I've noticed virtually all tutorials of this pattern illustrate some flavor of olive. Is there any other prominent colors which seem to carry a confident following?

Hi Eric, that makes sense considering the WD-40 is a popular Blue Wing Olive emerger imitation. However, the color can certainly be altered to match other bugs. Try tying a few up in black or grey.

    What other colors work well?

WD-40 means what? Obviously not a lubricant! 😜

"At the time, Engler's concoction did not have a name, so he asked Abe Chavez what he should call it. Chavez said, 'Let's call it the Wet Dream - you fish it wet and it works like a dream. It routinely catches forty fish a day, so let's call it the WD-40.' (103)"
