- The Jam.in front of a crowd of 15000...Paul Weller was not happy with the sound and trashed some equipment onstage ultimately with Weller declaring that '..someone had stitched them up' (Friday August 25th 1978)
back when music was FUCKING real - and we mean it!! ha ha Brilliant!
Weller's better when he's a bit wound up :)
in 1977 the jam changed my life...for the better...! this is the modern world...!!!
How i wished i was born in UK to have withnessed this. Am only 5 years his junior. This band was the best! So intense performance👍🏼Mr. Weller is the most committed songwriter & musician!
The Jam at there best xx
Yeah, gotta 👍
Some can walk and chew gum. Weller can play guitar, sing AND CHEW GUM! I was at this festival, happy days.
5 dislikes??? Beiber fans!!😆😆
You can see it in Wellers face and hear it in the quality of his song writing, those inventive songs don't write themselves - 110% commitment.....without it, in anything, you'll never be nothin'.
100% ...can't get anymore!
This ain't pop baby - this stuff was for real. Every now and then a little dip into nostalgia makes me realise what a privilege it was to have seen these lads perform live several times. Awesome days
I'm envious...I'd have killed for the chance to see them live back in the day...
The Jam live. If only that energy had been properly harnessed, the world's energy needs would have been met for decades.
Exceptional posting. Thanks for making this available.
I was there. The barriers collapsed and I ended up sat on the stage at the end when Pursey was brought on in tears. Great weekend.
Love it when The Jam go mid tempo. Brings out the best in them, like in The Butterfly Collector.
All Mod Cons was my first album ,,,not 1978 but Christmas 1980 ,,,still my favorite Jam album
In the City ❤❤💯
Fuck he's only 19 here... No kiddo, he was always special.
Fk me, a year ago since I last saw this, best band I have ever seen live. Seen The Clash through to Floyd, but this was different...can't explain, you had to witness it.
Sod the Who, The Beatles, Stones etc, The Jam Are the best English band ever.
This is pure gold, they sound so good!
00:00 In The City
02:10 Mr Clean
05:14 'A' Bomb In Wardour Street
I still have Rick's tie from that night!! :-)
+Gary Bartram Cool !
What's the story behind that then??
Hope you didn't have to bum him for the tie pet, either that a cock sandwich
What are you prattling on about, Herman? Living out your own fantasies, perhaps?
Damn that man. My love-hate relationship continues. All three are so brilliant.
love u all my old mates great days
I like how Bruce moves like a South Park character.
And now they've gone and spoiled everything, Now their no longer as thick as thieves 🙄
Beat surrender....
Wow! I was 16 when they played this gig. Trapped in a tiny town in the U.S. I would have killed to have seen them live at this point. Amazing.
I was 17, but totally share the situation and sentiment, Johnny.
I live in England & was 17 when I seen them in Deeside 1979 they were brilliant.
I was 14, in a tiny town, and didn't know about them util the mid 80's.
Billy whizz really helped at the time ;-)
I was there and it was clear Weller was unhappy, but I suspect I wasn't the only kid there who was thrilled to see a mod styled guitarist brutalize his Rickenbacker what ever the cause.. The whole afternoon/evening is a fond memory.
The best band in the fucking world I said it then and still say it now 41 years later nobody can or will get any where near them .
When they broke up I remember they had 13 songs in the UK charts.A record.More than the Beatles. This is just from memory so....
Fantastic! Saw them 3 times and consider myself lucky to have had that priveledge. Their raw energy is brilliantly captured in this footage. Thanks for posting x
Reading Festival used to be IT. Forget Glastonbury, that year they probably still had Poco or someone. If I remember rightly this was the Friday night and they also had Sham 69.
Now it would be someone standing behind a record deck and a couple of girls dancing. All sponsored by an insurance company or something about water.
I think that Weller's using the old bit of driftwood.
My dad was here and he told me about how they trashed the place to get from one stage to the other to see the jam
I saw "From the Jam" play at Reading earlier this month. Foxton recalled that 1978 was the last time he was in Reading and had fond memories.
Powerful stuff.
Awesome Jam footage
You have a goldmine here.
i wuz there, from 78 every year till 85 saw some awesome bands, this year was the first year new wave punky stuff like sham 69 played, just a small riot with all the east end skins, i love rock but the jam were brilliant,
I was in the middle of that ruck, me another squaddie back to back.
You're right!! And, not being disrespectful, but in the close up shots doesn't Weller bear a surprising resemblence to Rodney from Only Fools and Horses??
I was there !!! Last chance to see them before I joined the army !! What a weekend !!!
Brilliant
Superb set taken from Reading Festival 1978 they were top of the bill on the Friday night I was there, Scrumpi Cidar Red Wine and Spliffs! What more does a man need!!😃😄❤💯
All mod cons and no fat or bi-products added . Long live The Jam !
great footage thanks - wonderful to see this !
I was there, not too far from the front. If memory serves me correctly Weller was having problem with the sound, still a great time. I was fortunate to see him a few years ago, I was at the canal festival down near Paddington and he was playing Father, pram pushing 😀 I asked him if I could have a pic taken with him, he obliged without hesitation, great guy.
WHEN MUSIC WAS TRULY GREAT AND READING FESTIVAL WAS NOT A CORPORATE SELL OUT
not like in your day eh Grandad ? I bet you left the front door unlocked when you went to the festival...
Says generation offended x
@@revol148 check out the Thatcherite gloating yet again.
The greatest live band ever .
Saw the Jam in 1978 (?) at Saddleworth Festival. You know, Saddleworth - it's almost as famous as Woodstock (not). The Jam were playing in a big tent - not even a marquee! I was dragged along by my mates.
deeside leisure centre 79 army leave friday nite then off to wigan casino all niter... those were the days speed keeping us going and women... i got an army pension so carnt say what regiment haha
How did you like The Jam's set, considering you were dragged there?
Great footage. Is it me or did they edit the close up shots of Weller from a different gig/night? Watch the mic stand change from a upright (straight) stand to a boom (angled) one.
#1 In the city
#2 Mr. Clean
#3 A bomb on Waldorf street
I was there
the Jam super natural music
hi Muf59 i wos there too what a mess for 3 days patti smith ultravox statu quo and sham with a guy from Gong(steve hillage?) as a guest and jim pursey fall from the stage and 3 days of fight skins/punk/rockers haha big fun
And bikers on security with pick axe handles giving it large... different these days lol x
Fantastic
Great post . 3 piece bands are the best
it's true
The Jam live, so perfectly imperfect! Wellers aggressive vocals and guitar sound, like a hybrid of Townshend and Wilko Johnson, combined with the incredible driving bass from Foxton underpinned by Rick Buckler's percussion. I didn't realise any of that musicality at the time, I just loved the excitement of seeing them create the best raw live music of their generation. A perfectly imperfect generation.
FIRE AND SKILL...AND MORE FIRE!
GET IN!
Unreal
The Jam always played harder, better than the Sex Pistols
THE fact that you would compare them to another band shows you just dint get it...
Apples and oranges. And Weller gave The Pistols credit for giving The Jam the impetus to become what they, er, became.
@@anarchovegan9738 just let him have his own opinion. I'm sure you get that don't you. You sound ridiculous.
good spot watson..
I was there too :)
Plenty of blues taken prior to this, ..and why not ?
The close ups of Weller are from a completely different gig? Weird!
Pure energy!
Killer version of Mister Clean
Yeh. He seems to have more energy going on with the upright mic shots too.
wow play along with this and its a semi tone up
Always wanted to be Weller from age of 12 coolest man on earth
love this,do you have the full concert,id like to buy a copy from you
I was there
