If you're trying to argue that all localization is unnecessary, I understand your argument but i disagree. While good translations will offer context bubbles for things the west don't understand, and I've seen this in games, this can hurt the flow of an anime for example. I think your "No changes" is a bit too harsh. What i do agree on is that current localization, isn't. The intent is clearly being changed in ways that aren't even remotely justifiable and are altering the work as a whole. I'm not against localization. We aren't getting localization, we are getting lied to.
OtakuDaikun does acknowledge that some change is necessary, especially when translating something untranslatable, but if you cannot translate the meaning, then you have to keep the spirit of the original. When you're changing the meaning of something that is translatable, that's a problem.
@Andrew Li you totally missed my point. What you're asking for is translation, not localization. You can correctly and accurately translate a joke from Japanese. That doesn't mean its funny in the west. That's why localization is a thing.
Thing is, nobody really complains when it's a joke being localized into a similar joke. I truly wish that were the extent. These localizers aren't in any way respecting the original. Best off hand example is in my Fire Emblem video where they change a girl being upset about weight gain into being embarrassed that she made an inelegant face while eating. A lot of this has a perfectly serviceable translation, and they change it even further for other motives. The rule should be, "accomplish the task with as few changes as humanly possible".
I really need to clarify something that most don't seem to know or understand with the pixiv situation. The reason that mastercard brought the hammer down was strictly for AI generated content. This is because some people were using hyperrealisric work as a cover to distribute and sell actual bad stuff such as gore, animal and...well you can figure it out. I honestly thought you of all people would look deeper into that.
It would have been nice for Pixiv to be much clearer in their statements if that's really the issue. I don't recall them specifying realism as the cause, nor did they assure users that stylized depictions of, say "animal stuff" was safe.
@@OtakuDaiKunYeah...pixiv was not very clear at all about why they were doing it. Something they admitted to later on. It took people doing some digging and knowing people inside pixiv to find out what was actually going on. Needless to say the whole thing was a mess.

Oh wow 😯 like my favorite character i love is being mistranslated a lot and pointing it out. Author has stated it too but gets overlooked on gender identity and gender pronouns for them being neutral and genderless. 😔 Only can keep speaking out the truth and hope one day its refix. 😔

@RamenBomberDeluxe I know, I just find that double standard really funny.
Or TLOU2 sex scene...it's hypocritical.
I've found it annoying how out of whack the priorities are with Western standards, with them being okay with gross stuff like gore while having a panic attack over female skin and body parts.
Censorship isn't designed to protect anyone it's designed to combat dissent.

I say send it to both. It cant hurt and just takes a few more minutes at most.
Hero Hei awakened me to this specific twitter underbelly, not sure if I should thank him or curse him for it...ffffine, thanks it is.
In regards to the four horseman:
Wokealizers: I like the name, and I pretty much agree with everything OtakuDaikun said here, specifically about taking screen shots of their inaccurrate translations and sending it to their bosses, like how OtakuDaikun tweeted to Sentai Film Works on Katrina's wrongful behavior.
@@thecompareablezombie "The right(Conservatives) supports censorship as well when thinking of the children"
I'm not sure what your reffering to censorship in regards to kids, unless you mean the banning of kids from heavily sexualized drag shows, and not having surgeries to mutilate themselves, in which case, yes, I agree with the conservatives on this issue, since children CAN'T consent, and we already have other laws in place to protect children from causing self harm including: no smoking under the age of 18, no drinking under the age of 18 ( though I believe its 21 in many states), and no gambling at casinos till a certain age.

In regards to censorship in anime and gaming in recent, years it's pretty obvious it's being done by people on the left, since since feminism, Transgenderism, and breaking out against traditional gender norms are all stuff the left SUPPORTS, and examples of censorship on these issues include the ones that Otaku Daikun have pointed out in this video and MANY others he made, so yes, people have the right to point out the left for doing these things.

They just tried that with Roald Dahl's books, but it just made the originals so valuable they republished them to capitalize on it lol
Sad thing is a lot of people are going to buy these Censored Copies and not even know it until its to late, if at all.
@@nobalkain624 Sounds to me like those translators are being dishonest towards the higherups.

While I think golden age of abridged series definitely influenced them, it's ultimately from their ego seeking to stand out and be noticed on socials by whackiest dialogue they can get away adding.

I am glad i watched it in japanese.
@@belstar1128 To be fair to the dub, the actors are actually good in their roles. It's just the translation/localization is borked from the get go.
Nah it's intentional.
They see Japanese as White people so they must be put down.

I heavily agree that Japanese artist and content creators shouldn't try to appeal to western standards and we need to have localizers provide accurate translations. If they want to that they can just make their own series instead of adding memes into the translation which will date the anime, manga or video game.

Probably, yeah.

I mean, it's not necessarily a bad thing...but if they're gonna play that game they shouldn't complain when we point out they're doing the same.
"Woke western ideologies"
We literally force writers of western media to walk on Goddamn eggshells just to squeeze driplets of representation in media, trans people in particular have recently taken the spotlight of hate from a still-majorly right-wing "western world", and the "woke ideologies" are nothing like what the right wingers would try to fool you into thinking they are.
Thats why its important to look into who you are Voting for, it you Vote that is.
Fantasy may have real life themes, but it is different from reality, and should never be censored.
Gotta remember Sony censorship too. Every game released on playstation has been censored in development.
Oh I'm aware.
It depends on what games you're looking at
I have Conception plus for PS4 and it doesn't have any unnecessary censorship
However, to establish the Developer's Integrity they decided to put in a Warning Message when the game is booted up for people who are "Sensitive" to the content.
Yes, they shouldn't have to do it. But, why risk being forced to patch their work later just to remove "Bad" Content
There was one moment of Censorship that actually made sense to me though.
In Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters there was a Swear word that was patched out in an update that wasn't actually intended in the first place to be said how it was said
Simple Sail the High Seas and support Fan Projects/ Creators
I... don't wanna live in this world anymore. Anyone know any tips and tricks to guaranteed Isekaiification?
I agree with a lot of your points. If we want to deal with these issues, we have to do it through what censorers care about. I do disagree with your take on memes because certain memes are timeless, as for example, even once people forget where it came from, people will probably keep using sus, just so they don't have to say suspicious. Also, osakabehime from fgo is one of my favorite servants because she is so cringey, but I will accept this as a matter of different tastes.
That's a tad different because she as a character is supposed to be spouting internet lingo.
character dialogue for a show, book, play, etc. is supposed to match the characters personality and personal diction. that's writing a character 101. just throwing common memes or slang in for the sake of it because it happens to get the same meaning across changes perception of a character.
Do localizers get final say on a shows script?
Welp, time for a Special summon. im gonna summon Dagda, Mach and Cailleach into Alter me's body.
Oh, my apologies. ReZero was still a mess though.
It stated back in the 40s
Honestly, all you have to do is delete your crunchyroll account then pirate anime and manga. Calling them out only does so much, ya gotta hit them where it hurts most and it’s their wallet.
What up doc is really funny to me keep it.
I fundamentally oppose that change. Finding small things like that acceptable only increases localizer ego, allowing for more horrendous changes.
29:44 it's funny you're using this guy as an example unfortunately I can't say the Alex Jones quote because this will get banned by UA-cam.
Yeah, it's mostly a joke for the Fate fans here.
@OtakuDaiKun but you know what I'm going to say it "Lolita Express"
I'm trans and a poc, I hate the censorship for the sake of pandering. However, how you here and many people in this community still handle dealing with the woke people quite poorly. There is also no small amount of people in the community who prove the woke people right and give them the ammunition to say they are doing important work my translating the way they do. If you really cared you would also fight within our ranks to clean things up so the woke wouldn't have any ammunition.
I'm gonna start learning Japanese.
Yea i am so glad i am learning japanese.
Alright boss what we gotta do
Watching this after hearing love Hina was delisted.
@@karrock8023 It's not just Love Hina, an entire manga site in Japan was shut down because credit card companies refused to support it.
@ right. Thank you. Still very bad
After seeing those people blocked you, now I know meaning of Snowflake!
the worst thing is how movies are allowed to do sexual stuff no one bendas an eye buzt the moment its from asia its demonized
Great video
My solution is simple: I call it the normie solution.
And last there social media which if you say the wrong idea you are cancel. I only had myspace and that was enough stress. But you were not alive unless you trash talk on halo 1,2,3. Those were the days.
Now make a video on how to win the war on Video Game censorship next.
It's the same thing as far as I'm concerned.
You know, I wonder what would happen if you just called these people racist. I don't believe it's racism but it'd just be funny to see the hoops they go through to defend it
Oh wow 😯 like my favorite character i love is being mistranslated a lot and pointing it out. Author has stated it too but gets overlooked on gender identity and gender pronouns for them being neutral and genderless. 😔
Only can keep speaking out the truth and hope one day its refix. 😔
What character is it?
