Bekele left no doubt about the definition of greatness in this video. Loved running across country in HS but I was only running to place for the team not to win the race. That honor goes to Kenenisa Bekele.
This series did not provide enough attention to the 2005 victories; in terms of personal significance, his 2005 double win following the death of his fiance and on the back of one or two losses on the indoor track was one of the defining moments of his career.
A video idea: athletes that overcame a mid-race setback and came back to win the race! This race, Lasse Viren 1972 Olympics, Kamworor 2016 Half Marathon Championships, Eric Liddel 400m race all come to mind
Great content as always man... Because of your channel, I'm hooked to track and field and cross country event's. I may not know all the athletes name, but, because of these videos I can say I know most of their names. Props to you. Keep up the great work ✌🏻
Thank you for these awesome content. Growing up, Bekele and El Guerrouj were my favourite runners. It's nice to see Bekele in 2021 still going strong and I hope it can translate in yet another olympic (gold?) medal. That would be the cherry on top of the cake.
@@jasonfeng3888 this vid isn't just about one particular race.it's actually a sequel to another video on Bekele's unprecedented cross country dominance. TRP even linked that previous vid above.

It also helps to explain 2 things - his great performances in the marathon, and his disappointments in the marathon in which he was forced to drop out. Kenenisa Bekele never took up the half marathon. If he had he would have been the best in the world for awhile.
No doubt the best. But I think recency bias makes you forget about Paavo Nurmi aka the Flying Finn - who might rival him in terms of achievements. Nurmi was never once beaten in cross country over a period of 19 years.
People forget that bekele was a monster at track and field and cross country for many years .....they dont understand that eventually those years of abuse they will pass facture to your body anyways until this time I havent seem anyone dominate in both cross country and track for so long not even cheptagai that has the world record ...the one i see the closes probably is kiplimo ....because he also implemented road racing and that is something bekele didnt do until the end of his track career
No questions, he came back from the shoe incident like riding a bicycle passing not just runners but the world's elite and performing after and incredible finish. The guy was way over everyone else's level. Is funny when people compare him to other long distance runners. Not even Kipchoge has ever been that far from the rest.

yeah for cheptegei to get even close he would have to be able to repeat bekele's performances and then some which I think at this point isn't possible

After the new WR’s by Cheptegei it’s good to spread the word about just how great Bekele was! It’s amazing how quickly people forget....
