- In part 3 we fix the shift fork we found broke in the last video and put the case back together. I hope with this video and the video's down below you'll be able to see a little clearer on how to fix this issue.
I can't wait to get everything back together and take this audi tt 225 for a drive.
Please Like this Video that's how someone that has this problem will find it.

As someone who works on mechanical pocketwatchs; the gear assembly looks fun to do haha!
lol yes funny you should say pocket watches. My son and I have been watching this show and one of the guys fixes watches. I've never been into them but I really like the ones you can see all the gears moving.
Grade “8” (sometimes identified on the Bolt by six raised dashes on the Bolt), or higher, are the best Bolt(s) to replace the “Rivet” - that sh*t will never break, even if you’re slamming Gears, or so they say…
I recently picked up a 02m at the junkyard. Tech drilled hole through case to drain gear oil, he did have drain plug socket.
I'll be splitting the case to clean out any shavings that might of gotten inside.
Thanks for posting. Looking forward to the next episode...
What in the world. Why drill a hole. Just leave the fluid in.
@@JakeRawSon That's what the tech at the pick n pull did. He didn't have the correct tool. Tried using vice grips on the lip of the drain bolt. Chewed it up.
Last resort, drill hole through case. I guess, all oils must be drained before being placed in the yard.
Sucks...
@@05glisedan Really sucks. I didn't know they did that.
"I probably put way too much gasket sealer on there". I was giggling before you time lapsed to the end of that sequence cause I knew what would happen. Makes me think of that meme with antiseize "just a little" next pic is the tin man from Wizard of Oz. We all do it.
lol yes
Wish you could do longer and more technical videos :) Put all this in a Corrado!
I feel like some of the big youtube guys should of done a lot of these video's already. There making a living doing this stuff and get paid well.
jake you are on point with these videos . good stuff big thumbs up
Great job, this mod works and no need for steel forks that cost more than a couple of bolts. I would have done 3rd and 4th shift fork while you where in there.
I was thinking about it but I don’t see myself slamming 3rd and 4th that hard.
And might be going back in to install a lsd in the future. Would of been great to do it now but just don’t have the money.
@@JakeRawSon I understand completely, and enjoy your videos.
Could you publish the torque for the housing screws? Thank you
You got the shifter tree in like it was nothing! I'm struggling a whole lot to get it in.
Take your time doing it. It took me awhile just keep turning it slowly and pushing it in
oh is it supposed to do a full rotation to get it into place? your video sped up the process of doing it. I've bene struggling with this for over half an hour. I get it in about 90% of the way, but it's not in straight and won't sit all the way in. @@JakeRawSon
I got it. Turns out that when I had it in the almost in position, all I had to do was force it to the center against spring pressure and that was all it needed.
Awesome! - 👍🏼
The bolt just looks too smaller diameter to cope, you could see it's snapped rather than come out. I wonder if drilling out the hole and fitting a bigger diameter bolt is the best solution, from a 10mm head to 12mm. Then also copy the weld to avoid any chance of it coming out.
Hey man I’m having an issue with a golf I just bought last month. Previous owner replaced the clutch, it drives fine in all gears expect reverse when I’m backing up a hill it pops out, some people are saying it needs an adjustment and others are saying the reverse gear is shot, I have a video I can post a link too
Well done man per usual.
Thank you 🙌🏼
I have a 2001 scrambler 500, when I give it hard throttle the shifter moves into neutral. Dunno if shifter fork or gear dogs
Great videos - thanks
What is the torque spec for the bolts that hold the transmission together?
Can you do a video for motorcycle shift forks or is it pretty similar.
Great work
Hey jake what type of bolt did you use to repair that fork. I want to do the same type of repair.
I took the shift fork with me and found the biggest bolt that would fit. I think it was a grade 8 bolt.
Wish you showed how exactly you pulled the forks out and went a little more in depth. I got my 225 few months ago and after a month my fork snapped. just getting to this part now. Great vid tho anyways
Once you get the gear stacks out you will see it's easy to pull the forks out.
@@JakeRawSon do the gear stacks just lift up?
finished my swap to my surprise i have the same exact issue, did this fix lasted for you?, any updates on that
@@gianpierolg3563 yes still works perfect
Hello good work buddy I have broke my 5th and 6th shift fork can it be replaced?
yes or just do the same thing I did
@@JakeRawSon thank you buddy it’s 370z 2013
Just finished this up on a used 02M and put it in my GLI and the car is locked out of 4th. It doesn't grind at all it just is as if there isn't a slot for 4th. All other gears work perfect. By chance if I put the gears/forks in wrong somewhere would this be the cause or is there something else I can look at. I re-set the linkage a couple times just incase.
Ya I'd say you put something in wrong. Which not sure how you would. It all goes into very specific spots.
Nice 👍
I've watched about 6 videos of people doing this and not one shows how to correctly re install the shift tower. That's by far the hardest part. Anyone here have any tips?
Shift tower just slides right in. Wont be a problem that's why no one show's it
@@JakeRawSon ha ha.. Well I definitely struggled with it. Oh man I'm not sure why but mine just didn't want to go home. I got it in the end.
Did you replace any of the bolts that hold the transmission to the engine? Bentley manual says to replace, but I don't seem to find replacement bolt part numbers.
No, I don't now anyone replacing those bolts
Thanks, this is my first time dropping a transmission/ever doing a clutch job and just want to make sure I don't screw anything up trying to do a clutch replacement job. I'm already planning on doing the rear main seal, and replace the flywheel since I'm dropping the transmission. Thanks for the videos you've made and shared. (No shop, just a small cramped garage/ driveway diy'er)
First comment. Had this issue but paid a shop to fix it haha
how many o-rings does the transfer case take. I dont want to take it off but I took off the transmission to get to the clutch but is kind of hard to try to mounted back up with the xbox on
I have the motor out of the car like you did here
think there was three small o-rings
@@JakeRawSon thanks Jake!! Love your vids man! TY
How to get the speed sensor fitted on polo tsi gear box cays I have done swap tsi to mk1 but I cannot get the speedometer working please help
Mike Skhakhane I’ll ask Jeremy tomorrow I think he knows.
Are you using the stock tach from a mk1 and an 02M? That's going to be tricky then since mk1 use a tach cable for the speed and nothing digital.
Think you have a couple of options:
- Speed signal -> Tach cable convertor.. those things are pretty expensive and from what I've seen kind of loud when operating
- Swap over the speed part of tach with an early audi part (www.maustech.de/preisegolf.html)... could be hard to find and seems pretty fiddly
- Use a 02J
I have used the original wiring for polo tsi, cluster, gearbox locket and I have convert at the topolo tsi break system but I cannot get speedometer working
How much of a pain in da ass was it to pull the transmission out? I've got to do mine and I'm dreading it
I felt the same when I started looking into it. That’s why I pulled the whole engine lol
@@JakeRawSon you think it was easier to just pull the whole engine unstead of just the transmission?
How to get steel shift forks?
order them from online
Where ? Never SAw them here in Portugal ....
