      There is nothing wrong with being scientifically literate, even though you will probably not remember any of it a year from now. It helps to try and figure out why it MAY be important in todays world.

    dude i just want to say that you're the reason im passing, and also doing well in physics. You explain everything so well and clearly. I went from getting 3/10 on a quiz to getting 87.5% on a big test just 2 days later and every time since then as long as i use your videos to study I do very well. I can't thank you enough for them and the fact that its all free amazes me, so thank you!

    Hi Mr. Swarthout, I'm grateful to see your videos, I just found them -- I'm studying for my CSET exams...
    I'm either missing something or just not seeing it -- At about 7:06 "... if the object is at 2f there is no image, because the rays are parallel..." -- yet the example shows the green arrow object is at f. Did I see & hear this correctly? I don't have a chance to read all history comments... I just want to make sure I am seeing the example/explanation correctly.

    • @stepbystepscience
      @stepbystepscience  8 років тому +1

      Maybe I said it incorrectly but....if the object is at 2f then the image will be at 2f on the other side of the lens, if the object is at f then there is no image because the light rays come out of the lens parallel...as shown in the diagrams. Does that help?

      Kushagra Ratnam If you are try to actually draw the lens then pick a radius and put the pointer on two different points on the same line. If you want to draw the ray diagrams then you need a ruler and not a compass. I don't have time to make a video about actually drawing the lenses.

    Thanks bro. I missed three days of class for AP exams and had no idea how to do these. My final quiz is tomorrow and you probably just stopped me from failing. :)
    Also thanks for discussing divergent rays, I couldn't find that info anywhere.

    @9:20 in the video, you explain about the magnified glass over a paper. Are we really seeing a "Virtual" image when we use a magnified glass over a text book/paper?

    • @stepbystepscience
      @stepbystepscience  11 років тому

      yes, you are seeing a virtual image, when you look through a concave lens you always see a virtual image (diverging rays) and when you look at yourself in a flat/plane mirror (think dressing room) you see a virtual image of yourself.

    • @narayananraman8298
      @narayananraman8298 11 років тому

      There is no light passing through it in case of a plane mirror. Right? That is why we call our own image as a virtual image. CMIIW.

    • @stepbystepscience
      @stepbystepscience  11 років тому

      Light does not pass through any mirror (in theory), there are of course "two way mirrors". In the case of a plane mirror what you see is always a virtual image. The same is true for a convex mirrors, always a virtual image. For a concave mirror the image is virtual when the object is inside the focal point (the object distance is less then f). Hope that helps.

    there is mistake at 11:08. image formed when object is kept at F is infinity. It is highly enlarged real and inverted. But you have given the comparison no image.
