I have schizoaffective disorder (depressive bipolar element) and for me one thing I do is use touch to ground myself. I will play with my fingers or rub my feet on my sheets or something along those lines. I have also found that for me when I focus on studying textures or patterns I feel more grounded. These things can be nice because I have the ability to touch and see things a lot throughout my day wherever I go. Thank you for all your videos. I have been finding them to be very helpful.

I've started to listen to these podcasts and they are really helpful. I'm currently experiencing akathisia and tiredness. It's hard to stay motivated to read when you either feel twitchy or super fatigued. I'm schizoaffective with ptsd and I'm currently on benefits with no therapy yet because the waiting list is so long. Trying to meditate with akathisia is impossible atm but I'm trying to find different ways to ground myself.

      - Just Go Sit outside and put your barefeet on the grass, dirt, Damp sand, even an unpainted, not glossy sidewalk or concrete, even sitting with your feet on rocks or boulders that sit on the ground.. gl.
You can also get a mat and/or Mattress Cover for indoors to increase your time with this Incredible Healing Process.

Oh, I HAAAAAATE akathisia. I've experienced it with Risperidone, Haloperidol, and Olanzapine. Now I'm on Loxapine, which doesn't give me akathisia, but it makes me INCREDIBLY tired. Sometimes, to the point that, no matter how hard I try, I simply cannot stay awake. I hate anything that takes away control of my emotions, sensory perception, perception of reality, or consciousness. Grounding is almost a constant for me when dealing with my schizoaffective disorder.

I loved watching this podcast, thank you both for sharing so honestly.
For me the penny really dropped in my understanding about what ground actually IS when someone explained it as actually feeling physical presence in your body, so for example a technique to do this is to put your awareness on the sensations in your hands or your feet. I think it to me seemed like a really vague term - that's why i love the way Lauren uses the word 'untethered' to describe it.
I do think it also means literally standing with your bare feet on the ground and feeling your feet, and the ground, and as Rob mentioned at first, allowing your electrical organism to connect to the electrical organism of the earth - but generally one's experience of the sensation of that will be about feeling the soles of your feet on the earth, the pressure, the temperature, the texture etc.
I suppose then to me grounding really means feeling a physical connection to and visceral presence in my body. And actually at times THAT can feel really uncomfortable in and of itself ( but that is a whole other discussion).
    Much love and gratitude xxx

I don't know how to solve my problems. So i feel ungrounded every day. There are momentary escapes. But not a permanent solution..Life is a bigger scheme of things like Rob says..there is a destabilising fear haunting me all the time..

I used to feel the way you do, but after decades of therapy and meds, I found meditation for real and it makes me see that instead of catastrophizing and feeling cynical I now feel every day the connection with all people, all the universe (with or without God) and how grateful I needed to be for the simple good things in my life. Humility and radical acceptance. I go through this every day in order to reach that connection, and it is so wonderful.

I have two phyciatrists and two diagnosis's..one says I have schizophrenia, the other says I have schizoaffective bipolar type..when in doubt and I have to go to the hospital I call bipolar symptoms agitation instead of bipolar, and negative symptoms I have in a tendency towards depression..alot of patients go back and forth between the 2 diagnosis.

Big subject for me. Those insecurities that get me unglued are usually NOT the present. "It's okay NOW ... pretty much as it should be," I tell myself.
...And I love endorphins and hate getting wet. I love fresh-air running, and I procrastinate (loathe?) showering.
