This is really well done, thank you for explaining why you do things and the thought process of why you are using specific nodes. It really helps understand how everything works together when creating blueprints!
Well said.. I miss Zak! I've watched every single presentation/tutorial and they are priceless, to date I still rewatch them from time to time especially the blueprint communications which is the best blueprints learning ever
Hey thank you for the tutorial, it was super insightful and clear! My only note would be that it would be great to have access to all of the same assets as you did (I downloaded the Shooter pack, although it seemed you had many custom ones of your own). Otherwise it was awesome, and thank you again!
@@chrismurphy6966 I ended up using whatever the pack had/creating my own assets, and all worked out. Thanks for the reply though (and hope to see more tutorials by you :D) !!
Amazing tutorial, can I address some issues? In programming there’s a matter of code efficiency to minimize workloads, does it matters in blueprint as well? Or can I put as many commands without streamlining it and still won’t have significant effect on the overall performance?
You can get away with a doing quite lot in Blueprint before it becomes an issue but if I was doing something super complex there's a good chance I'd do it in C++ and then call that node in BP to reduce overhead. So, you're right, it matters, but in a 30 minute demo I didn't think this was the right time to go into it.
@Unreal Engine let this person do/redo all your tutorials on your learning platform, it would reduce bloat by 90% and at the same time increase clarity. The amount of information contained in this one tutorial is staggering and if someone feels it is too fast paced they can just replay.
Really enjoyed this video - well done! Also great to hear a fellow Aussie doing similar things that I am. The whispering slightly freaked me out but the content was worth it :)
Incredible!! Amazing use of a simple Blueprint class 😮 I will add that you can use the trigger box to call an event for the blueprint, that way you don’t depend on the level sequence, the building will be moved with the timeline setting the transform in the Z axis 👍👍
There was a new puppy asleep in the room that I didn't want to wake up and I thought the audio was going to be amplified in post. Glad you liked it though!
@@chrismurphy6966 That's cute, congrats on the new pup! But yeah, this video taught me over 9-10 new things, Sequences, Particles, sounds, splines in UE, construction events, damage events, etc...well done!
I love this beginner videos, even though I am working with Unreal since release. Because: I didn't know you could make a button out of a custom event, I had to always work with a construction script and some weird logic. This is gonna save me SOOO much time!
Just completed this, really enjoyed how fast, direct and precise it was. I learned a lot in just a few hours, never touched any tools related blueprint. This was awesome and powerful.
What an amazing tutorial! That´s the kind of video I need, presenting stuff I don´t know but certainly I will use. Please do more videos like this:) Thanks a lot!!
Ive watched hours and hours of tutorials and this is the best tutorial video I have ever seen. Just an amazing collection of information that can actually be followed by just about anyone with a UE project.
Yes this is the issue I'm having. I'm just so new to anything code or even maths related that it boggles my mind how people just seem to know the right nodes to call on or how to plug them together. I find that I vaguely understand what's going on for about five minutes and then I find my mind just loses it.
Nice video, I want to create my own card building deck with rpg elements game but I have no programming skills & was looking at a visual scripting engine. How so ever I can't find proper tutorials on even Blueprint with even a card building deck video to get me started sigh. Do you have any tutorials along that lines. I don't want to focus on shooter or other games when I could be focusing on the card game thanks.
I gotta admit, coming from Nuke and Houdini -- UE looks pretty Mickey Mouse. v5 is definitely an upgrade, glad they ditched the bubbly horizontal bar at the top that was a waste of screen realestate and gave it a cheap iMovie look.
This is a perfect tutorial. I'm a lighting guy and new to UE5. I wasn't sure how but I knew blueprint would be part of my path. Thanks for making it clear as to why... I everyone should see this tut.
I really hope Visual Blueprints become the future, or atleast will get more supported. Before blueprints were a thing I never even wanted to touch coding. Long paragraphs of numbers, letters, brackets and symbols are extremely confusing and a pain to look through for me. It just really throws me off and I quickly stopped once I atleast gave real coding a chance. That's basically the reason why I like doing visual stuff like meshes or textures. And now visual blueprints make code actually understandable for me aswell. I think it's important to give everyone a chance to make their world come alive, and that's why I really hope blueprints will become more widespread and advanced. Not only will it bring more people into the hobby, but also allows people to express themselves like they always wanted to. Having assets sit in a folder for ages isn't fun, and sitting around on ideas that seemed too hard to realise also isn't, which is why I'm happy to have the blueprints!
this might be by far one of the worst ue4 tutorial ever seen - it says for artists but I guess the artists need to be experts in blueprints. what happens at 7:35 ? black screen. what happens with the actor overlap blueprint? it does not work. there is no such blueprint. I am massively disappointed. I guess this video was just a paid off video because it has zero interest put in it.
This is really well done, thank you for explaining why you do things and the thought process of why you are using specific nodes. It really helps understand how everything works together when creating blueprints!
As an art based creator - THANK YOU!! We need more of these simple to digest tutorials! You guys ROCK!!!!!
This is one of the best BP tutorials I've seen!
Chris Murphy & Zak Parrish are hands down amazing educators! We need more of them and this!
Well said.. I miss Zak! I've watched every single presentation/tutorial and they are priceless, to date I still rewatch them from time to time especially the blueprint communications which is the best blueprints learning ever
Here at Metrocalk, Chris Murphy means a lot to us.
This is incredible and exactly the content we needed
Literally was wondering! Just in time!
Epic!

The extra assets were all pulled from the Content Examples project in the Learn tab. You can migrate them over if you'd like them!

That's a title also Microsoft and Unity use

This is a fantastic video thank you so much!
As an artist, I know I am in for a treat when Chris Murphey is doing a tutorial video. It is a great walkthrough, thank you!
Ok, now I'm gonna teleport like mad!

Wonderful video and explanations (along with visual notes), really helpful. More vids like this would be great.

Why tf are you whispering? Were the other artists asleep when you filmed this? LOL
Edit: Keep whispering; this video is AMAZING!

I love this quickdraw creation of simple game objects. It really helps. Thanks Unreal Team.
amazing video
Very well done and great intro to BP, thanks!!

We are back in the good days of lessons
This was so helpful thank you
Let's wait "Art for blueprinters"
Oh perfect, this tutorial provides some valuable information. Thank you!
Thanks, good tips
Here's the thing. How do you know these things are possible when you are just getting started in blueprint?
Yes this is the issue I'm having. I'm just so new to anything code or even maths related that it boggles my mind how people just seem to know the right nodes to call on or how to plug them together. I find that I vaguely understand what's going on for about five minutes and then I find my mind just loses it.
loved the power walk through on quick things for artists! always need more of these!

This is pure gold!
God bless Epic games honestly the fact that I can make a level in the worlds most advanced gaming engine by myself is insane.
Any BP course only for artsts or vfx?
Just tried editor utility and doesn't work. The script menu doesn't show...
one of the best videos explanation on UA-cam. thanks
amazing
very powerful info thanks a lot im unity artist but i like your way inside unreal blueprint
So glad that Tim Minchin has moved into the game tutorial space.
The day the UI icons change, the artists are going to take them seriously .. haha
Unreal Engine 5 has my back :)
I gotta admit, coming from Nuke and Houdini -- UE looks pretty Mickey Mouse. v5 is definitely an upgrade, glad they ditched the bubbly horizontal bar at the top that was a waste of screen realestate and gave it a cheap iMovie look.
awesome
Fantastic video, thanks very much!
Can I find more of this? Would even pay.
Perfect timing 👌
How to add note in video like this ?
Can you do one on water for artists.
Easily the best blueprint thing on the Unreal channel! This is the guy who should do every blueprint-related thing!
🔥💯👍
This is the video where blueprints finally clicked for me. Thank you 🙏

Agreed. Kudos.
This was great, would love some more artist based blueprint videos!!
Very Calm Voice, very useful info
Thanks !
Awesome tutorial. We need more of these.
Bro.. Flash next episode
very good tutoria

can someone tell me where did he taken this lightbulb mesh?
I took it from the Content Examples project in the Learn tab. There's a lot of other great information available in there too!
@@chrismurphy6966 you are right! thank you so much, good sir.
For me making the lightbulb mesh is the easy child’s play, making the light though is pretty tricky for me.
Yours sincerely
please do the first Unreal game with the new Unreal engine
