  • For more than 35 years, Amanda Pelman has worked behind-the-scenes in the Australian music industry as a manager, producer, and publicist. In the mid-1980s, Pelman joined Mushroom Records where she worked with artists such as Split Enz, Models, Uncanny X-Men, and Kids in the Kitchen. In 1987, she was instrumental in convincing Michael Gudinski to sign Kylie Minogue to Mushroom Records, and in 1988, she co-founded Melodian Records with Ian “Molly” Meldrum, launching the careers of popstar Peter Andre, Indecent Obsession and Jo Beth Taylor.
Throughout her career, Pelman has worked as a producer on a number of high profile live events including the Long Way to the Top concert series in 2002 (with Michael Chugg and Billy Thorpe), and the David Bowie tribute, Nothing Has Changed, which featured performances from Australian artists Deborah Conway, Tim Rogers, Steve Kilbey and Adalita.
In this interview with Brian Nankervis, Pelman talks about working at Mushroom Records, the day that Michael Gudinski dropped Kylie Minogue’s cassette on her desk, and her time managing Jimmy Barnes.

Amanda I loved this interview. Thank you for all your effort and care when you worked with us. We may not have always been the easiest group to deal with, in fact quite painful at times I'm sure. You set me right on quite a few things, and I'm forever grateful. Love from one of the people lucky enough to have been in your impressive and truly capable orbit, all those years ago.

'enervating' is actually the opposite of 'energising'. Oops.
