- Hello! Today we go on a secret adventure to check out some of the newest VR devices from HTC. From a mind blowing trippy mixed reality experience to one of the coolest updates in the world of full body tracking.. I think its time we look at how far VR has come!
We've come a long way since Quest 2, Index, and Cosmos.

I had a ton of fun testing out the new Vive tracker S and I was pretty impressed with HTC's mixed reality demo. I really really wish Meta would spend some resources to make really awesome mixed reality tech demos to be honest. Goes a LONG way. I guess we'll see pretty soon with the Quest 3!

What's up thrill?
how about how far we have come since the DK2 or my still rollin workhorse. Rift CV1 lol i9 pc ded. Rift CV1 still working hard lol.
I still dont see mixed reality ever being usefull for just a normal vr gamer. And it being forced into every headset to boost its price sucks.
Also my hairtora x probs gonna get replaced by the new vive trackers lol
Basestation quality full body tracking *without* the need for basestations, works with *any* headset even *without* a PC, and is *within* the average consumer budget?! That's *exactly* what I'm looking for! I have a PC, but it's no longer really capable of handling most of the VR games I wanna play like Blade and Sorcery; and so while I work on getting the money to buy the rest of the stuff I need to build a much *more* powerful PC, I might have to play standalone on my Quest 2 for a while, and it'll be *awesome* to be able to *finally* get into full body tracking, and *quality* full body tracking, in *spite* of that setback, and in *spite* of not being able to afford the basestation setup! Be sure to let people know when it's available!
I want those HTC trackers so badly. i dont care for the price. ill pay 800 for all of them.
Due to being camera tracked, basestationless vive trackers wouldn’t decide to launch me into space at random times then fling me back like a slingshot because it wasn’t in view of a base station for a millisecond. So I think that’s neat already.
Oh my god this is the constant issue I have, only except it decides to drift at hip level constantly and occasionally die completely
Except for the time when you are in a dim room, and someone else turns on the light
Thats my experience with the XR Elite at least XD
they still might go flying from accelerometer errors later in their life cycle; should be rarer and only while starting to die though, I'd imagine.
I mean, 4 base stations with a dedicated space for VR will always be better than inside-out or camera tracked, since you'll never be out of sight from more than two base stations at a time unless someone covers the base station or puts an obstacle in the space. And if that happens you have bigger problems than being yeeted into space.
@@StormTheSquid If only I could afford 4 base stations and 2.0 controllers :(
these new trackers are a game changer. totally gonna use them for full body... and not.... white claw tracking in vrchat...
Are you two dating

Hi virtual reality show I love your tshannel ant I love virtual reality
Born too late to explore earth
Born too early to explore the stars
Born just in time for the birth of VR
and potentially birth of AI 😀
Holy fuck you're right though...
20 years ago I would have laughed in your face if you told me actual good quality VR would be a thing within a decade or two. And look at where we're at now... Not just VR, but full body tracking, haptic suits, mixed reality, and those things that allow you to walk/run in real life for movement in VR. And it all got developed in the span of like 10 years.
AI is advancing medical research so quickly that they'll probably figure out how to reverse aging soon.
@@vagrant1943 I'm not sure if you realize how much of a problem that would be. We're heavily struggling with sustainable resource consumption already... 🙃
Hearing about advancements in VR is something that is just always a pleasure to hear.
imagine if valve created a game called VR-mod. they could use the half life alyx engine or maybe even work with bonelabs… The idea is it’d be like gMod where people can create worlds and mods and servers and entire games…
Your dedication to the cause is heart warming.
dude those vive trackers have BIG potential for flight simmers.. I have a throttle with a panel of switches and buttons that I fumble around for in VR, if those could be used to pass through the panel into VR it'd be incredible
It's get even more interesting if you realise that you don't actually need any electronics inside the "joystick". For a very minimal setup you just need a stick with return spring providing tension.
Actually, for that the way how a Quest can "see" some of those tracked keyboards would be much more viable. Just make the thing show up as a 3d model as soon as you're close to touching it. Additional tracking cams might increase the precision of that though.
@@Doktoreq that's cool for casuals but not for me lol, my joystick has like 25 buttons on it and I need every single one of them
@@Doktoreq Good point! I just realised what you meant. 'Customisable spring tension (dumb) levers/joysticks' are going to be selling like hotcakes in 2025.
I still don't know user definable pass through windows aren't a thing. Even without trackers it should be possible for headsets like quest pro. They just need x,y,z coordinates for the pass through window edges. In an overlay in front of the PC game you are playing (streaming to the headset). That way steering wheels or joysticks or button boxes could be visible or optionally maybe semi transparent in game.
Bro, it's insane how far VR and xr have come, in such a short time. I take what you said to heart, about how the next decade could be a bit scary because of how fast technology is growing, but I try to look at it from multiple angles. Of course, it could be scary, but also it could be very beneficial for certain businesses. The thing I'm most worried about is the fact that if people want to switch everything to AR, then some people couldn't use it because of getting headaches and nausea from wearing AR glasses or contact lenses for so long. I don't know lol, just a bit of a ramble but that's how I feel about it. (By the way, I would just like to compliment your B-roll footage, its amazing!)
When it come to the people in VRC who really want fbt the Base stations are usually the biggest obstacle. This thing would help a lot :)
The real obstacle is when you don't have enough space in that room your PC is in. Having base stations like 30+m away from your PC and the headset as well is basically almost impossible. Having a true standalone kit with FBT capability solves this issue completely, just play in the biggest room you got regardless where your rig is and just _virtual desktop_ the $#!+ out of it! /)
@@CakePrincessCelestia that would indeed be great but also not having to constantly explain to people: "... yes you need those sensors for it to work. No it won't work with just the quest ...."
Thrill, I’ve never even owned a VR headset but I can totally feel what you’re talking about with the blurring of reality. LYSM, keep doing what you’re doing buddy.
Ready Player One is truly a reality now. I know that's it's been said it has been that way for like 2 years, but this is so much closer than ever before. You're right, tech is moving very quickly. So quickly it's hard to comprehend. But I'm excited!
I have been waiting for stuff like this for so long and it's only going to get better and it has me excited! 🥰
Not a lot of trackers make me as excited as this one!
This is going to be really cool for filmmakers who were using/want to use vive trackers to track their real camera alongside a virtual camera in a digital environment to put an actor against a greenscreen into a fully rendered scene in real time. Not needing the base stations makes the film set a lot easier to set up. Even if these are like $200 a pop ($70 more than the current vive tracker 3.0) It would be totally worth it for that use case, but might make it a hard sell for VR users. Interested to see how that shakes out.
thanks for sharing :-) so many cool toys out there and even more coming soon
3 things came together at the right moment for me to get into vr, 1 - needed a new device to play games and videos, 2 - bonus pay from work because of pay I didn't know I was missing out on and 3 - started seeing your videos.
From your videos a couple months ago I got lead to other UA-camrs that do vr and now I love it.
Thank you so much.
I just play maybe 3 hours a day in various games but I normally just sit and watch videos, so I have become more active and happier.
Wish I had got into this all earlier.
Super cool and exciting video!! I needed this tysm
So essentially a Pico 4 (or any other wifi headset) with the new Vive trackers will be god-tier. Your entire house could be your playspace, as long as your wifi reach allows it. Then just model it and use it in vrchat lol along with mixed reality to see certain things around your house.
Or you could just buy an apartment with all white painted surfaces and customize it to your liking (if you wanted to live in VR)
pico 4 passthrough is really ugly though. it would still have to use the pico4 cameras for passthrough right?
@@jimmy8x541 True. You get what you pay for I suppose, it's a cheap all-round solution. Future may bring a better and affordable headset for this scenario.
Your content is always fun to watch. The best content is content that is your own and unique to you, I’m not talking about the style of content you make or the specific way you make it, weather slow paced video or fast paced video it doesn’t matter, if you stop being you and try to conform to something else or something your not that’s when the content becomes mundane and unpleasant. Cuz I know you said Tuesday newsday was never something you really wanted to do, and you always wanted to change it up, but I’m saying don’t be scared of the community, even if 80% fall away if your having fun making videos that’s making videos and not having fun. Anyways love you man ❤️
Thanks for the video ThrillSeeker
Love your vids and content! Keep killin’ it!
Thanks for these vr updates!!
Little story time:
I watched your first Varjo video while I was sick from covid. I had no sense of taste, and I was hungry. Not exactly because my stomach was empty, just that I was craving some kind of food-sensation. Well, I never liked canned sardines, but my dad loves it so we always have a lot at home. I thought this'd be the perfect opportunity, as I couldn't taste it, but I could enjoy its texture.
And I did! It was great! Never really had it again, I still hate it, but that one time was wonderful!
But because I ate it while watching that video, now, _every single time_ when I hear Varjo, I think of the taste of sardines. I've accidentally Pavlov'd myself into associating high-end VR with sardines
I love to be inspired. And you just did that with that video. Thank you!
Happy to be here! Excited to see the new vid
Yes! I got the vive xr elite and I love it! Looking forward in getting the new vive trackers and I'll be set. Thanks for the vid!
These vids are so good, and then there is the outro...cherry on top. just so good!
4:35 - that's such a cool shot + transition!
Amazing video, makes me hopeful for whats to come next!
Your work is amazing!
Great content as always.
I'm going to college for engineering, and making this kind of stuff is exactly what I want to do in the future.
Thank you so much for making these videos over the years, I have watched every single one you put out for a long time now, and you may not realize it, but you're videos have actually had a massive impact on my life and deciding where I want to go in life.
Likewise! Thrill's channel has inspired me to look into both computer hardware and software on a level I never would have expected to be interesting, and I am forever grateful.
This looks really cool. The rate of AI development also makes me optimistic for a massive boom in the rate of development in the VR space.
Love your content!
Been hoping someone would make inside-out slam trackers for a while. Excited get my hands on these and to make them work with SlimeVR 😊
great vid thrill, vive tracker S hype!!
imagine turning your house into an arcade walking through it trying to choose a game to play out of your steam library like thats a crazy thought
It's so exciting to see the progress of VR and XR devices! I loved seeing the toucan fly through the portal.
I am glad you see the object potential here. VR tools, firearms, swords, etc. It will totally turn the idea of "what is a vr usable object" on its head.
Cheaper and smaller hardware = More onboarding
That’s the name of the game for social VR
Another great video, thanks for the coverage :)
I wonder if the mixed reality feature can help people with the Alzheimer's Disease? This mix reality feature sounds more useful than just fun and convenient.
in what way?
how so
@@deddrz2549 Well, helping people with Alzheimer's disease tell between what's real and what's not.
@@deddrz2549 more granular directions for actions and locations of where things are
I feel like it will cause me premature Alzheimer’s, unable to tell what is even really anymore 😅
I’m thrilled for another video!
You finally talked about mixed reality the way it deserves! I really wanted to know your opinion about it, since it is a technology that I have known for years but it is not talked about much by a more recognized youtuber. Excellent video as always!
I see these trackers and all I am thinking is we nee Konami to get into the VR scene so we can do DDR in VR. Can you imaging a DDR gathering in VR chat and everyone is playing DDR together at the same time! Like a dance off elimination game but a party! Okay I might need to start programming a DDR clone. We need more foot tracked games.
So early! The self contained trackers look exciting.
I’ve been seeing a bunch of ads with the new vive head set and I’ve been waiting for thrill seekers review on it, awesome it’s finally here
4:40 I couldn't stop laughing when he was so close and just staring at the wall
Every video keeps my love for VR/XR/AR alive
the new slam tracked vive trackers are something I suggested to meta right after the quest pro controllers hit. I am really glad someone decided to do it!
I've always felt that the headsets up to the quest 2 were basically "early adopter" headsets. The first few generations where everything is still new and research into what works and doesn't, and how to improve the tech is still in it's very early stages. On top of that VR in general still had a bit of a niche status for the longest time. That's the only thing I will wholeheartedly praise the Quest 2 for. As it's the first headset that truly appealed to a mass market, and brought a lot of visibility and popularity to VR in general.
And now it seems we're stepping into the next step of VR. Where more serious and refined headsets are being made or researched. And where tech really starts to advance for new generations.
I'm personally waiting for the next headset that Valve will inevitably release in the future. The Index has been an undeniable giant in the VR scene. Not for popularity, but for pretty much everything else. Mic and sound quality, comfort, customer support, resolution though that's falling behind now, refresh rate, customisation, price, still being the only one with individual finger tracking on the controllers, etc.)
Exciting news! XR seems rad.
_Excellence._
Liking, commenting, and already subscribed.
Can't wait for these!
I am so excited when I see a new hardware showcase from Thrill.
Oh my god new thrill video time to watch yay
This makes me so happy
ok now we know why dogs and cats stare at walls, they have ar build in their brains for their entertainment
So Vario cost $6500 and Apple Vision Pro cost $3500 and people still are saying Vision pro is too expensive
4:29
guy staring at a wall: hahaha theres a wall here!!!
his laugh is cute though
Awwww yeahhh more vr tech content!
I hope to get the new vive trackers! I really want my first FBT and this seems worth waiting for \o/
They look super good. FBT is honestly a game changer, especially for VRC. Hopefully they come out soon.
Great vid!
those new vive trackers are looking really compelling
All I want is tracking like this and a Vario like pass through experience in a Beyond style form factor, then I'll finally adopt. It looks like we're FINALLY getting there slowly but surely. It's so good to see VR finally innovating & progressing.
You explaining looking through the wall portal sounds like a great psychedelic experience 😊
These new standalone trackers sound great for people like me, as my play space is L shaped ad my double bed gets in the way and it makes it so if I had normal trackers I'd need 3 or 4 baystations to cover the full play space but with these new cam based ones I could actually use them.
Powerful ending music.
Ready player one here we come!
I often feel a bit upset at the situation the world is often in, and the way people can be at times
yet, whenever I look to see the progress VR is making it actually somehow excites me for the future
thanks for keeping us up to date, and shining a bit of a ray of hope into the future!
NGL, all the $#!+ going on currently is even more so a reason to just hide in VR and enjoy every single moment of it! :D
YESSSS VIDEO
5:00 sounds amazing, horrifying and like a lot of accidents 😂
Love your content
Amazing - looks like the future!
1 note, there is a difference in terminology. XR is a combination between VR, AR, and MR. MR is different to AR as in AR is just stuff inprinted onto your screen, but MR is mixed in the sense that the physical world in your screen can interact, bump, or block portions of the overlayed graphics. Hope that made sense!
This reminds me of the AR cards for the 3DS! I loved those!
best vr youtuber for sure! / vr content source
When I first saw your coverage of the Beyond headset I was ready to go all-in to a full base station setup, but seeing how fast this tech is improving is making me reconsider. I might give it another year before I drop a ton of money on something that'll be outclassed so soon.
Yeah honestly i'd wait a bit if I were you!!!!
If you don't have base stations already its a very hard sell
Yeah, base stations are on their way out. Especially if they get these and standalone headsets wifi 7 capable. Good news for me, considering I'm a minimalist.
I'm really impressed with HTC engineering with these products! but I do have to say that the XRE still needs work on the software, that's why I returned the headset for now and went back to the base station setup. I really wanted to go all out with just small factor with everything including VR but I guess time will tell.
Should wait longer because there won't be any big titles releasing on PC VR for many years, all the big VR titles coming out will release on the Playstation 5 the next 4-5 years
@@shellshockvr I hope PSVR2 has some good titles down the road, but I personally prefer the PCVR space. There's lots of great independent games out there which usually don't make it to consoles.
The new trackers will allow us to use a much larger space it seems which can really open things up for us to pull off some crazy moves in VR when coupled with a wireless headset
Amazing, what a time to be alive!
Like you say these next 10 years are going to be mind-boggling.
The Vive trackers could be used on physical stand-ins for weapons and tools in games, combined with the XR tracking capabilities of future headsets, to allow the user to take those out of a 'cabinet' for use. Maybe even allow the things to be placed semi-freely on something like a table or propped against a wall so a game could dynamically make use of the room's real geometry and contents to create a virtual room in which the tool or weapon is encountered for the first time and picked up.
The HTC VIVE was my first headset and honestly I'm really looking forward to your XR Elite review, as it looks to be my future goto headset with my developing nomad lifestyle, where space is a premium!
I experimented with a super tiny slam based object tracking setup back in 2014 and getting so so hyped when it finally worked. I could see the future in that brief tech demo. Issues were: battery life, fidelity (issues with high movement speed due to frame rate), and overall processing power requiring a high contrast environment.
I'm amazed it has taken a decade for the processing and camera tech to be good enough to do it with high fidelity in real time. I can't imagine it would be cheap. Imus can do full body tracking under $100 if you have the skills. Not as good but cheap cheap cheap.
These are really promising, can't wait to see these when they release
It’s like the screen glasses by hp, that allow you to sit anywhere and have a full-size screen while also still seeing around you.
All of this news is super exciting
VR man comes with good news again, very cool
4:32 they outlawed that.. wait a minute 😂😂🍄
id like to imagine walking into a room and someone pointing and laughing at a wall saying theres a portal to the amazon rainforest
I recieved the HTC Vive XR Elite headset a few days ago after ordering mid February and I've got to say it is super fun, the wireless streaming from pc is perfect even on my out of spec wifi, biggest thing is the face cushion is not super comfy and for me it needs more cover on the bottom to not let light leak. Can't wait to see how this headset develops.
Always wanted to grab anything and bring it into VR. These SLAM trackers look awesome
I hope the biggest thing engineers do with the trackers is make sure the dongle has passthrough for battery banks or people with head straps that have a charging function. Really excited for these!
This is truly insane! I'm saving for the quest 3 when it comes out, and it's gonna be sick!
Pico 4. Nuff said.
@@cmnidit4444 The Quest 3 is going to be better than the pico 4, also the pico 4’s software is a bit lacking and buggy, same with the game library. I’d wait for it to improve before buying it
@@cmnidit4444 it doesn't have the same amount of apps as the quest does, nor depth sensors or colour pasthrough (? I think)
Facts
@@plasmibot It has color passthrough, but yeah no depth sensor, less apps, worse software, and worse hardware. Which makes sense, it’s a generation behind the quest 3
Put those trackers, Quest Pro controllers and The Beyond headset together and youve got the ultimate setup for lightweight full immersion VR. The only thing left is getting it to last more than a couple hours with better battery tech
Oh those trackers have such much more potential than just XR.
Put them on any diy robotic platform and all that's left is collision avoidance.
Or camera tracking, this opens up a new world hobby filmmakers with ease of use.
The reason for base stations is a marker is way cheaper than a SoC and camera, and lasers work well. With only 2 or 3 trackers, you can probably track all the trackers you will use.
That xr really got you looking like vr junkie straight out of a sci-fi movie as you inspect a wall with such fascination.😊
5:24 im definitely getting that when it comes out. But in the meantime slime VR is almost here!
The use case for creativity is also there -- and huge. The idea that anyone can sort of track their body in realtime is crazy for game development, even outside of VR.
man i am SO excited for the vive trackers, for some reason i never realized how amazing seeing your legs move around in vr is for immersion. not even to mention more opportunities like soccer games, i never thought of that. not even to mention the fact that a tracker can be strapped to any object and be used for almost anything. still, the only problem i have is games just arent implementing it, and i get why, but still ://
Being someone who is about to launch a AR Geo Location app, this video has me pumped for the future :D
Sweet! Maybe Varjo will drop there yearly subscription.
Those new Vive trackers have so much cool potential beyond FBT, looking forward to seeing what people come up with.
