I have listened to these songs for almost 30 years and, even as a musician myself, I didn’t really understand the musical genius of these songs until I saw it presented this way. Absolutely awesome stuff. Thanks!
Agreed. It blows my mind that these excellent compositions were all made just to fuel a video game's ambience. To this day, it's one of my top 5 games ever played.
@@JohnOethGuitar well said. When you capture the essence of the music, even through subtile rythm choices, to the millisecond, it says something about your interpretation of the song. And god knows I've spent hours looking at average to mediocre covers. But you are something else. You talk to my soul. Thank you so much for your work. You really are recreating the atmosphere the player was in. That's the most important.
You can't beat the original arrangement, but man... so many of his songs feel like the belong right in the game. It's not just a good series of arrangements for guitar. I feel like he captures the essence of each scene and moment in his play style.
I love the fact that you chose to play Descendant of Shinobi in a forest. Feels like Yuffie is going to pop out from behind one of those trees and steal all of your materia.
Of course and thanks so much! It is only possible because of generous people like yourself. I'll be working on the next volume over the next two years.
I clicked on this as a DIE HARD FF7 fan and saw it was over an hour and was like "HELL NO", needless to say i watched the whole video and i'm glad i did. Beautiful man, beautiful. I respect your art.
Thanks for the kind words and support! I would love do some Ghibli music. I have Path of the Wind (My Neighbor Totoro) and Merry Go Round of Life (Howl's Moving Castle) on my running to-do list.
Man.. those moments at 46:59. When the heart of hate sees the blazing sun of Seto's love for the first time and is completely transformed by it's brilliance. Hardest hitting moment in FF7, imo. Amazing guitar playing!
Words can't express how deeply this performance warms my heart. But aside from getting sentimental, hearing these pieces as solo guitar arrangements really drives home how complex and unique some of the harmony is. Uematsu can get crunchy when the situation calls for it! Thank you for breathing your spirit into these brilliant tunes.
Thanks for all you do, John. You inspire us with your craft and the diligence you cultivate in order to produce such massive projects like this. May the saga continue! 🎼Cheers
Been a bit since I’ve commented or listened but getting nearly an hour and a half straight of you covering this world’s memorable and genre defining tracks makes my day. Thanks John.
This music makes me feel my childhood again and again. For me, FFVII contains the best music of Final Fantasy saga. It is not easy to find musical compositions of this quality, even outside the world of video games. Well done, congratulations for your guitar arrangements. And thank you so much. From Spain.
Hearing "Those who fight" gave me chills how well you captured the full sound of that song. Very impressed and thanks for reminding me of the many hours of fun and excitement.
Amazing. FF7 had a midi sound track back in the day when I played it on the PSone. This arrangement is so close to the original. I cannot believe how good the costa de sands and the golden Saucer one was arranged. You are awesome !
Appreciate that! I do my best to bring out the essentials of each track and do them justice in the performance. Both of those tracks are so nostalgic that I wanted to make sure I got them right.
I’m 30 sec in. That’s all I needed to convince to subscribe. This connected and hit a cord. I’m finishing the comment and the first song is just over. I’m so high right now! BBQ chicken right now. 😊. And second song😊end. Still enjoying this😊
Cloud Smiles is just the way I imagine Cloud smiling sounds like. Such a great song, full of hope, right up there with the greats of any Final Fantasy. :)
Hey John. From a separate thread, noticed that you were thinking to compile a Volume 2? For your consideration, since there r so many Tifa fans out there (me, s well) & also I can totally hear a really nice guitar rendition in my head, how about “A Tower, a Promise”?
Appreciate you! Yes, there will be a second album with a similar amount of tracks that I'll be plugging away at over the next two years. For that track, I don't think I could do to much different than my arrangement of Dear to the Heart.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful renditions of this beloved music! I would love to hear your take on the Corel Prison music (Desert Wasteland)!
Extraordinary, as usual from this channel. Your ability to turn these tracks into actually playable guitar versions is next level. Have you ever had moments with these songs where you'd think "this is impossible"?
Oh for sure. I think I attempted arranging Flowers Blooming in the Church three different times before I figured out how to approach it. Thanks for listening!
