In this weeks painting of Fenway Park I have used the image above as a springboard to a more imaginative composition and portrayal of this motif. A problem crossed miming as I looked at the photo - I saw many interesting shapes and patterns in the motif and so from first glance Wanted to create a painting of this view - I felt the light was very flat and the thought occurred to me to paint this as a rainy day scene. I would make you of the perspective the interesting silhouettes and juxtapose figures and reflections onto the scene. Through some sketches I became familiar with this subject and have a good understanding of the essential qualities of the shapes. I experimented with placing the subject a little high in the vertical sheet to increase the drama and increase the opportunities for reflections. It should be clear the while the view is exaggerated Fenway Park is built onto a rising hill. This big empty space below in the space in the lower half of the painting lets me generate more atmosphere and drama. The idea was arrived at naturally and organically as my mind played with the parts. I have come to feel that this is much more fluid after coming to know the scene so well.
As with each and every video I realize how lucky we are to have this access to your wonderful teaching. Thanks

Beautiful! Great lesson
Thank you kindly Doug!
It may seem at first that you're vaguely following a plan, leaving everything to chance, but then I understand how precisely and masterfully you achieve your goal. The same goes for your brushstrokes. Very, very impressive, thank you very much for this demonstration which makes me realize that I've still got quite a job ahead of me....
